Pausing: My instinct is to go with the Terradragon. Need to enable gonta in case we top deck it, but if we don't i think our only chance of survival is to get a lot of value out of searing waving so we want to keep that. Magnus is also something that feels fine to charge at first glance because we probably want to be dropping hulcus on 3. Side question: Is there a place that is publicly available where info on decks from IDC is compiled? I kinda just follow the YT channel atm but i'd love to spend some breakfast mornings looking over lists and stuff
Pausing and guessing: Pyrofighter! I'll edit the comment after I figure out if I'm right lol Playing Surfer is incorrect because it turns Gonta from our best draw t2 to a dead card, Hulcus is our clearest t3 play, and both Searing Wave and Terradragon could be our highest-impact plays against either other aggressive decks or Control. Pyro isn't likely to come down soon for us on the play and we won't need it to trade unless our opponent plays a t1 attacker in which case we're pretty dead if we don't play a t2 creature anyway and we need to play fire or nature mana this turn to maximize that possibility. On t2 we can play Surfer in mana if we don't draw a t2 creature, and by t3 we should know whether our opponent is on something aggressive or Control, and mana the Wave if we don't need it or Terradragon if we're against something without discard. Of course, if we see Quixotic or Gonta turn 2 we have to mana the Terradragon anyway. EDIT: I was not right! I didn't really think about using Pyrofighter to bait out discard, but even in the one Clamp format we're playing it usually doesn't take much convincing to play it on curve against a deck like this, or play Locomotiver if it's the most impactful play in Control's hand. It would be nice to keep Pyro in case we get a t2 play and then play Hulcus but don't have a follow-up for t4, but I would be worried about leaning too hard into the Terradragon line before we even know if our opponent is Control and losing what I assume is one of two Searing Waves when that could be a similar blowout (especially if we find Bronze-Arm to curve into it early).
Gj that you didn't take the bait with the Surfer charge :D Yeah the decision between Searing Wave and Magnus is really close. I should've added that this situation is in a format where only Bombazar is banned. Obvisously the decision would be much easier when Clamp is at 1 (maybe you don't even play Arquein such a format in the first place). Searing Wave is usually not that great vs Control unless they are on a heavy Yuliana build. This video was made like 10 monts ago and now looking back at it having only Arque as green mana so we need to charge deck when we top deck something like Quixo, Gonta or BAT makes keeping Magnus worse. So arguments can be made for even charing Arque here. - Spaulding
