Braden Davis Ha! I did it because I didn’t want to do home ec. Joke was on me. Loved it of course. We did Malagueña for field shows. So good and fun. Great memories.
I'm pretty sure this is what all trumpet players hope to play when they hear they are gonna be playing a latin piece this is so cool I wanna play it so badly.
We did this with our marching band. And I was pleasantly surprised. It turned out so well. Especially that awesome trombone solo and the trumpet trio. I mean I am kinda bias.... cause my boyfriend is that trombone player... but it is not impossible
Seeing this makes me sad. Our marching band could never play this. I know I can, been practicing for the last couple months and I can finally get those killer notes out, but sadly none of our other Freshmen put in the time not the effort to even try...
I feel the exact same for me and my band. It's really sad to notice how there are very few people who would like to grow as a band but the rest isn't letting them.
This song has so much in it: a haunting opening, with a bit of brassy foreshadowing, a main theme, brilliant trombone and trumpet solos, a superb jazz tangent, and a finale that is maybe the most epic I've ever heard on the marching band field. It's a brilliant piece that tests the mettle of any band brave enough to attempt it.
This song alone made me proud to be a 1st mello. Hardest grade 4 I've ever played, and the most fun too. Don't take me back tho, the marching with this was hella stressful.
This piece is so fun but my jazz band has the middle school easy part. My director did tell me to play up an octave on some of the notes though because I'm a 1st trumpet.I have it easy lol
our band director said we're playing malagueña he never said which malagueña (so either this one or the easier version) i am a mellophone player and if we're playing this version i may just cry on the field because of those high notes /hj
@@leoarevalo6786 apparently there was a third version that was like a grade three so we played that instead, went pretty well though he wrote in the trombone solo for our trombonist
Most of the comments here are negative, I am mostly sure my band can knock this whole thing out really well if we keep going at the pace that we are going at, we will beat all competition this year without a doubt. Some positivity here, have a nice day everyone
wait so this is only a grade classification above ours? i'm currently in middle school and our high school does level 4-6.... that means i can ask my director if we could play this..
Technically speaking, this song isn't that difficult (I mean there is a sextuplet in the mallet part, but other than that it's easy), it's the musicality and the range that catches people. Cool song, regardless.
played this in HS...long time ago....it was fabulous! I was honored to play 2 instruments in this.....first the baritone as a freshman and sophomore and trumpet in my junior and senior years.....there is NO bad part in this music!!!
Being able to play a song is one thing. Being able to play it well is a whole other animal. Highly doubt there is any sort of cohesion or resemblance to this recording in your band. 😂
Very much miss these aggressive crowd pleasers. We played this in 84, my freshman year. We lost our minds when our director played this for us.
"you should do band" they said "its easy and fun" they said.
guilty
Easy? Not always. Fun? Almost always.

+Epic Gaming We hated playing it. But then again, we had a different arrangement.
The year before my freshman year my school did One More Time, Chuck Corea. Also a great Latin piece
If you wanna hear a cool trumpet part you should listen to Paisajes De España. The trumpet solos are amazing
Hardest grade 4 I've ever seen omg. 1 trumpets probably fainted after playing this lol
+Stacey Sings HAHA!!
Stacey Sings for a second I thought you meant you played this in grade 4 - fourth grade
Stacey Sings I played this in sixth grade lolol
Cute kitty11 what part?
Yes I did pass out after playing this-
This was our band's closing song for our halftime show and MPA. Such a good song.
This is how I remember Malaguena as a kid in Jr. High and High School.
We did this with our marching band. And I was pleasantly surprised. It turned out so well. Especially that awesome trombone solo and the trumpet trio. I mean I am kinda bias.... cause my boyfriend is that trombone player...
but it is not impossible
Absolutely love it; clearly based on the Madison Scouts' 1980 rendition of Malaguena
mmm yes. pure brass power
I thought it was 88
@@phoenixalbin2778there’s two times the Madison scouts did malagueña
@@Glizziesz Scouts have done Malaguena 8 times: 1963, 1965, 1978, 1980, 1981, 1988, 1996, and 2012

Manuel Melendez Amen.
You said it.
Manuel Melendez I’m glad there was an easier arrangement that our band was able to get to play yesterday at our last home game
I feel the exact same for me and my band. It's really sad to notice how there are very few people who would like to grow as a band but the rest isn't letting them.
I bet all of your guys’ band have a pit and a decent low brass. Whereas my band has no pit and a crappy low brass. All bands are better than mine

the marimba solo is so beautiful man, well this whole song is beautiful
That 1st trumpet score is quite fun to play with a soprano trombone :p
As a flute player, I can say with confidence that I love the alto sax and horn parts in this!
I think this is the arrangement we are playing this season. My sophomore year is going to be great!!
That alto sax/horn pickup into measure 17 at 0:47, my God.
for my first year play mello im pretty happy of my slef hitting these high notes
Put it at 1.25X speed at 3:19 and you have (a very watered down version of) the 1988 Madison Scouts.
Regal Two that's the best version tho!
True, but this recording is actually from 1983.
1988 was a great year for Maddison
This song alone made me proud to be a 1st mello. Hardest grade 4 I've ever played, and the most fun too. Don't take me back tho, the marching with this was hella stressful.
If I'm a first trumpet on this I think I'd pass out😂
(T_T)7 rip 1st trumpet either became a professional musician, died,or quit after this one
It's not too challenging, but I can't do this after playing something else for a bit.
u sir must see the Madison Scouts 1988
Our first trumpet is still with us.
It’s an amazing piece- y’all should try conducting it. Being drum major is so great ☺️
I wish my band could play this for one of our field shows
We got to do this arrangement in high school We nailed it
It's easy once you start practicing
This was the third movement of my freshman show! :D
is anyone else playing this non stop?
Solo wise, Taboo was harder in terms of range, but this is always the sophisticated one. Mr. Lecuona vs Mrs Lecuona!
Triple toms even in 2015 is crazy.
I'm hella sweating and I'm not even playing lmao that fast section tho
Played this in high school and took 1st place 4A Division in L.A.
This piece is so fun but my jazz band has the middle school easy part. My director did tell me to play up an octave on some of the notes though because I'm a 1st trumpet.I have it easy lol
Every person who marched drum corps before 2000: G BUGLE
I love me some Gs
I remember I had this recording on a car I copied from my band director in high school. This wasn’t the version we played unfortunately.

We have to pay this tomorrow and I I play trumpet 🎺😱
Lol send me first part to lol
I love songs that sounds dire like this
The old drum corps style… from the late 70s… this work is sadly out of print… this was the golden age of marching bands… and the next level… DCI
One of our easier first grade band songs
Most of the comments here are negative, I am mostly sure my band can knock this whole thing out really well if we keep going at the pace that we are going at, we will beat all competition this year without a doubt. Some positivity here, have a nice day everyone
I’d say we did pretty well back when we performed last 😎
That’s good, I played it last year as mello… eek
Awesome Piece!
Heavily Madison Scout inspired eh
This recording was before the scouts
Poor 1st trumpets
Cutty Castillo
Totally. i play 1st trumpet and i'm looking at this and I laughed.
+Brandon Augustine I play 1st trumpet too and I'm still playing in school now
+Cutty Castillo I think you mean lucky 1st trumpets lol, I dont know about that high F though...
+Rudy 18 nor do I lol
+Cutty Castillo I could care less, this is how I remember it.
Stand tune in 2015 my senior year.
Our band director thought about choosing this for marching season but no one knew what it was. Regrets.
This is...insane.
same this is the arrangement we are playing hard corps
Different solo then the Madison scouts! This is a 3 trumpet.
This is a trumpet player's rite of passage
Not every trumpet makes it out of this one alive
idk what u other trumpets are saying, high notes do induce some lightheadedness but like they're very fun
All I hear is '88 Madison Scouts
A far cry from that arrangement.
+Randy Howard I agree but just hearing it made me think of it.
yes, the malaguena to which all malaguenas are compared with
LSU Marching band played this version
you know a trumpet player is happy when they sound like a bee
the melodies are from a typical dance of my city (Málaga, Spain)
this song is actually going to kill me😭
i hate playing melodica sometimes mann
This music is typical of my city (Málaga, Spain) but we dance it and use less instruments and make it slowlier but this version is fine xd

This is where mellophones come to cry
Lemme guess... this is the concert version... and the marching version is the malagueña that’s 1:49 duration.....
HA I wish
They're both marching band versions but the other one is basically straight whole notes compared to this

Roughly 160.
