But I must say that although today is not like that era in terms of the many prolific bands, there are plenty of talented artists if you look for them. Just to name a few that write and sing, Ed Sheeran, Sia (Sia Kate Isobelle Furler) is an amazing Australian singer, songwriter, voice actress and director that has written and sung so many hits for herself and other artist i can't even begin to mention them (look it up), Adele - same story. I grew up 2 blocks from this studio. The people there were really nice, I used to wander in all the time and look at the gold records on the wall (I understand security is a lot tighter around there now). I had a friend who said he ran into Barry Gibb once, said he was "very nice". I never saw anyone famous (that I recognized). But I did see some Aerosmith equipment in the hallway once. One of the engineers gave me a guitar pick as a souvenir.

      I was in that studio too. My friend was the head engineer on many hit albums. I visited him from Philadelphia in 1977, he was my neighbor before he moved to Florida. He took me to the studio and I helped him set some stuff up for a recording session. While I was waiting around I watched in the other studio as Lynyrd Skynyrd recorded their last album before the crash. Very eerie to think back on that scene. in today's world, that explosion would take 3 seconds. Just record it, fly that file into a new track of your DAW at the exact time you want, double it, pitch one down by 6 semitones.... done. Man, they had to hit it at the right time and then wonder how they'd turn that into an explosion. Crazy to remember those days of tape.

    • @TruthSurge
      @TruthSurge 4 ปีที่แล้ว +42

      @Diana Gero yeah, it's still work but since the engineers can work nearly miracles now with all these plugins... the artists don't have to be as good. They can literally fix it in the mix. Remember when cutting a record literally meant cutting a record? They put a mic up in front of the whole band or two mics for stereo and record the band playing the song directly onto a vinyl record as the master. That would get copied in molds. if just ONE band member blew it... whole song had to be redone.

    I was in Criteria Studios. My friend was the head engineer on many hit albums from there. Among many other records, my friend recorded Allman Brothers, Eric Clapton, and went on tour with Bee Gees to record a live album.

It shows three things; one, that you have to have a vision of how that song sounds in your head, two, you have to have the ability to bring that sound out and into the real world, and three, you have to have a gigantic talent for song writing in the first place. Just fabulous to watch!

    On 9.11.01 I was with Dwina Gibb in Kensington, London showing her a house to buy. It was a surreal moment when the news came though. Days later Robin showed up. What a gentleman he was. He was driven in an old beaten up Range Rover by from what I recall Dwina’s brother. Her mum came too. They went onto buy the house and were a pleasure to deal with. Robin was very interested in the history of the building and wanted to know the workings of the original Victorian parts of the household. There was lots of banter between Robin and Dwina and regardless of newspaper gossip they had a lovely chemistry.
