    Thank you for the lavender trick Mark 😉
    To tell you the truth I would love to have a bell tube in my collection more than a double ring.

    • @FriendshipShaving
      @FriendshipShaving  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi George, those lavender moth balls are lethal! I think there is something else in there, as well as the lavender. I also tried placing the leaflet in a bag with bicarbonate of soda and freezing it, for a week. I forgot to mention that but I only had marginal success. Yes, I can see how the bell tube would be very desirable. I have a couple I would like more than the double ring, but that's for another video 😀

    Fantastic Sunday sit down Mark, very informative and interesting, you dispelled a few myths, interesting about the adjustment suggestion, which is of course now used by PAA in their Ascension series razors. Thanks again, have a happy New Year.

    Interesting presentation! I didn't realize that there was, in that day, a service that re-sharpened used razor blades. There were various gadgets that re-sharpened razor blades and some people collect them. At the time, Gillette pretty much had a monopoly on blade production and the prices were relatively expensive. I hope you can find a "two ringer" at a price that won't break your budget. Happy New Year!

    • @FriendshipShaving
      @FriendshipShaving  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, mate. I've seen some of those re-sharpening gadgets; I think there's even one made of glass with uranium in it. Fingers crossed for a Double Ring and a Gillette Popular and a... The rabbit hole is getting deeper 😁

    Great job on the video! I also assumed that when they mentioned "rings" that it was the rings at the base of the handle. Great info!

    Thank you for another interesting and insightful program from an intellectual perspective and pleasant Sunday chat from the social P.O.V. I have not specifically searched for the Double Ring but I think I may have seen a couple included in bulk lots of razors for straight up sale on Ebay. I'll look more closely in the future, of course, if I come across one in good condition most likely pull the trigger.

    • @FriendshipShaving
      @FriendshipShaving  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gosh, that would something, to find a double ring in a lot of razors. I always look, but there are American sellers that won't post to the UK, and I don't get to see their items. I'll bet there are still one or two lurking around second hand, or bric a brac stores.

    You are a wealth of knowledge. Perhaps this should be your specialist subject on "Mastermind". 😀 I have found that baking soda works miraculously well on removing foul odours from refrigerators, bags, or anything else and may be worth trying if the smell returns.

    • @FriendshipShaving
      @FriendshipShaving  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tried baking soda and freezing the leaflet, I forgot to say but it was only marginally successful. I'm just well, read. For some reason, I find these old Gillette's fascinating I think it's because they are still around, still shaving!

    • @FriendshipShaving
      @FriendshipShaving  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I only used it to try and deodorize the paper leaflet/booklet. I'm not sure you'd need to use it to deodorize metal as it doesn't usually smell but you raise a good point Howie. Thanks for making that clear.

    Hi Mark. Thank you for this interesting Sunday sit-down talk. The angle we hold a razor against the face is supposed to be critical yet I have no idea whether my razor is at 30 degrees or not. I wonder how much movement of the handle is required to change that to 45 degrees. This is made all the more difficult when you take into consideration the variable contours of each individual face. I didn't know blades were sent away to be re-sharpened. Amazing to think this would be a cost effective business practice. Hope you enjoyed your Christmas and I wish you all the best for the New Year!

    • @FriendshipShaving
      @FriendshipShaving  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi David. The angle does vary a bit for some razors. The Feather AS-D2 works better at a 45 degrees angle. With 30 degrees, is that from a horizontal handle or from a vertical handle? 😆 At least 45 is in the middle! Thankfully most razors are quite intuitive.

    If the smell comes back Mark, I'd suggest leaving it in a box of bicarb.

    • @FriendshipShaving
      @FriendshipShaving  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll try that. It's a good idea. Apparently, some of the smell, in these old leaflets etc., might be to do with some of the organic compounds in the paper and ink starting to decompose.
