The vocals in this song are so freaking good. Always surprised to learn this song only peaked at #29 on the charts. This song feels like it should have been one of those #1s that just stayed #1 for weeks.

The fact that this isn't one of his HUGE hits considering its timing in his discography is astounding to me. Of the three songs he did with Michael Jackson.. I wonder if THIS would have been more successful than all of them if he'd offered it to him or duetted with him on that. McCartney's vocal on this is JUST the right approach for him.. one of his greats!

----- ARROW THROUGH ME ----> When compiling a list of McCartney's best songs, this one is sadly often overlooked. Indisputable: This guy is a musical genius. The greatest songwriter of the twentieth century, in my opinion (and still going strong). He does it again here in this terrific song creating a truly unique melody with fantastic lyrics, relatable to anyone who has ever been heartbroken; wonderfully woven together in a simply beautiful song. Even when considering his remarkable, outstanding catalogue of music with The Beatles, I think this is one of McCartney's finest songs ever. PAUL: Please, play "Arrow Through Me" live in your concerts again!!! Love it.

To me it's complicated... my own inflationary 2 cents here.. I think he should have TRIED to maintain WINGS and Paul McCartney during the 70s as separate entities. That band identity could have been used to promote his more loudly commercial rocking AOR side.. but his songwriterly love song side REALLY should have been distinctive enough in his output that he was devoting more time and care to it. As much as Back to the Egg had signs of a good effort to it.. it just showed a kind of creative conflict of interest that led to McCartney's decisions and output in the post Wings Over America era. If he hadn't been solely focused on WINGS as his outlet then when Linda's pregnancy changed his plans he could have rolled with that more strategically than he did and GREAT songs like "I'm Carrying" or "Arrow Through Me" might have had more of a life in his songbook!

Commenting on this song as being part of his 2022 THE SINGLES "boxed set" .. he noted this song as one he'd kind of forgotten about but thought it was good. How this song is not performed at every show.. certainly at the beginning of his latter touring post 1989 is astounding to me!

I first heard this song in 1979 and it has been my favorite song ever since. It's one of those things that you try to identify why it has never been surpassed in my mind by any other song, but you can't. For about 20 years after, I used to make calls to radio stations to see if they would play it on the air. It never received the play time it deserved.

We all age don’t deny it .! I will never be able to estimate the hours ,YEARS!!! that Paul has given me strength ,joy and amazement to listen and get me through a day . LOVE THIS, and no not just the music, but the content - th way it was laid across (and I do mean across) the two main L+R Channels, meaning that a LOT of the backing effects are exactly that...
From 0 to 1:10 when you laid HERO - all the way across the back - of both channels.
Meaning that I hear LOUD, what you intended to be a faint echo.
Then, it explodes outwards to encompass all of the different surround channels.
Something that even most "artist" haven't heard, is the harmonics created by the interferences between L+R Channels, working together or against each other.
1:16 there is more brass wind instruments, and even your piano effects - driving FORWARDS from the back area of the sound stage.
Powerful is about the best way to describe that effect - & yes, the back piano sounds are in DIRECT symphony (true to life seen) with the fingers as they hit those white ivory & black ebony keys.
Never heard - in a bog standard commercial 2ch stereo system.

The tune played in my mind for years , and the only way for me to find this song was that I kept hearing the word zero, so I matched the word zero to the name Paul MCCARTNEY and Arrow through Me came up, when I played it , the song instantly re played in my mind after all these years gone by. Wonderful song, and incomparable singer, Paul MCCARTNEY!

Back in 1985 or 86 a small radio station in a tiny town in Texas started an all Beatles/solo Beatle format. Sadly it didn't last very long but I credit them for introducing me to this song. I remember calling and asking what it was and the D J said he always received calls about this song.

I'm just trying to be realistic. If you look at the body of work and influence that McCartney has had as a writer with the Beatles, as a solo artist and songs writen for others, he almost invented the pop song genre.
Music before him sounded very differently.
As for the Beatles, their influence on western culture and the recording industry has not been equaled since.
He consistently makes the top ten all-time songwriters list with Lennon AND as a solo songwriter. Just my personal observation.

On this day in 1979 {September 21st} a video of the Wings' "Arrow Through Me" was aired on the NBC-TV late-night musical variety program, 'The Midnight Special'...
At the time "Arrow Through Me" was at position #39 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, four weeks later it would peak at #29 {for 1 week} and it spent ten weeks on the Top 100...
It also peaked at #29 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Tracks chart and and #27 on the Canadian RPM Singles chart...
Between 1972 and 1985 Wings had twenty five records on the Top 100 chart, fifteen make the Top 10 with six* reaching #1, "My Love" for 4 weeks in 1973, "Band On The Run" for 1 week in 1974, "Listen To What The Man Said" for 1 week in 1975, "Silly Love Songs" for 5 non-consecutive weeks in 1976, "With A Little Luck" for 2 weeks in 1978, and "Coming Up" for 3 weeks in 1980...
James Paul McCartney celebrated his 77th birthday three months ago on June 18th, 2019...
    * They just missed having a seventh #1 record when their "Live and Let Die" peaked at #2 {for 3 weeks}, three different records prevented it from reaching the top spot, "The Morning After" by Maureen McGovern, "Touch Me In The Morning" by Diana Ross, and "Brother Louie" by the Stories...
