For me, it wasn't a loss of creativity. It was a loss of self-expression. This manifested itself when I went to pick out my wedding dress and realized I had absolutely ZERO idea what I liked or even wanted. I knew I didn't want a dress that looked like it had just walked out of the temple, but seeing myself in all of these different dresses absolutely broke me in a way that I did not expect to be broken. In the end, I followed my sister's advice and picked a dress based on that (Ironically, it was at a small bridal shop run by little old Mormon ladies who were REALLY helpful and suportive). I don't regret the choice of dress, but I later realized that this sort of lack of idenitity had permiated a lot of things in my life, not just clothing. Reclaiming that has been really hard, and while there is a creative aspect involved, I would say that the main thing is just discovering the deeper parts of my identity that were never really explored, which does include art and creativity.

I started out singing in a pentacostal church, realized i could sing and ended up getting into punk and goth music. Now i record and compose all my own shit. Its an essential part of who i am. but i used to hate music, although for a diffrent reason. elementry school music class.

I am a Christian, not a Mormon, but emotional ties to music is not a lack of creativity, but it can be a bit of a stall. If I can tell you anything that I think would help it's ask God. Not man, nor woman. Not any religious church leaders, just God and you.

Growing up forced into Christianity robbed me of many things, including my creativity. It is exciting discovering myself more and more the further away I move from it. I think we owe it to ourselves.

Any blanket statement like "religion stole my creativity" must be taken with a grain of salt. The interplay between one's religion and artistic endeavors is a very individualistic experience. Some people might become more creative due to their religion while others feel it restricts their creative expression. There have been many amazing and wonderful works of art and music that were inspired by religious themes throughout history. I thoroughly enjoyed all the beautiful artwork I got to see when I visited Italy recently as well as a concert of Vivaldi's Four Seasons I was able to attend in Venice.

Anything forced creates a trauma that then needs to be healed. Being forced to participate in music in a way you had no control over or say in created a trauma. It didnt steal your creativity so much as it caused a trauma around the subject that you have to heal. Traumas often cause a complete rejection of whatever the trauma is based on. In your case its music. Its probably less the music than the expectations of parents thats behind it. Especially if there was consequences for not being successful or working hard enough. It creates emotional trauma.

Fundamentalism in ANY FORM is soul-killing.
It puts regulations above one's self & WORSE YET above The Lord Almighty🤔☝️
    ANY
    RELIGION.
I am a professional songwriter looking forward to the eventual & potential SUCCESS in writing through multi-genre outlets.
Once I gave up vain pursuits and FUTILE religious pursuits; the God-Given creativity expanded🎶☝️
SURE...I still hear that "same old song & dance" about THIS or THAT; but being aware of what creativity was bestowed upon me by God Almighty is FAR superior to being distracted by shallow pursuits has done MORE for what I have composed & how my personal relationship with Yeshuah/Jesus Christ has grown❤️🙏
Just dump that BITTER "blame god" nonsense & you'll be happier😎

Just so that you know, Mormonism is not Christianity. Mormons don't believe in the trinity, they are polytheists and don't believe that Jesus's death was enough to give salvation. The definition of Christianity is "the religion based on the person and teachings of Jesus Christ" but Jesus taught of the trinity. Most Christians consider non-nicene denominations to be heretical, which Mormonism is.

They do follow Jesus' teachings, but they have different beliefs about which of his teachings were most important. Also the trinity wasn't even taught by Jesus that was a later theological development
