    Yes and one more tip. Don't add salt before fermentation. Salt slows the process of fermentation. Add salt just bfr making. You can also add leftover cooked rice, a handful at the time of grinding. It makes the idlis fluffy.

    A small tip for you Suchi: When you grind idli batter and put salt, use your bare hands and not a spoon to mix it in. Mix it well like beating an egg. It makes better and well fermented batter. The science behind it is that the microbes in your hand act as a starter for fermentation. All South Indian homes and grandmas especially will vouch for this. Keep up the good work on TH-cam and keep spreading positivity in times like these.

      Yes and the warmth too. I put a spoon inside the vessel and then cover it. So the airborne bacteria help in the process of fermentation.

      Hi Suchi....its true that our hand do the magic in getting the right fermentation for the batter.....my mom used to ask me do it since her hands didn't have the right amount of heat🤣.....and urad daal if you get the whole one ie the round one will give you fluffy dough .....looks like too much on idli dosa batter😉take care ...stay blessed .

    One suggestion try next time: instead of soaking rice and urad dal and grinding it.. make batter from rice flour and urad flour. That way you will save your time on grinding. 😃

      It just turns out superb and yummy.
      Rice flour 2 1/2 cup
      Urad flour 1 cup
      Add 3-4 cups water with thick consistency. Keep it for fermentation. It ferments so well . Add in salt and mix it well. You can make dosa,uttapa,idli from the Same batter. I do this only all the time. I don't have a grinder which will grind rice and dal in a smooth paste. So this works really Good.

      @rakhi sharma: I keep it for 18-20hours. Depends on the season. I keep it in a stainless steel bowl covered with stainless steel lid. And keep it in the oven for better warmth with oven light on. 😃

    Hi dear u r getting good tips from all for making idli batter
    I generally put 3:1 ratio n when grinding use half cup cooked rice then makes really v v fluffy idlis
    Yes v mix salt in the batter with hands n in circular motion
    Don’t soak more than three hrs max as Urad dhal doesn’t fluff if u do more
    One tip is soak one hour outside n rest two hrs in fridge this helps the Urad to fluff better
    I take a glass of hot water in the morning lime I avoid due to my sinus
    Yes Ramayan now on dd brings back our childhood memories

    Hey suchi... beautiful maggi date😍😁. U r right maggi kabhi ek bowl mai saath mai nahi khaate jhagada hota hai😂 I remember me n my bro used to bring 5/- wala 2 packets and then make them separately so that each one gets their share properly😂😂 me and son are also very much fond of maggi but my hubby doesn't like it much. So it's good we get more to eat😋😋 . U can make chivda from that poha with peanuts or dry fruits. Make a masala (chilli powder amchur powder sugar powder salt haldi dhaniya powder and jeera powder little) but u have to deep fry the poha and nuts and then add masala and mix...this chivda is a diwali snack. Same way u can make corn flakes chivda. Both are yummy 😋. Tea time snack. My son loves both chivdas.

    Don't over soak the poha, just use soup strainer to wash the poha and strain it with water.

    I miss the fresh pre made batters back In India so here I use rice flour and Urad flour. I live in the lower mainland so I usually get it from fruiticana makes your life so easy. I use urad flour 1cup and rice flour 2 1/2 cup. JUst use the same cup to measure both the flours.     Sharing simple recipe of this thick poha..we call it papad poha
    Thoda poha ko medium flame me sek le.then in some oil add mustard seed, hing,haldi and add roasted poha in it..sprinkle red chilly powder as per the spice level u like and again roast till it gets cripy..after it gets cool sprinkle some sugar(sorry i belong to gujarat and we love sugar everywhere 😄) and roasted papad in it and tadaaa papad poha ready..

    Suchi .. use thick variety of poha (easily available in Indian grocery stores) to make poha ... it will not become mushy when you soak it (if that’s the issue you’re facing)

    I take hyacinth bulbs out of the pot . Do it after the leaves are about to drop off , replant these again in September and October. That way l get lots and lots of flowers and of course fragrance. Same with all other spring bulbs. Those l leave in plant pot do not do well .

    Me too! I don't veggies or anything to Maggi, just use the masala which comes with it, add little cilantro to boiling water! It's yummy as it is!

    Hey suchi,i don't like maggi...n ya i add ginger in tea wen i am just about to switch off the gas,so in that way the flavor of ginger remains intact, before i use to add ginger wen tea use to keep boiling but it doesn't give that strong flavor as it gives wen u add in last....for dosa batter i add salt after the batter is fermented, i have seen sumwer in video that u should add salt once batter is fermented....this is my way of doing dosa batter😊n for poha na how i do is...first i wash poha 2 to 3 times,than i keep poha in water for like 1 to 2 minutes, than remove complete water by using strainer n keep poha in strainer for like 2 to 3 hrs...poha wil not be too hard as most of the times we feel it wil eating n each piece of poha becomes separate wen u actually make it...n still if u feel ur not able to make poha than tell anuj ji...m sure he wil make nice poha👌😘👍

    Such don't soak poha in water before cooking. Just rinse it with water when the masala is ready.
