I can’t be the first. The cereal is sold by weight. The packaging allows a bubble of air to allow cushioning and lessen crushing. In the 1950s - 1960s morning managers, usually moms, saved the plastic packaging to use again for food storage. Plastic food storage bags were not available and when they were they were considered expensive.

There is a reason why they put air in the bags of cereal, chips/crisps, etc., because of changes in altitudes, changes in air pressures, etc., and when transporting them, the bags will explode without air. Just FYI. I drove a semi-truck and went over the Rocky Mountains; some bags of chips did not have enough air, so boxes exploded with chips everywhere when we arrived. Live and learn. lol

I know you hate tea, Barry, but just once, try the tea with a splash of milk and a spoonful of sugar. Stir very well. You might be surprised. Black tea is great, don't get me wrong, but it's usually too bitter for some people to cope with. The milk takes that edge off.
I drink about six cups of various loose leaf teas every day - really good tea has big leaves that are rolled, and the flavour is extraordinarily good. I drink coffee about twice a month. It always smells far better than it tastes - and I include that coffee that has been through a Civet cat, and is the most expensive you can get. Tried it once - smelled wonderful. Tasted - of coffee.

    • @Silentgrace11
      @Silentgrace11 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

Coffee, much like tea, has various different flavor profiles and ingredients they pair well with 😉 As you explore more coffee and what makes it taste “good” for you, you start to figure out the why and how to achieve that flavor you enjoy. I think, until you find a way that you like, it inevitably tastes like leaf juice or bean juice.
That being said, it’s all on taste preference at the end of the day. I’m more of a coffee person than a tea person personally, but honestly both are a fabulous part of the day.

@@Silentgrace11Yes. So many ways to make coffee and tea that I like both. Different blends of tea, especially in loose leaf, to explore. I grew up knowing only black tea with a lot of sugar and ice. But as an adult I discovered a coffee and tea shop that I loved making new flavor discoveries. I don't suppose those shops are too common these days. But I never tire of the nearly infinite flavor combinations of tea. Some can be grown in the garden like mint, chamomile, fever few, raspberry leaves, etc. I grew mint for my late husband because I didn't like mint. But fresh mint tastes better than anything store bought with mint so I became a fan of it in tea.

@@cheshkat6321- What a lovely reply. If I were given the choice of tea or coffee, I'd always go for tea. It refreshes, and is a good thirst quencher, unlike coffee. I generally drink single origin teas, like Darjeeling, Ceylon, Kenya, Assam, Yunnan Green - but I do like Mint tea, Earl Grey, and, possibly my favourite, Chai. Just Chai, not 'Chai tea' as I have heard people ordering - 'Chai' is the Indian word for tea. So if you ask for a 'Chai tea', you are asking for a 'Tea Tea'. 🤔🤔🤔

re cocoa puffs: a) there was minimal head space in it when it was filled, it's settled during shipping. b) cereal boxes come in a few standard sizes, for multiple reasons: ease of supermarket shelving schematics, to fight for shelf space among competition, and to appeal to customers. A smaller box will actually harm their market share as they appear to consumers *before purchase* to have less product than the next cereal over (never mind equal weights that no one read). Even if you got *EVERYONE* to change packing method so that the head space doesn't form, you'll still have denser and more airy cereals that will need larger or smaller boxes for the same weight (think Kix vs Grapenuts vs Corn flakes).
Besides, if you're serious about waste and getting what you paid for and yada yada, go fill your own container from a bulk bin.

That tea pot is adorable. I love it when novelty kitsch serves an actual purpose.
Best test for the salt & pepper pots: Old school pharmacist's balance scale. That's if you're going for the numbers. For real-world use, it's mashed potatoes, buttered up in the pan, use an ice cream scoop to plate up 2 identical portions, each portion gets 5 shakes of salt, 5 of pepper. Grading scale is bland/wondering if the pots were filled | perfectly seasoned | unbearably salty/peppery.
Burger King sells millions of omelet patties on their breakfast sandwiches every day. Sorry, mate.
The one thing I don't like about burger presses is they tend to make the burger too dense, making it a tougher chew. Now, if I had a burger press specifically designed to seal up a stuffed burger, like what they use at Matt's Bar (home of the Juicy Luicy), I'd be a very happy man.
For the crunch cup, that's easy. Outer chamber is strawberry & grape Nerds, inner chamber is mini M&Ms...or possibly Sixlets.

Salt and pepper - Blind test tasting to see what one dispenses the perfect amount on say Avo / corn/ eggs (foods that really do well with salt and pepper), either get some one to prep each food with 1 then 2 then 3 shakes each on a sample for you to test .... or get you family to blind test for you .

If you want to test your shakers, test for fineness of grinding. Like grind coarse, medium, fine. Consistency of size throughout. Test on white paper towel, parchment, or plates. Test how easy it is to refill. And check how easy to clean. Test if it can be operated by one hand. Hope these help. Love your fun gadget testing.

Testing salt and pepper mills: I would want to know how easily they grind, how many turns you have to do to get the amount you want, and whether the ground up bits are the right size with no big bits sneaking out.
You could get some scales which measure very small amounts, such as might be used with chemicals (for, um, chemistry experiments and of course not for anything illegal) and see what weight you get out with five turns.
If you had a suitable fine sieve you could use that to test whether any too big bits come out. Oh and you could test them for leakiness by just shaking them over a piece of paper and seeing what comes out.

There's this cooking channel I follow where the TH-camr always use the Joseph Joseph twist whisk when she cooks. She especially likes to use it when she's making a béchamel or any sauce that needs a roux, because when the whisk is flat, it really helps going round the bottom edge of the pan where some flour can get stuck and leave you with a lumpy sauce, or it can catch and make your sauce have a burnt milk aftertaste. She never mentions having trouble with the whisk, so maybe you were just unlucky?

A problem I have with my cheap pepper mill is if I'm adding some to a sauce, the steam bungs up the bottom bit of the grinder. I end up grinding pepper into a plastic tumbler and pouring it in!
Also, maybe see how it covers meat evenly. Chicken, pork, or turkey is probably best for colour contrast.

    • @cheshkat6321

For me, the slimy texture of eggs is too disgusting to separate by hand. I can't wash my hands fast enough separating eggs with the shells. Just cracking an egg without separating gets yolk/whites on my fingers and is so irritating that I can't crack a bunch of eggs without washing my hands in between.
When I was younger, separating by hand was the only method I was taught. But the feeling of slimy eggs made my skin crawl and I would drop the egg, and not always in a bowl.

    - I have that exact utensil rest (wouldn't have considered it a gadget though). I would definitely recommend it - I've had it for years and it still looks new and it's fine in the dishwasher as well. My only gripe is that I wish that it was slightly bigger.
    - I completely disagree agree with you about soggy cereal! Cereal needs to be crunchy - when I was younger I actually used to eat dry cereal with a glass of milk, because I couldn't stand the sogginess.
    - That "air" is not only not air, but also serves a purpose. It works a bit like bubble wrap (only with the product inside the bubble) to protect the product and the gases also keep it fresh. Without the protective gases, you'd end up with slightly stale crumbs instead of cereal or crisps or whatever.
