7:05 right after Brian's commemoration. The Howdy Doll on your desk moves, Dan. If you ask me, and you didn't, but I'm pretty sure Brian just made an appearance!

I still remember hearing about this on the news and seeing his face when I was at my grandma's. It's 2024. Such a sad story and I'm so glad those ladies are doing well. 💚

"...the power of narcissism." So freaking true! I have dealt with people with this personality type, and as such, I've been hurt and driven to think I'm the crazy one. Being in a home with a parent or partner like this is one of the most lonely and frightening feelings one can experience.

To think about how I was living within 30 blocks of this guy when he kidnapped these young ladies and having a daughter around the same age that went to school with Gina DeJesus was really hard to comprehend if you understood how close all of our houses were built so close together. My husband actually worked with Castro’s daughters ex and had custody of their little girl, we would give him rides to pick his little girl up from daycare. We didn’t realize obviously at that time it was before Amanda, Gina, and Michelle finally escaped we were living in TN that we realized who it was. Apparently Castro’s daughter was as batshit crazy and the reason the father of the little girl had custody of her because Ariel’s daughter slashed the babies throat when she was 6 months old. Very sick and disturbed family all around. Thank God this guy was awarded custody and the baby survived. ❤ thanks for sharing this Dan. This should never be forgotten, never lose hope that some victims survive and break free.

Omg this monster. Completely indefensible, truly evil behavior.
Also, one of the most infuriating things I see all the time with serial killer and serial rapist stories is how unseriously the police and justice system take sexual assault. It’s not a minor crime. It’s a huge crime and a huge indicator of worse crimes to come. The misogyny that has lead to this attitude in our society is absolutely disgusting.
Everything about this story has made me so angry and I am glad Dan Cummins is just as pissed. Thank you for that, sir.

  • @The_Brew_Dog
    @The_Brew_Dog ปีที่แล้ว +3

This was hard just to listen to, I can’t fathom how hard it was to live through.
On a side note my sister survived a very close call abduction. She was walking through a parking lot when a guy came up behind her and tried to carry her off. He said if she screamed he would kill her, in response she screamed and kicked louder and harder then she has ever, and will ever I her life. He shortly after let her go and ran off into the darkness never to be found. I’m so grateful she didn’t go quietly. Could he have killed her right then? Of course, but he didn’t. A lot of things could have happened that didn’t because she refused to die quietly. She credits my mom who told all of us all of our lives if someone tries to grab you don’t go quietly, you scream. Because of this guidance she says she didn’t have a chance to be afraid before she started screaming. She says had she had a chance to think about it she might not have. This is what I teach my daughters to do also… and jiu jitsu.

    Great episode!
Can I also just say I have never watched Timesuck, always listen on Spotify and the Michael McDonald intro is not what I envisioned in my head at all. I always thought he said his bit, did a little clappy dance then finished it by going ‘ahhhh’ while doing spirit fingers. And to be honest, I’m a little sad this vision has now been altered.

First off, being a victim of child abuse is terrible; however, it is NOT an excuse to harm others, period. Second, I don't agree with the "single count of posessing criminal tools." I think it should have been a single count for EACH item he used to harm and/or imprison and torture these young women/ girls.

It's a funny story of how I discovered this episode. I heard a different Timesuck with the "Dead Giveaway" soundbite. I went to check it out, which was where I found this story. Then, THIS Timesuck episode popped up in my feed. The TH-cam algorithm has led me full circle in this case!
All kidding aside, I'll have to get a selfie with Charles Ramsey the next time I'm in Cleveland. That man is truly an American hero and a national treasure.

A bit confused here. I thought the lady across the street was the first to the door and trying to help Amanda and the Ramsey only came over after hearing the commotion... Why is HE hailed as the savior? If the lady across the street hadn't noticed, gone over, and made a ruckus trying to rescue Amanda Ramsey would never have noticed. Just saying...

I learned a lot of details I never knew before about Ariel Castro's life thanks to your podcast. It makes him look even more demented and sadistic.
Although it certainly doesn't excuse his evil acts, I do have a really hard time to believe that he wasn't a victim of some very serious abuse himself when he was young.
If there's something we learn through all these stories is that these guys just don't randomly decide one day they're going to do this. They almost all had shattered childhoods.

I know Dan and many others will have their own anecdotal evidence to disagree, but in my experience police are still this worthless and EXACTLY in the same way.
I called the police for the first time in my life last year. I heard very loud distressed screams of a child across the street that went on for at least 20 minutes. It was a duplex, one half was lived in by 3 adults and 7 children. They would come and go at strange hours, and often a single male would come and go in very nice cars.
I called the police because I was worried about child abuse (I had seen these adults scream at the kids for things like leaning on said nice cars). The police arrived, talked to them for a whole 2 minutes and left. That house then never left their door open afterwards.
Fast forward several months, said house was evicted. We have a good relationship with the neighborhood kids, but one in particular who we nicknamed the Neighborhood Watch. He is very polite and has lots of good info on the events on our street.
He begins telling us the child I heard screaming must be the youngest that lived there. He tried to get to know him but he wouldn't say much. He saw bruises on his arms and legs and thought he was strange.
I worry all I did was doom that child to more pain because the police went "well I don't hear a child screaming right now and the parents said it's ok".
Fuck the police. Next time I'm going to get footage any way I can of abuse before calling these clowns. Absolutely useless for actual crimes.
