Awesome, thank you very much for this. To be fair I'd already gone from using Akuma AND Ryu, to switching out Ryu entirely, but it's always good to get other people thinking the same thing! The fact that Akuma's level 3 hyper just beats so many things out there is a really undervalued fact about him at the moment I feel.
@MrNiebeer thanks and your welcome, also, glad to know it helped. Ryu can always be a good substitute if things aren't working with akuma. For the health and keep away factor, it can atleast change your game plan when needed.
Just a few things about ryu: people never expect his overhead, so overhead xfc works surprisingly well. Also outside of the corner, If you do a donkey kick I'm pretty sure you can wave dash to the other side to follow it up. Also ryu's hurricane kick super is gdlk invulnerability, the same goes with akuma's dp super.
@b7r0n you are correct. Someone else previously mentioned that too but thanks for the input I'm going to keep this noted for my future videos. glad you enjoyed the video as well !
After his Joudan kick ( wall-bounce special) you can instantly X-factor then wave dash as the opponent bounces off the wall to catch them in an extremely damaging combo. It seems like ive done it on all the cast. Anyways good job with the video man.
@shinkounova8485 thanks for that option, I will note that down when I make some more Ryu videos because that is also another x-factor option. but also glad you enjoyed
Just a FYI, Ryu's overhead can become useful if you cancel into X-Factor after it connects. They are never really on Guard for Ryu's overhead, so it has utility.
@Gstainc I did this when I was creating my video, however, it is alot easier to notice things missing than the work put into the video. Slowly ofcourse, when I notice these things, it makes my quality and things I put in my videos better. But you are correct, I could have done that.
@SaishuuKessen well like I said in my video, I was able to do it easily on larger characters, but on others it takes a full dash and strict timing on your low which is not realistic when you can just do a bnb and then use an assist to otg and then do thrust kick. I mean there's always endless possibilities but my goal is to demonstrate what people can learn easily. However I will test this fully on every character. thanks for the comment :)
@XxNeMeS1SxX great man, at any point in your single jump when you do your tatsu, it will always hit. even if you did it at the top, the hitbox on his kick is active until landing, I forgot to mention this in my video. Plus the damage is higher and safe on block means an agro welcoming lol.
@CoolBoyCorporate I'm surpised double hadouken isn't used in high level play either, it seems like a great way to punish assists. If you caught the assist you and the point char you could go for a double hadoken special with akuma, or if you didn't catch the point char you could dhc to a "safe" hyper like devil trigger, mist, shadow etc.
@nitakappa yea it is something I will for sure be updating the next time I show something with ryu because it is something he has potential with. But thanks for the comment regardless, the more info I hear, the better quality I can put out there.
thanks for sharing your hard work done in comparing the 2 but i always felt Akuma was better. i currently use akuma, hulk/haggar, tron/sentinel. do you think using Ryu and Akuma together with a great assist character like Sentinel will be an effective team in the long run?
@radagem Yes and No, If you have ryu first then akuma second with a great assist character last, then this can work. The reason why we haven't seen anyone in a tournament do this yet and Win, is because people adapt and they start flying away like cowards and both ryu and akuma need to be patient. But hadoken with sentinel drones makes chip damage free for you (100 dmg done right). Say your using tron as anchor with ryu then no ones getting in on you unless they are doom/mag/sentinel (beams)
@dbass29 well I don't know if you have commentated on mvc3 but, things go fast, sometimes a lot faster than you expected so because there are words that I need to fit in I sometimes stutter. Like I mentioned in a previous reply, it is easy to notice things which are missing and/or could have been there, but only from putting my work out there, and seeing what people think and notice, do they only get better. lol but thanks for noticing, I will work to improve :P
@thehottyguy23 thanks, a lot of people favor akuma over ryu but it is nice to see them side by side in a video. Funny thing is though, alot of akuma's I see in tournaments and online do not play him anywhere near correct. But the ryu's out there are pretty solid. maybe the bandwagon might change lol sometime down the road.
@zazaodh people may begin resorting to this now on punish because if anyone misses with akuma's beam then you better pray your opponent can't shoot a beam back at you or teleport. Some are comparing him to dormammu where they just burn all their meter in the end with x3 and get it over with but D has a better time doing this because once his fireball is out there, you can't do much to stop it.
@duo317 you are correct, its a shame great supers always get underused when everyone is going for damaging simple combos. I rarely see the double super happen in tournaments but I know its out there and available for people to use. And I did test the thrust kick and you can wave dash in to connect more combos. (I would change my video if i could lol) but its a point i will update in a later video of mine
@shinrahunter thank you man. myself I have been using akuma since x men vs street fighter and he hasn't changed much, however ryu doesn't have the same pattern. The thing I like about ryu in this game is when your doing his combo you actually feel like your hurting your opponent with so much hit stun lol
@SaishuuKessen yea you can use it anywhere on the screen but following up after it is not realistic on anyone. Plus its obvious you can do the super after it but following the thrust kick on everyone can't happen realistically. Have you tested this on everyone?
@nitakappa ofcourse it does. Every move on every character becomes good in x3 however I am one person putting work into my videos. I'm sure there's more that I missed but every time I see that people notice more that could have made it better, I too also take from that and make my videos better.
@Iamjason8 your welcome man, if you got any questions about any of the moves or other properties you can always ask in case I missed something you needed
@TeamShyGuys Umm yea I do wave dash combos full screen all the time in real matchs. =/ I put lots of examples of it in my videos on my page when the game came out.
@duo317 the problem is people are not given the chance to get far to try using different teams. I think it is good because double hadoken even on block is not chip anyone wants to take. Like before if someone know how to play against akuma then he will do the same against ryu so unless you can play both chars well then it may be an uphill battle for you. But i know we will somewhere down the road someone will use both and do well.
@Gstainc lol yea, trust me If there's a way I can update the video by not removing it completely I would update it with what you said and add it as another option
@CoolBoyCorporate Of course moves become stronger and all, but it's interesting when they open more options, like combos and loops you could not do before. The work on your video was very good regardless, just putting info out there
@CoolBoyCorporate srry to make youtube sond like a forum (too lazy to go on forums *cough* srk) but i kinda reformed my team and was just wondering. is it good to go with zero/c. viper/ryu? i just learned zero's advanced BnB and i just cant pass him up now cuz he is too fun. c. viper because i feel like she can build meter for ryu and well ryu as sorta the clutch character =P
@OverKiiiillll I play as those chars for fun. Double hadoken does alot of chip and being hit by it is half a hyper in dmg lol so they can be used as wild cards. I play with both of them for fun because they are great chars.
is it a good idea to have akuma AND ryu on the same team? i used to think it was now i'm starting to doubt them being good on the same team. my main team is zero/dante/wolverine but they get boring. so i wanna make a new team. origanally it was going to be chun li(for battery)/ryu/akuma. but after watching this video idk anymore XD. so it's either my original team or chun/xxxxx/akuma or chun/akuma/xxxxxx
@maniac923 I enjoy watching them. I have been a spiderman player in every vs series. I want to learn him this time around but they really damaged my pad possibilities because his swing is reverse dragon punch and not a reverse hadoken anymore. I love spidey and they have alot of potential
@NikesFan47 lately I have been encountering really good ryus. hes a beast or a wall like people are starting to say about him. If you play D then he is better.
well between akuma and ryu i still choose ryu on all my teams akuma maybe be the best to fight with but i think its the user of the char lol not the char itself
Very, very useful information here and well presented. Keep it up man, I'd love to see more!
Great video. I am going to watch this a million times. Thanks for putting in the work.
another helpful video, keep em coming. Btw very nice ending haha
Probably your best video so far. Thumbs up!
This video was put together really well!
Great video! I was torn between the choice of Ryu/Akuma, since I am pretty good with both of them! Going to stick with Akuma! Thanks alot =)
Great stuff! I'm a Ryu player myself!!!
-WizzyWhipitWonderful,
"Capcom's Lost Prodigy"
I was always a Ryu fan boy but from the second I used him I knew Akuma was my character of choice in MVC3. Great vid though :)
@MrNiebeer thanks and your welcome,
also, glad to know it helped. Ryu can always be a good substitute if things aren't working with akuma. For the health and keep away factor, it can atleast change your game plan when needed.
@wiimoterevcon thanks man, I'll always be working to get good stuff out there. glad to know you enjoy them.

@CoolBoyCorporate
You do a good job as is, I'll always try to offer any input that can benefit.
We all are here to learn and love the game : D
@lush539 thanks, glad you enjoyed, and yes I will do an update to this in the future after I start covering other characters and game mechanics
Just a FYI, Ryu's overhead can become useful if you cancel into X-Factor after it connects.

ya boy coolboy! droppin knowledge
@TeamShyGuys Umm yea I do wave dash combos full screen all the time in real matchs. =/ I put lots of examples of it in my videos on my page when the game came out.
I have a question, why when doing ryu's bnb did you on finish with otg Shinkuu hadouken?
because you made use of akumas hyper in the demonstration.
@Gstainc lol yea, trust me If there's a way I can update the video by not removing it completely I would update it with what you said and add it as another option
@Gstainc I;m sorry why "DIDN'T" you finish with otg Shinkuu hadouken?
Ryu's always been my boy since SF2, I barely use him in SSF4 though just because there are so many Ryu players on there lol.
@CoolBoyCorporate
Of course moves become stronger and all, but it's interesting when they open more options, like combos and loops you could not do before. The work on your video was very good regardless, just putting info out there
@scenario1 it's a famous saying "You say to-may-to, I say "to-mah-to"; that's what he meant by it.
Akuma is the better offensive character and Ryu is the better defensive character.
@scenario1 ah lol, didn't notice the missing comma.
@guamcards thanks for the feedback man, always appreciated
@DietWater Depends. I say it how I want too.
@mondazan lol that would have been a good idea as well. Especially with the over kill lol
@OverKiiiillll I play as those chars for fun. Double hadoken does alot of chip and being hit by it is half a hyper in dmg lol so they can be used as wild cards. I play with both of them for fun because they are great chars.
You can connect a super after a normal throw with Ryu. You just need to Tiger knee it, its not that hard after you do it a few times.
@CoolBoyCorporate yes i enjoyed watching ChrisG's Ryu vs Yipes
@illDiology you are correct
damn i just watched this whole thing and realized its not Umvc3.
any differences with ultimate from vanilla?
Ah thrust kick works vs everyone full screen away. *face palm*
is it a good idea to have akuma AND ryu on the same team? i used to think it was now i'm starting to doubt them being good on the same team. my main team is zero/dante/wolverine but they get boring. so i wanna make a new team. origanally it was going to be chun li(for battery)/ryu/akuma. but after watching this video idk anymore XD. so it's either my original team or chun/xxxxx/akuma or chun/akuma/xxxxxx
You can actually tiger knee your Shinkuu Hadoken to OTG your opponent after his BnB.
@maniac923 I enjoy watching them. I have been a spiderman player in every vs series. I want to learn him this time around but they really damaged my pad possibilities because his swing is reverse dragon punch and not a reverse hadoken anymore. I love spidey and they have alot of potential
would it be a waste to have them both on the same team?
@CoolBoyCorporate
It's all good I was just curious. I thought there was something I wasn't reading into fully
@kieland, his name is Ryu (pronounced like Reeyou not Rīyou)
@ollie11223 haha glad you enjoyed man
@ominousred your welcome
@buddaluver420 hold down punch buttons instead of letting go.
@ninja31 haha, I'll say Reeyou in my next video for him
great ending
4:46 you should have just aimed the hyper straight up
@NikesFan47 lately I have been encountering really good ryus. hes a beast or a wall like people are starting to say about him. If you play D then he is better.
i love seeing great ryu players but akuma is just better and easier to use
Can you pronounce Ryu's name right?
SMART TOC system!!!
@ephue Ryu players doing well in matches are fun to watch. Akumas either kill or get killed in 2 seconds lol
@RichterVonFuchs ....I was jk...I was talking about his missing comma...LOL!
well between akuma and ryu i still choose ryu on all my teams akuma maybe be the best to fight with but i think its the user of the char lol not the char itself
HHAHAHHA Good ending, you should have jumped back and done a Raging Demon would have been cooler.
You're silly for that ending
@NikesFan47 But there both good chars
I think Ryu is better
@genomyoshida ..... I agree, but whats that got to do with a tomato douche?...... ò¿ò
GOUKEN disliked this video.
@gdude87 thanks man, trying to be innovative :P
@genomyoshida haha case closed
So sick of the debate on how to pronounce Ryu. It's like tomato douche. Unless you're speaking actually Japanese both are acceptable.
@ominousred haha old man jealous he can't get steroids in this game
Your arwsum
why do u start speaking sooo fast at times and start stuttering on ur words
