Are we exempt from FICA after 5 years on F-1 with certain conditions ? Please reply.

Hi! Till you are on F-1 you are exempt from paying FICA taxes. The day your visa changes (I only know about H1-B) it ends.

@@nimishUSAas per info available on the internet f-1 holders are treated as resident alien for tax purposes after 5 calendar years of presence in the US. Are you sure about above information?

@ Yes. You are right. I checked too. After 5 years, the status changes to resident alien so we need to pay FICA taxes. Thanks!

@ that too after 5 calendar years so it doesn’t matter if we enter the US mid year that’d still count as 1 whole year unfortunately.
