This man was a born artist. He would never cheat his audience. He would not make many films at the same time. He would give all his concentration in making a scene. He would read and memorise all his scripts and was able to make long shots without cuts and if there was any mistake he would insist to do retakes. He was devoted. He would enter the character of the person he is playing. He spent weeks learning to play the sitar for just a few shots in Kohinoor song madhuban main. He had his fingers cut in many places in that process. All because he liked to portray the reality of the scene. Who else did this? He remains an encyclopaedia of acting.
I have recently watched his film Mughal-e-azam the very first time of his movie....& My God I m impressed so much from his acting & finished watching his 10 movies back to back... Dastaan,Sangdil,Deedar,Mela,Ram aur Shyam etc.

Hence, he purposely did few films so that he can concentrate on the job at hand and give his best. He had also felt that if he did more films, the audience might get bored seeing him too often. If anything is repeated too often, however good or precious it may be, its value and importance slowly diminishes - the law of diminishing marginal utility. Though Dilip had given many sterling performances, I still feel his talent was not fully explored.Some good Director should have done that. It was unfortunate, that Dilip rejected the role of hero in Pyasa directed by Guru Dutt and perhaps had also rejected the role played by Rajendra Kumar in Sangam. Dilip wanted the film to be directed by someone else other than Raj Kapoor, which was not acceptable to RAJ. Either of these two Gurudutt or Raj Kapoor could have brought out the best performance of all time from Dilip. But it was not to be. His performance in film Devdas was the best according to me.

From my side, I would like to include Kohinoor and Leader, since it is in these films he completely broke the brand of Tragedy King, as people used to call him and showed what a versatile actor he is. You can remove any two films from this list and substitute with th the above, it will give this an 360 degree talent of the one and only Dilip Kumar.

We have made this a part of our lives, actually, we can live without this type of thing, but we opened our eyes where all were there and we cannot imagine living without it as today's children know the internet, but 30 years ago it was not known for the common person. Acting is not that difficult as we think, you have to have a passion for it though some people fit in this field as they made for it, and Dilip Ji was that person, one in millions.

His role in Shakti was dull however, The film only achieved a modest success, which was surprising considering that it had very strongly etched roles for all major characters.
