  • On this episode of the Boiling Point, Ritchie and Steven discuss the different formulas that are used when working with steam boilers. There is more to the business than just wrenches and tools. Formulas play a large part of our everyday work in the industry.
Each day, we receive calls from around the country about our rental boilers. These formulas make it possible to size our rental pieces to match the customer's needs.
Watch the video to listen to Ritchie and Steven walk step-by-step through the formulas.

    Formulas mentioned in this video:
    Pounds Per Hour
    Boiler Horsepower
    Convert Steam to Hot Water
    Key terms in this video:
    Horsepower
    Pounds Per Hour
    Boiler Horsepower Formula
    Pounds Per Hour Formula
    BPU
    Boiler
Convert Steam to hot water formula
    Heat exchanger
    Steam Load

    Hi Engineer❗️
How much heating surface area of a vertical water tube 3 pass boiler will be enough for my 200KW forced draft gas fired burner?
    •Tube diameter = 2.25"

VERY helpful! I'm curious though, I was operating a coal fired 50hp single pass.locomotive style fire tube boiler. I need 150# steam to feed a 2" line intermittently. With water tube package boilers being more efficient than fire tube, does that alter the BHP that I need? Would the size of boiler that I need run off of 3ph or single phase? Since I am not using a DA tank for my current boiler, how much more space consideration am I looking at for a DA tank, feedwater pump, etc. as opposed to what is needed now? Obviously, I will need to convert to gas or oil (prefer gas), what would my gas supply demands be?

    • @wareboilers
      @wareboilers  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Whew! Here are the answers.
The efficiency difference between watertube and firetube are minimal so the boiler size will not change so if you have a 50hp now then that is what you need to stick with unless you are sure of your steam load.
A 50hp boiler can be designed to run off of 3ph or 1ph. With this size boiler either is sufficient.
      The DA tank/feedwater tank will have a footprint of approximately 24" W x 48" L x 72" T.
For a 50hp boiler you would need 1psi of natural gas at a maximum flow rate of 2,000 SCFH.
Let us know if you need any further assistance and Thanks for your comment!

So if a customer explains that the continium transfunctioner is over heating which causes the flux compositor to expand rapidly. What could we use as far as formulas to find a solution?🤔

Dude... Where's my car? 😂 Since these formulas are grounded in reality it might be hard to use them on anything else.. Thanks for watching!

Just introduce a dab of Phozschmoo-Triborosnot through the stetsor valve intake. That'll calm things right down
for ya. (Just be sure to flip the goddamitron to low first). No formula required, & works every time!

I was so confused by that 34.5 number. I kept calculating that 1 horsepower (550 lbs elevated 1 foot per second at g = 32.17 ft/s^2 or 745.7 watts) could only evaporate 2.62 lbs of water an hour and I couldn't figure out where I went wrong. Then eventually I figured out that a boiler horse power is not at all the same as a mechanical horsepower. That is so confusing, but I'm glad I understand it now even though it took hours of needless head banging.
