Chadwin Smith I’d honestly say you could build a similar design with pretty much I any single handed gimbal, chances are most of us viewers have a brand of gimbal at home :)
You've cured my Edeldrone envy. I just watched a demo of the jibONE an hour before this vid of yours. This is an imaginative use of things at hand. I don't get enough work to justify all the expensive new toys. In a pinch I can use my 5 foot monopod as an extension to the 3 axis gimbal. The gimbal didn't come with an extension tube. I won't clamp it in the tripod all the way to the tip because the monopod tubes are too thin to trust, but it could probably help with counterbalance out the back. Maybe 3 / 3.5 feet of gimbal extension. I'm not using a full weight DSLR anyway so weight is well under a kilogram.
Charliebrm1 yes!! I’m glad to hear you’re not letting “Gear Acquisition Syndrome” get to you this time. I buy way to much gear when often times I don’t need it....haha! You can definitely do this exact setup with a monopod on the end instead! But yeah, I just wouldn’t personally fully extend it. Sounds like you’ve got it figured out nicely!
I just subscribed to this channel cause this dude is a true creative artist. The details and explanation is phenomenal to this DIY technique. Definitely saved thousands of dollars for ppl like me with budget. Keep up the awesome work !!
Mohammad Fahim hey thanks so much for the sub and support man!! 👍🏻 welcome to the channel. Hopefully you find many more tips and tricks to help you save money and improve your skills.
The jib is actually for people who film them self and dont have a cameraguy but want those dynamic cameramovement... But i agree with the rest. I dont like using apps and like to make the movement on my own. In my case it makes sense to get more movement to the video instead of left to right and up and down. For product shots it's just a nerdy expensive thing.
Yeah for sure, the JibOne is perfect for one camera man who wants dynamic movements but can't operate the slider/jib while filming something else. Yeah, I personally prefer manual Everything when possible!
Sure it isn’t a JibOne and not motorised but it’s a great standard jib solution. I do this with a monopod - not for huge reach like peeps are suggesting but to extend the back distance and place a 2.5kg (5ish pound) counterweight for balance. Works well for lots of shots. I’ve got a large jib but like so much equipment it’s not always convenient or gets left behind because of size and weight - awesome hack man. Well done.
Thanks man, appreciate the support! Yeah, there are so many different tools you can use, each on for a different job just depending on what you need and what might be most convenient. That's cool you have a jib! I wanna get my own someday.
Scope & Fields yes! I did try this but my clamps weren’t strong enough to hold the camera out that far, so I gotta get a stronger way to hold the monopod
Love the hustle. But the idea of something like a jib one with the head and swivel is to be able to get the same shot over and over again. But hats off to you for a really neat idea.
ok its the same but you pay a edelkrone jib just for the app and the robotic feel you have a tiny camera robot that it repeats mooves automately it not needs you behind the camera so you can operate the A camera (in an interview for example)
Thanks for the great video! I actually use the Sly Pod from Moza and it can screw on to the tripod and work exactly like that! And other great features is because it mount on the middle part of it, so the weight distribution isn't a problem even if I extend the sly pod out. Oh, and the sly pod has motorize extension, so the movement is like butter smooth.
Dude thank you so much for trying this out, I have everything I need to do the same thing, and I never thought of combining them... i much prefer this style then the thousand-dollar ones.
Chadwin Smith It worked perfectly with my Weebill S and my iPhone attached to it. With the LUMIX S1H ist might be too heavy. But anyway, you inspired me to test something more: to mount my S1H and the gimbal on my monopod and film from over the windscreen of a convertible - wow, that rocks. Will post some of the footage soon. Again, thanks for your great inspiration with the 2 clamps to smoothen the poor man‘s jib.
I have planned, after the temperature outside warms up, to put a gimbal at the end of a painter's pole (using a 1/4-20 adapter I have from B&H) to do basically the same thing. Like your idea of the tripod, may add that to the mix.
Michael Andreas it must be cold where you’re at. I’m already wearing short sleeves most day’s in Arizona haha! 🌵 Using a long painters pole would definitely work! I’d just test it out first to make sure it all holds up before putting your expensive cam on the end.
This is a genius build. The possibilities are even greater when you take advantage of FORCE MOBILE on the ronins- more dynamic moves with the help of an AC
Thanks for this video. I've been trying to figure out how to turn my gimbal into a jib crane. Now I don't have to use tape to combine the tripod and the gimbal. Even though I do have the money. I don't have the time to wait for the delivery but I purchased those clamps on Amazon with 2 day delivery. Just in time before my project is due. Maybe later I'll buy the crane because it has those automatic features but this will do for the meantime.
nice!! hopefully you were able to make your own little jib rig without any issues! it's definitely a much cheaper route than buying the JibONE, but not as robust haha
That brought a smile to my face, because after I saw the Edelkrone jib, I tried exactly the same thing. In my case I attached my AK2000 to a Sirui monopod and my BMPCC4K to the gimbal. I also have a Benro S8 fluid head on a Leofoto tripod. The wide base of the monopod head gave the base of the gimbal a pretty good support, even with the 1/4" thread, and it's possible to add weights to the end of the monopod if necessary. I was very surprised at how smoothly the jib worked. It's something that's not cumbersome to take anywhere and probably faster to assemble than the Edelkrone. And, like you, I'm not a fan of apps. And if you do want to get technical, the Moza Slypod could be used with a gimbal and you'd have the ability to extend and all the rest.
Australian Image Australian Image that’s crazy!! I guess great minds really do think alike my friend. Sounds like we both built the same rig almost. I need to try my 6k and monopod on it now!! 🧐👻
I don't think you'll have any problems with the P6K. Mine balances with a SmallRig cage, Samsung SSD and holder, Sony NP-F battery plate (it has a Weipu power connector) with 570 battery and lens (600g). Still trying to figure out balancing with my new mic. Just to be certain the gimbal secured properly to the monopod, I first removed the battery cover, screwed that onto the monopod head and then reattached the gimbal. Now that we look like having some decent weather for a while, I'm going to test it out with some outdoor shots.
the best ideas are the ones right under our noses. Great job. bravo! Also, it would be safer to use O-clamps, instead of C clamps. So you wouldn't have to tighten the C clamps so hard to avoid vertical loosening. Does that make sense?
Miguel Molina yeah, these clamps aren’t nearly as sturdy and secure as some o clamps that would fully wrap around it. I need to find some good ones for this setup.
That is ingenious. Cool video. You could also use a monopod (if you have one), instead of the tube extension on the gimbal, which could give you an even longer jib arm
Phillip R Peck thanks man! 🤛🏻 yeah, you could definitely add a monopod to this setup. I’ve done something similar in the past, but need to try it on my tripod now. th-cam.com/video/QusqtDdzWKE/w-d-xo.html
Been using this myself for months! I'm wondering if there is a way to clamp the rod with something over the top of it- with my BMPCC6k crane 2 rig the weight is sort of an issue. I wonder about a beefier extension rod setup or something. Love your idea! Thank you for it, just reaching out.
Drew Fleming that’s awesome dude, glad you’ve been good use out of your setup. I do think there’s gotta be a better clamp setup out there that’s more secure, but I haven’t done one yet. I think of you get one of the mounting rings that go on your gimbal, you could then screen that directly into the QR plate
Actually, this does make more sense when you add the monitor... I have the Nikon Z6 Filmmaker’s Kit and I just upgraded so I can shoot ProRes RAW over HDMI to the Ninja V I’m gonna build it!
George Rady that’s awesome! Definitely build it out and give it a try. I really wanna try out ProRes RAW, I just wanna know how good and flexible it is.
This idea is so cool, mate ! I have to put it into live. There is actualy option to program your gimbal moves ! In FeiyuTech you go to auto rotation manu where you can set up starting and ending point. Of course you have to correlate your tripod/jib moves with gimbal, but with little practice I think you could get realy good results !
I just thought where do I get a thousand dollars in this weekend to buy jibone, but after I got it, you give me an idea... cancel jibone, buy two clamps, hack my light stand, done! ...and 1K dollar for hire a model and her car, do something instagramable
marcianody mac 😂😂😂 that will definitely work. Nothing better than saving 1,000 bucks. Or getting a really great model for the money also works. 🤷🏼♂️ I get sucked into buying new gear all too often.
i use to rock that kind of a setup till i switched to the osmo pockets ^^ tap to track and u just handle the up and downs yes its a full on cam setup BUT its lightweight and the monitor is my phone :> tomorrow im going to try it with my benro moveup4 and the new osmo 3 ^^ and i do have motion stuff and i did end up making a jibone but nothing beats the lightness of an osmo
what makes the Edelkrone JibONE what it is is it's ability to move via wireless access. its a motorized Jib, not just a gimbal on a tripod that requires physical movement.
@@chadwin Yes it is and depending on which monopod you use it can get as small as the one you made and extent almost 4 times :) I used the SIRUI MONOPOD P-426S and clapped it to the last extension rod and used the feet of it to mount two small dumbells (max of 1,25KG)
Very clever Chad, a man after my own heart. Might make one of my own but will get some aluminium tube to make the jib and fit a 3/8 boss into it. Add a small weight to the end for balance.
Alex Lancashire Photography heck yeah, great minds think alike! Using an aluminum tube would def work for this setup. Best of luck with your own setup.
@@chadwin You can buy an aluminium (I am from the UK) boss with a 1/4" screw from Amazon. If you can get a piece of tube from you DIY or metal dealer that will accept this boss, you can drill and tap 3 holes through the tube and into the boss to hod it with 3 screws. A clamp for the other end to hold a piece of metal for a counter weight and you can make your jib as long as practical.
It would be better to have a proper SmallRig Clamp for the Gimbal and then mount the plate directly to the 501PL plate. It would be better than those super clamps.
Definitely build it! Thanks for the video. At the end, I was thinking more about how it physically looks making those small of jib-type movements. I feel as though they don't look all that dynamic (being it has a short radius of moment) or stabilized (which is adjustable). Of course, that's the point you're making. This isn't perfect and it could always be made better.
The feiyutech Extension Tube is not strong enough for the weight. This tube has only a 1/4" screw. I would not dare to mount more than an action cam on it.Think about what forces are there when the camera weighs 1.5 kg ore more.
christian haingartner well, it may not seem strong enough, but talking from experience I’ve now done it and it works fine! Also I’ve put my gimbal at the end of a long monopod with just the 1/4 20 thread and it’s always held up fine. My cam and lens are light tho for sure
Not sure is the gimbal - alone - can’t get done what you wanna get done... I’m in the same boat, I blew $1.8K on the Rhino - and it’s Great for lateral sliding - but I too need verticals and I don’t wanna blow another $2K and I’m thinking I can get that with my Moza Air 2 since it is the easiest move... up-and-down
@@chadwin I am hesitating over the safety of the gimbal (weebill lab) I would connect it to my Monopod as the jib arm then base plate of tripod. Time to take a risk🤦♂️😂
Michael Studio Films yeah. It’s nerve racking at first, but as long as your monopod and tripod are pretty sturdy you should be good. Just test it over your couch or bed first to be sure!!
Thank You, Chadwin!!! Great Idea. Not as automatic as JibOne, but at least, consumers can save money to buy other things. You just cured my pursuit for JibOne!!! He he
Aree Traveller yeah, it’s definitely fully manual to use, no bells or whistles but it gets the job done in a pinch. Thanks for watching, glad you saved your money at least this once!
@@chadwin I was getting a little obsessed about owning the JibOne, but after watching your video, I decided to forego it for the time being. Might as well be creative about it using the tools I already owned. Besides, I don't think I need to use preprogrammed camera moves for repeated shooting. Thank you again, Chadwin.
Chad Dude! Thats dope! The program option is prette cool on the edelkrone and other motrized sliders and jib, if you need to do the same motion again and again but this is cool!
Thanks! Yeah, I haven't used the edelkrone sliders yet, but I bet they're nice for repeating motions and getting super precise. I have used a handful of other motorized sliders though, and really only found that I liked using them for motion time-lapses. Otherwise, I still do my camera movements manually.
dude i was searching for something like this for wedding videography. now I am very flexible with a tripod which is rolling because of the rollerblades I installed under may tripod and your version of jib an dude it is awesome!!!! THUMBS UP!!! I WOULD SEE MORE OF THESE VIDEOS 👍🏼
Mehmet Efe that sounds like a pretty epic and creative setup. Never seen rollerblade wheels in the bottom of a tripod. Pretty cool. Good luck with your next wedding shoot!
Ricky Cheung yeah. The carbon fiber held up, but it definitely seemed to have some give to it as I really clamped down and got it tight. Something metal and more rigid might be better! Thanks for watching man!
Danny Cymbal hey thanks, it was a lot of fun to just throw together! I actually bought most of the parts for the pegboard from IKEA. If you just google IKEA pegboard, it should come up
That monopod you are using is carbon fiber. If you clamp on that the way you are it will destroy it. It’s not built to take pressure in that direction.
Isn't the whole point of the JibOne that its does the Jib aspect motion controlled? What you have here is really just a gimbal on a manual jib. Its a cool way to get the job done manually, don't get me wrong, but its not the same thing.
You're 💯 correct! This just a manual jib, only meant to get the job done at no additional cost if you already have the parts. It's by no means a replacement for the jibOne which has many more automatic and precise features.
Haha! Too cool man. I have a couple monopods and a handheld boom pole that would make for a REALLY long jib! Might have to grab some of those clamps to try this out! If I steal your idea I’ll at least give you a shout out 😃
What do you think - Build it OR Buy it?? Is a Jib something every filmmaker really needs or is it just a total flex on your video buddies?
Build it!! But try it with a monopod
Albert Therkelsen awesome!! Yeah, I wanna try this setup with my monopod next and see if it holds up.
Chadwin Smith yeah it would be nice with a even longer arm!!
Build it! It's like if you could stabilize a monopod for longer distance angled shots. Bonus points if people customize profiles on their gimbals to operate in different methods :-)

Street Drummer 😂 thank you! But not a genius...just trying to make stuff in whatever way I can.
@@chadwin Well anyways man genius build. Just ordered some parts to make ome myself. Keep it up bro!
Street Drummer awesome man, good luck on your jib build!
This is absolutely brilliant. I'll be trying this exact setup out on my next shoot. Thank you, sir!
Awesome! I hope it works out well for your next shoot!!
i use to rock that kind of a setup till i switched to the osmo pockets ^^ tap to track and u just handle the up and downs yes its a full on cam setup BUT its lightweight and the monitor is my phone :> tomorrow im going to try it with my benro moveup4 and the new osmo 3 ^^ and i do have motion stuff and i did end up making a jibone but nothing beats the lightness of an osmo
Nice, sounds like you have a great setup! I just got my first ever Osmo pocket and I've been really impressed with it so far!
@@chadwin very VERY good setup recommend for sure
Great tutorial! Thanks a lot.😊
what makes the Edelkrone JibONE what it is is it's ability to move via wireless access. its a motorized Jib, not just a gimbal on a tripod that requires physical movement.
Pierson's Photography very true. The jobONE has many more abilities and features. Mine is just a raw version of a jib to get the job done.
@@chadwin yeah it a 5Head way of making a DIY Jib, it's just not a JibONE from Edelkrone yknow?
I once kinda did it using a monopod as the extention so I was able to extent it further from the tripod and kinda make it into a crane.
Søren Jensen that’s legit! Having it longer like that would be perfect for bigger movements
This is super cool DIY! Thx 4 showing, will build one :D
Legend. Saved my day bro. 🤘🏼will try and use this idea for my next project. 🤘🏼🤘🏼😎
It would be better to have a proper SmallRig Clamp for the Gimbal and then mount the plate directly to the 501PL plate. It would be better than those super clamps.
that's a great idea! I haven't been able to find a smallrig clamp for my feiyutech yet, but I do have them for the Ronin S and Crane V2.
Shoot at a high frame rate and this would be smooth as butter. Brilliant!
Daniel Brawner yes!!! I was shooting all at 24p in my test shots. So I bet 60 or 120 would look amazing! Especially for product shots
But it’s doesn’t repeat the same movements … or lock on and attack the positions the same.
very true, it's not nearly as capable. but if you already own most of these parts, you can at least get a similar look manually.
Great alternative
this is good man - great out of the box thinking.
6AM Films - Video Stories for Small Business thanks man! I got bored and figured I’d try to throw something together. 😂
GENIUS!
Mario Bonilla haha! Yeah, it gets the job done. ✔️
Thanks for sharing this video
this is a great idea :) have the same gimbal, will give it a go ; ) cheers mate!
great job!!!
Thanks! 😎
Awesome vid! I had just done this same thing!!
That's epic. Great minds think alike, time and time again! 🤓
Chadwin Smith haha I guess so!! Thanks 😊
Nice job! I like your thinking, and guess I will be "borrowing" your idea. Thanks for sharing.
You are so creative 😂
Nice work
Thanks!! 🤠
I have the items to build it, so I will build. Thanks for the idea
@@chadwin I try but I will think of other fixings between Gimbal and extension. I'm afraid for my gamble and my camera.
Nice, very nice! Guess what I'll be doing this week ahead!
that gimbal clamp thingy you made thanks for that i needed a way to mount a gimbal like that
EasttSideCustomZ z hey no problem! Glad I could help you solve that problem. Good luck on your rig!
Not sure is the gimbal - alone - can’t get done what you wanna get done... I’m in the same boat, I blew $1.8K on the Rhino - and it’s Great for lateral sliding - but I too need verticals and I don’t wanna blow another $2K and I’m thinking I can get that with my Moza Air 2 since it is the easiest move... up-and-down
nice job dude
Andhi Santoz thanks man!!
Dam it, Now I HAVE to try this!!!
Michael Studio Films 😂😂 DO IT! It’s pretty quick and easy to at least test out.
@@chadwin I am hesitating over the safety of the gimbal (weebill lab)
I would connect it to my Monopod as the jib arm then base plate of tripod.
Time to take a risk🤦♂️😂
Michael Studio Films yeah. It’s nerve racking at first, but as long as your monopod and tripod are pretty sturdy you should be good. Just test it over your couch or bed first to be sure!!
@@chadwin I tried it out!
Monopod and Tripod are good yet...
My tripod head isn't strong enough to hold the weight 😥 lol
Michael Studio Films dang it! Yeah, it’s a pretty heavy setup so it needs a really sturdy tripod head too. Bummer!
How much is it? Where you got it? Thank you
Great DIY and video man! Keep them coming!
Bad95killer hey thank you very much!! 🤛🏻
Otherwise, I still do my camera movements manually.
what if you used an even longer pole?
dude i was searching for something like this for wedding videography. now I am very flexible with a tripod which is rolling because of the rollerblades I installed under may tripod and your version of jib an dude it is awesome!!!!
Cool setup! I've just thought about making something like this, and found your video! Great thanks!
2:40 What's the music used during the montage?
Bro, mount that to a slider on the tripod so you can dolly in as well
Man doesn't have a thousand dollars but these equipments are far more than that 😂 Bless up bro ❤
Man… very thoughtful! I’m a firm believer of using what you have! 💯
edlekrone: delete this
😆😆 exactly
Carbon fiber extension arm worries be a bit but amazing idea, video and enthusiasm on the build. Keep yo the great content man.
Ricky Cheung yeah. The carbon fiber held up, but it definitely seemed to have some give to it as I really clamped down and got it tight. Something metal and more rigid might be better! Thanks for watching man!
Bro... You got yourself a new subscriber, im about to make my way through your back catalog of videos. Nice work man 👍
Variant Vision hey thanks so much man! Welcome to the channel. I hope you find some helpful stuff.
Love that you tried this!! Thanks so much for sharing!
Also, do you have a link to that pegboard/organizer on your wall??
Danny Cymbal hey thanks, it was a lot of fun to just throw together!
I actually bought most of the parts for the pegboard from IKEA. If you just google IKEA pegboard, it should come up
Chadwin Smith thanks so much!
That monopod you are using is carbon fiber. If you clamp on that the way you are it will destroy it. It’s not built to take pressure in that direction.
Dan Montenegro true! The carbon fiber was creaking a lot when I started clamping down on it. I would use that monopod again in the future, too risky
If I steal your idea I’ll at least give you a shout out 😃
Do you think that it is worth this exorbitant price on its great advantages, or do you think that the company somewhat exaggerated the price?
i would never pay the price for it. some gear is way overpriced for what it actually does.
