When a president can bring hope and look for the greater good of the country in which he was elected ! That in itself gives the public hope as well ! I met J FK as a kid and believe me his insprations I admired then and still do today ! For what he told me told me at the time , You have dreams young man , but now make them your realities ! Only if we the people could back too that way of thinking ! Could or might make a better place in our time on earth . . Standup for who we are despite our enemies . As a millennial in my late 20s, a part of me envies the boomers for being able to live through so many iconic social, political, and economic events. The birth of rock n roll and its worldwide conquest in the 60s and 70s of the music charts with the Beatles/Led Zeppelin; seeing the Cold War end as peaceful as it could have with fall of Berlin Wall and reunification; rise of Reagan; rise of Kennedy. You guys got a very compelling story in world history; desegregation, expanding voting laws, relaxation of stringent sexual norms via the sexual revolution; the decriminalization of public expressions of homosexual affection; etc. Of course “my time” now is compelling but I’m a way different way via the division of the liberals and conservatives and a war in Ukraine with accompanying double digit inflation. I love modern technology, but I’d give it all up to be born in 55 or 1960 to see all the changes you went through first hand. Boomers may be old in some young peoples eyes, but modern America is founded on your sacrifice and critical thinking to question the governements authority. Everything from computers, to self improvement with lifting weights, to promulgating woman’s rights to work (if they want to) all started with the boomers.

So True, I feel i have lived through so much, remembering the assassination as a little girl was devastating and to live through the divide of desegregation was most gut wrenching, the abuse the blacks endured was terrifying, the hangings, dragging, beatings and killings and then the President and the killings continued. I questioned what was it all about.... just simply giving rites to your fellow man. It seems it just continues.
I was born in 1962, so I was only 18 months old when the assassination happened. I was pretty young when I found a book my parents had gotten to his memory after his death. Any time I had an opportunity, I would get that book out and and study it. I don't know why, but I was drawn to him. I still am.

My dad was in elementary school when this happened, and everyone received a prayer card for JFK, as he was the first Catholic president and it was a Catholic school. He still has it somewhere.
There was pre-JFK and post-JFK, then there was pre-9/11 and post-9/11. The world would be so different now (maybe no 9/11, maybe no crazy conspiracy theories about tragedies, maybe we would still have faith in and trust our government) if John Fitzgerald Kennedy had not been killed.
I was in first grade at San Fernando Elementary School in San Fernando, California on November 22,1963.
President Kennedy's color portrait was displayed on the walls of the school rooms.
As a boy, I was mesmerized by our Beloved President John F. Kennedy.
We were so proud of him.
I'm 65 years old now and the shocking memory of his assassination is seared in my mind and will be so until I pass on.

I was in middle school and it did something to me about such a cruel thing to happen. Then MLK and Bobby. I was born in the 70s well after this part of our history. As a child my family went to Washington DC several times until we saw everything that's there, mainly the museums. I don't remember much of our trips there however one of the things that stuck with me I can't seem to forget is visiting Kennedy's grave. Even in death he has an amazing presence.
I was 8 years old and the Nuns in the catholic grade school, who idolized Kennedy because he was catholic, ushered us into Church while we were led in prayer. We were all sent home where I received the terrible news that he had died from his gunshot injuries. He was our last 'real' president, his own man doing what was best for everyone in the USA no matter the consequences.
That eternal flame leaves an indelible impression. Saw as a child & will never forget

Yes, I live in Dallas- it is still surreal to drive thru Dealy Plaza, knowing the ghosts and secrets it holds.
I went there on a high school trip in the early 80s. I was overcome with emotion looking at the sea of white crosses at Arlington Cemetery. Seeing Kennedy's grave was surreal and heartbreaking as well. Watching the exchange of guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier put me over the edge. Will never forget that.

So sad. I feel like the world lost out in so many ways. I think politics and the United States (and the world) would have been a much better place with both JFK and Bobby Kennedy in it. Even though I was only a year old, I could feel that something bad had happened and today, my heart still breaks for these losses.

I was reading Killing The Celebrities and I never knew that Elvis tripped and fell in'67 when he was making Clambake in his rented Beverly Hills Mansion and hit the Porcelain Bathtub and was out cold. the King was out of commission for 2 weeks. I believe he suffered Brain Damage and was never the same mentally. Then of course he took a massive amount of drugs and was basically gone and a shell of himself by'74 or so.

Not a bad Doc. Whatever his flaws, by standing up to the Cold War Hawks over the bay of pigs and the missile crises he saved the world twice. It’s little known, however there were tactical nukes in Cuba at the time of the Bay of pigs.

As for Vietnam…Johnson changed JFK’s Vietnam stance whilst JFK was lying in state.

I didn't think that I was going to comment until I read some of the others. I had turned 3 in April of 1963. My mother was downtown in Washington DC working. My sisters and I were home and our Mother came in crying. She told us what had happened. We remember going to the White House for the Easter egg roll and we had been exposed to our government buildings so even as young children we knew who our president was. I became a history buff on his assassination. At age 63 there are still a million questions that I have and wonder if they can ever be answered. We Americans can handle the truth. Please let it come out!!

I was in my 4th grade classroom when the principal, a tall thin Lincolnrsque man everyone admired, walked in with a transistor radio covering the events. He explained to every class in that school what had just happened.

They dismissed us from school half an hour early. I ran all the way home, arriving just in time to hear CBS announce that the president was dead. A bad weekend, a bad Thanksgiving, a bad Christmas, and a bad New Year's. Then four years later, when it seemed Bob Kennedy might return inspiration to the White House, he too was murdered. And although it sounds like a cliché, I think a part of America died with Bob Kennedy in June of 1968!

Kennedy started the Vietnam war so not without flaws. In May 1961, JFK authorized sending an additional 500 Special Forces troops and military advisors to assist the pro‑Western government of South Vietnam. By the end of 1962, there were approximately 11,000 military advisors in South Vietnam.

I remember that day JFK came to Moline Illinois airport for a rally in1960 and I shook his hand! I was 8 Years old!
Its something about JFK and RFK's assassinations that makes me so sad. I wasn't born until 1986, and a history buff for sure. Those two deaths just make me so deeply sad.

Was born in 55, i have very clear memories of the 60s. I believe that it was an decade that not only changed the US, but the world. So many leaders begin killed. Malcolm X, MLK, RFK, the civil unrest. The Vietnam War at it height. As a child it seemed no it was a very scary time for the country and world. Memories that are burned into my mind.

He had to. When the Captain of a ship is lost the First Mate has to run the ship and make sure the rest of the crew makes it. He had to say that for the country. If we didn’t move forward in the Cold War the russians would’ve exploited that tragedy for their own gain. He had to take command because at the time no one knew if Oswald was a lone nut or had bigger fish behind him. Oswald was like every assassin besides Booth, a loner and a failure at everything he did.

John F Kennedy was so loved, as a child, he was memorialized throughout my mother's Puerto Rican home. Many Puerto Ricans were still filled with sorrow at the mention of his name. My stepdad even did a painting of a statue of him. I am 57 years old and I still love John F Kennedy. What a beautiful innocence in those days.

Speaking of the assassination of JFK, there is a really good novel written by Stephen King called 11/22/63, which was adapted into a miniseries in 2016. This novel is about a man from the present day (played by James Franco in the miniseries) who uses a portal that takes him to 1960, being his mission to prevent the assassination of JFK and the entry of the USA into the Vietnam war. It is really curious to see the way in which he gradually adapts to the simple times of the 60s, not to mention that the story also features characters from other works of King, such as the children of IT and the Antichrist Randall Flagg, the main antagonist of The Stand and the Dark Tower franchise. The most curious thing here is that the idea of writing a story in which a time traveler tries to prevent the assassination of JFK comes from a casual dialogue from the horrible miniseries that King made in the nineties called "The Langoliers"

IMO : JFK would thought having his administration termed "Camelot" pretty amusing. His actual favorite tune was Won't You Come Home Bill Bailey" about a cheating Irish husband whose wife throws him out. He would have admired Jackie with creating the Camelot myth however.

I also think had Robert Kennedy been elected as President, he would have made an excellent President.
I have my doubts about Ted Kennedy, I’m not sure he would have been as successful.
Thankfully Ted Kennedy served as Senator for I believe over 40 years.
Ted Kennedy was a remarkable politician and over the course of his career he made countless accomplishments.
I didn’t agree with everything Ted did.
But to his credit he was able to work with Republicans to pass very important bills for the better good of our country.
Ted worked well with Ronald Reagan and also George W Bush.
Ted also forged good relations with Oran Hatch the Republican senator from Utah and many other people from across the aisle on the Republican side.
Ted clearly did not like Jimmy Carter and that became plain to see.
Upon Teddy’s passing, I was sorry to hear about it.

My mom and dad were in school that day when they heard the announcement. Both of my uncles were in the United States Marine Corp. both were advisors in the early stages of Vietnam when they heard. Both my uncles survived Vietnam. And both of them have said they think the only reason Kennedy was assassinated, was because he saw the writing on the wall with Vietnam, and they both believe JFK was trying to get us out of Vietnam. And save face from that quagmire. And let’s be realistic. He was the last democrat who actually loved America. Which is more then I can say about democrats this day in age. And for the record. I still think there was a second shooter at the grassy knoll. Do I think Lee Harvey Oswald had a hand it?, yes. Do I think he was involved?, maybe.

My mother was pregnant with me when JFK was assassinated. I was born about 2-1/2 months later in February and for some reason I have had a great interest in his life and death story. I was also born and raised in Boston and now live on Cape Cod but I don't really think this has too much to do with my interest in JFK and his family. There is definitely something about him that draws you in or is compelling. Maybe it was camelot or maybe it was that he was much more than a handsome son from a very wealthy and privileged family. He was also very smart, well read, had great sense of humor and knowledge of history and he was human with some of the same faults and short comings that many of us also have.
It's also very sad how he died at such a young age with such a young family and even though the real truth is out there, in the many books and documentaries that have been written and told as to who was really behind killing this man, I hope some day the truth is officially and unequivically on record and let the chips fall where they may.

LBJ then went on to decimate my generation, morally, mentally and physically with the Vietnam war for his and his party’s gain. That would have not happened under Kennedy. Unless and until this is fully disclosed to the American people we will never be able to focus. Until this point we were invincible. This reminded us we were not invincible. Following history, we just never fully recovered and just remained in a panic state since. Proxy wars etc just made a bad situation worse. Sigh.
To think one can work many years to build a life and legacy and it take 3.5 seconds for a bullet to leave a cowards gun to end it all. RIP JFK
