I'm flabbergasted by how many people don't recognize him. He looks like his dad, it's still the same voice actor AND he quotes one of his most famous lines which they even referenced just before that scene too.
I didn't back in 2020... I just had this nagging feeling that I should know, but brushed it aside. So the post-credits on the next episode was a shocker for me...😂
Season 2, actually. But yes, she was an orphan in Marley who was taken in by a cult of Eldians worshipping Ymir Fritz. They gave her the name "Ymir" and treated her like the goddess herself. When Public Security busted their little outfit, they put all the blame on her, and everyone was transformed on the port on Paradis.
@@HenryHoang-x I hardly think that counts as "explaining her backstory", especially since they mentioned her flashback taking place in Marley, which happens in Season 2.
Reiner, Jean and Armin have the greatest and most development in the entire series, They start at completely different places from where they finally end up.
"It is ultimately about the corruption from adults, and the innocence of these children..." can't wait for him to get to that episode later in Season 4 showcasing the extraordinary moral compass of one of the show's adults. I feel like he'll get a lot from that dialogue
Its really cool that you appreciate the psychological and philosophical elements of AoT, one of the things that makes it so stand out is that it invests so much time in explaining not just the main protagonists but so many side characters' stories and even the antagonists. To the point where it helps you understand and potentially empathize with them as much as the main characters. Highlighting how very not simple war and conflict are when you know the stories of both sides. I was the same, I was not a big fan of anime and had an idea of what to expect with most. AoT completely changed my mind on it.
Reiner is one of the best written Characters in fiction and i truly dont think people overlook his complexity when matched with other well written MAIN characters. One of my favorite deuteragonist
it makes looking back at the very first episode such a different experience. the image of the colossal titan peering over the wall has been completely immortalized - but the colossal was being controlled by a scared child, peering over the wall at a hive of devils. There's every chance that he was more afraid of them than they were of it.
My guy, he is trying so hard, bless his soul. It is honestly fascinating how well he picks up on all the social and political themes and parallels of the show but then suddenly major plot points blow right past him.
Bro missed a big reveal again 😂 But that's actually one of the things that set this show apart from everything else, that damn rewatch value, you think you watched it until you rewatch
What? Still on about Ymir? You'd think his patron would have explained it already. Ymir as she said herself, was trapped as mindless Titan for 60 years 🤯 In other words, She was an orphan toddler living in Marley, who then was randomly selected by a Cult, to be propped up as their lord and Savior "Ymir". Oh that's not even her given name, the crazy cult bestowed that name upon her. In reality, bc she was an orphan, she probably never knew her real name. Aka, She's from Marley, over half a century ago she experienced extreme prejudice and bam, that's how she ended up in Paradise Island.
I don't know if anyone has told you before, but please watch the OVA episodes. It will help you understand the bit where Annie was seen by Kenny and many other things. Levi's backstory as well
Based on this video's edit, just like me back in 2020, you probably missed a big reveal... 😅 I hope you didn't miss the post-credits on the next episode...
Im so glad Marcel didnt make it because annie and Bert traumatized paradis themselves And you telling me Marcel was smarter and better at using his powers than them
“To save humanity” line wasn’t in the first season. Shadis skipped Reiner along with the others who looked like they’ve seen some shit, like Eren and Mikasa
You need to focus more on what hapening in every episode ( you missed some hints in the previous ones too ) and what your seeing in your screen ( some scenes shown ) and some voices too ! even now you've missed a big reveal of some hints from the previous episodes ! that's why this anime is made to be rewatched many times and dont ever forget to always move forward 😂
*I'm sure you've been told by now, but the Jaw Titan was Ymir's titan. Porco Galliard ate her. This doesn't spoil anything and they're not going to tell you. They just show a brief 2 second scene where you're supposed to just figure it out.*
(These are not spoilers im just recapping what happened with the knowledge so far) Ymirs backstory was already in season 1 or season 2 im not sure but as far as i remember, she was just a symbol of a cult for eldians. Soon enough marley found out and injected the titan injection shi into her and released her into paradise island and she roamed around untill she ate marcel and inherited his jaw titan and she became human again. Later on reiner and bertholdt took her to marley and the current jaw titan inherited the jaw titan by eating her.
You know who Ymir was. She was a homeless kid in Marley who got abducted by a cult and made into the figure of being a descendant of Ymir, to be worshiped by her followers. She was basically a puppet. When the cult got busted she still tried to save her followers, despite everything, by taking the blame onto herself, even though she was just a victim of them too. Marley however still punished them all by sending them to Paradis, where she roamed for 70? years or so as a titan until our three Marley warriors came along. I guess you can now understand a bit better why Reiner is one of the fan favorites of this show. Who would've guessed, back during red flag episode, huh?
Wondering if you need to be female to be the Female titan does sounds pretty obvious but i like to imagine that if a boy got the "Female titan" it would just become the Male Titan. If they called Annies titan "Edurance titan" then we wouldnt be wondering if the gender changes depending who has it. You see the founding titan from Frieda was a girl because shes a girl but i doubt Uri turned into a female Founding titan. So personally i think it just depends on the gender of the shifter themselves
Great analysis. No offense but it feels like you turned your brain on with this one. Granted you sort of forgot the Ymir story, but fair enough it's been awhile. Everything else though like about the themes and how this is a great work of fiction of any genre/style period, is spot on.
It looked like you suspected him being Eren by his voice but in the end you didn't have much of a reaction even after seeing his eyes lol. Not a problem or anything just seemed a bit odd. Enjoying the reactions a lot. Keep up the good work!
there are many people who didnt catch that. you are just being another one of these annoying smartasses that just cant have people experience the show on their own.
"I'll just get straight into it" "That's all, can't talk about that!" every episode. Seems like he doesn't do this for any more than a paycheck pretty blatant about it too. Gross
are you dumb? first off, he's clearly into the series and is excited to start the episode and he talks throughout the whole video with a summary of his thoughts at the end, like what? Second, he barely makes any money off these videos, no reaction channels do.
he missed a big reveal but that means his rewatch is going to be insane

HE DIDN'T CATCH IT.
lol Damn.
Ymir's backstory already got explained in Season 2, if you look back at the flashback there, you'll notice that she's in Marley

11:35 always gives me chills. Then I feel inadequate knowing Isayama wrote this in his twenties 😭
people seem to forget how dope reiner's character is
he's the best character imo

"To save humanity" - very cool moment
Knew you'd love this one. Remains one of the best episodes in terms of pure writing skill from the author, if not the best.

John, please rewatch the last scene carefully, consider what the injured soldier says to Falco.
