I completely agree with you on it. It has a great nose and is enjoyable, but it just doesn't have that punch of flavor that I look for. I definitely tend to lean towards high proof whiskies though.
I had a younger cask strength of this and tbh not a fan, there was a very bitter sour note on the forefront, almost like socks, but had a nice finish. But maybe I got a bad batch haha So far my fav four grains are driftless Glenn, Woodinville and middle west double cask, j Henry

That’s what I get with eh Taylor small batch every time. Great on the nose but it’s so thin even at bottled in bond strength. Would love it at 55%+
