Thank you as well for this priceless account. I've always been curious about the juries because how they work (who gets on thehas always largely remained a mystery - and that's probably intentional. And I, like Tasos, must congratulate him on his great taste (I love all four of those you mentioned, and I hate Malta as well :Þ). Thanks a lot for sharing.
Very interesting, thanks. Of course I was too young at the time to know (or even consider) getting on an Icelandic jury. I thought at the time that they were exclusive.
That depends on the voting, I think. This voting is so exciting in itself that I find commentary quite unnecessary - but then I haven't heard Terry Wogan's commentary for this year so I'll hold my tongue until I do. Then again, 1981 and '83 were both exciting and greatly benefited from his commentary. It really depends.
I actually know a number of people who've sat on Irish juries over the years. Usually people wrote to RTE and asked to be put on a panel of potential jurors; or if you knew someone in RTE who got you invited onto the jury.
@klarinetta When I think about over again then I should have said: The only way to enjoy the voting is with Terry Wogan's commentary. Since he has retired now we can just forget about the voting and btw it's just an Eastern block voting now so it doesn't really matter that much anyway.
That still doesn't mean it's not a good song, of course. But yeah, funny how neither Denmark or Sweden didn't give Norway any points - and the same almost happened again in 1995. And when Norway had such good entries in both years.
Really? Wow, that's a priceless piece of information indeed! Thanks for sharing. :)

Very interesting story indeed - and I have to congratulate your father on his great taste!

Oh, yes, I'd forgot about that. Thanks for reminding me!
Just like 1988, it's my another favorite Eurovision Song Contest
The United Kingdom should have won this year!

Terry's commentary is good this year, but much to the disdain of who he is commentating for said a few times that the UK would do well but not win.

Hey, Jonathan, very fascinating fact about your dad indeed. Btw, has he told you what HE voted for? :-)
It'd probably be a long list, as I believe the juries gave 1-5 to each song apart from their native one.
Good evening Millstreet.... ;-)
You forgott that it's also great way to enjoy the voting with the commentary from Terry Wogan
I found out that Swiss jury also gave the same 5 and 6 points in 1988
