Mike you are way to chill about this!! This is a very serious issue!! I’m a former service department supervisor for a Toyota dealer in the NY area and I cant stand this type of behavior from dishonest techs. I always used to tell my guys in our weekly meetings, you have to work on every single customers car as if it were yours! Because that one time you choose not to will be a complete absolute failure to everyone”. We live in a society where everyone has cameras, so it’s kinda hard to be dishonest when it comes to customer service. I hope that Audi dealer sees this! They should be ashamed of themselves! All the best to you Mike!

I try to do my own work as often as I can, and give trusted independent mechanics work when I cannot. Every single time I would go to a LR dealership for a minuscule issues, i would end up with several other small issues right out of the service bay.

My dash cam is always in and every every Mercedes dealership, they do talk smack and they hire the lowest techs to work on warranty issues. Hence the repeat visits for everything’s. It’s ridiculous and I have been to 5 dealerships for service in Texas as I travel a lot. It’s all the same. Managers that don’t care and most techs underpaid and don’t do their job well. Even on time after a fuel tank swap, they didn’t tighten the bolts for the exhaust after they put it back on. Basic stuff that’s missed or damaged constantly.

Since i started using a Trickle Charger, it does not just keep your battery load at optimum, but also checks the Condition, and then Cycles to optimize the Battery Health, this really improved my Battery Life quite a bit...since you now have an audi too, could be an idea to make sure your Battery is kept healthy by such device as well...(CTEK 56-305 MXS)

I suspect dealership management is unaware this sort of behavior is going on. It will cost them customers in the end, and may result in customers’ cars not receiving proper care and experiencing greater potential damage in the future from neglected repairs.

As a former dealership mechanic, some batteries can be a complete B-word to do. Knowing how “shop talk” can be, how I interpret what he said was, the car was already there a lot of stuff, much longer than the initial oil change, and adding a battery would add a decent amount of time to the job, he did mark it off on the sheet, I would actually fault the service advisor for not rescheduling you to get in for that. The mechanic didn’t make a big fuss of it because it’s not a big deal as the car starts with no problems. But yeah service advisor should’ve booked you in for a battery replacement on another day. Anyone calling for that mechanic to be fired, I mean, that’s literally how most talk. Mechanics talk like that with each other, they wouldn’t to the customer, he didn’t know he was being filmed. Also most dealerships you’re not allowed to film in, so I’m not sure I would’ve posted this video.

A number of journalists/car reviewers when reviewing a quick shifting automatic(with torque converter) nearly always say that it shifts very fast and you don't really need a twin clutch; to an extent they are correct. I had an 8sp auto ZF although it shifted quickly it still wasn't as fast( or as crisp) as my previous twin clutch car. I missed the dual clutch's immediacy of the shifts. I know the ZF auto can be smoother but it doesn't really concern me. I'm now back with a dual clutch. The car shifts in the R8 were superior in every way to the BMW's 8 speed auto.

You got to take the whole freaking frunk out to replace the battery and one of the guys in the video said the estimate was given was for about an hour of labor. I'm just guessing after he was already spending 4 hours doing service on the car, he didn't want to spend another hour tearing apart and reassembling the front of the car just to replace the battery.

I believe the battery change out in an R8 takes about 45 mins to an hour. Although you can see the top of the battery from inside the front trunk, after removing an access panel, removing it completely requires removal of the front trunk liner and all the trim pieces surrounding it. The tech probably didn't want to do it because he knew it was a bit more time consuming than just swapping out a battery on most cars (10 mins). And I'm sure he's been told by the service manager to try and avoid such service work on cars still under the Audi "Care" warranty so he can focus his time on more profitable & billable hours for the dealership.
