‘Ministering’ to Replace Home and Visiting Teaching

- President Russell M. Nelson announced Sunday afternoon that the Church’s home and visiting teaching programs will be replaced by a coordinated, more personalized approach known as “ministering.”
“For months, we have been seeking a better way to minister to the spiritual and temporal needs of our people in the Savior’s way,” President Nelson said. “We have made the decision to retire ‘home teaching’ and ‘visiting teaching’ as we have known them. Instead, we will implement a newer, holier approach to caring and ministering to others. We will refer to these efforts simply as ‘ministering.’ Effective ministering efforts are enabled by the innate gifts of the sisters, and by the incomparable power of the priesthood. We all need such protection from the cunning wiles of the adversary.”
This new endeavor is overseen jointly by the presidencies of a local congregation’s elders quorum (adult men) and Relief Society (adult women), and, like Saturday evening’s announcement to combine elders quorums and high priests groups, is part of a larger effort to simplify and improve the Church’s ministry.
Unlike the previous programs of home and visiting teaching, ministering does not include a set monthly message in the Church magazines nor a prescribed way to keep in contact, such as in-home, face-to-face visits each month - even though visits are important when they are possible. The new method focuses on flexibility to the needs and circumstances of individuals throughout the world, coupled with quarterly face-to-face interviews between leadership and everyday members about personal and family needs.
I am very grateful for this procedural change. It will enhance and add to our efforts to reach out to ALL the members within our Wards and Stakes. Im especially happy to learn that the young men and women will be included! They will add strength, vitality and enthusiasm as they are mentored by loving adults in the process. Total inspiration! As a teenager this is what we used to call giving service, so not only did we have visiting teachers and home teachers we also had those who gave service. I guess all there is to say about this is God knows the hearts of men. Faith, hope, and love, God is good in Jesus. name

Tears. Now I can be ministered. No more missed visits from both my home teachers and visiting teachers. I haven't had true visitations for such a long time. This made me cry.

This is such a wonderful new change! Yes, it sounds better. The unity in quorums is better whilst you have a calling to the clerk's office, the bishopric, the stake presidency, or the stake's high council! When Elder Holland mentioned the bumper sticker gag, it didn't just mean to visit teach or home teach, it meant that we can all make one little effort to reach out to members of the ward to fulfill our duty to serve them and it will mean everything!

We are so thankful for the new changes... not that we disliked the old but, when a prophet and apostles pray and fast in deep prayer to our Heavenly Father, we know that the priesthood is in partnership with the Lord.

That is all well and good, but when the members have a lackadaisical attitude. Our bishopric does not know anything about certain ward members.

What does "Later Day", "restored gospel" and "last dispensation" mean and how do they relate to each other. 🙏 I'm struggling to understand that in context of all the changes going on in the Church since 1830 to 2018. Blessings. Thanks!
Al Rei We believe that the gospel was taken from the earth when the apostles were all killed. Thus bringing about the renaissance period, dark ages and taking the true gospel from the earth. Then in the 1800's Joseph Smith prayed to know which church is true and then God and Jesus appeared before him and he recieved further instruction to eventually restore the gospel in these last days before the saviour returns.

Really unsure about this. Never had a home teacher in the last 5 years or any way of any communication what so ever. They have a talk but FAIL TO ACT
I am sorry about that ministering should be a better way, but it seems so easy, that some people might not even do it
It's so sad at 2:06 that everyone laughs at the bumper sticker message. That's not funny. It's sad and too many people are looking for the easy way out. This new program is supposed to encourage us to care MORE in a Christlike way, not less. I recently saw in a post from a friend at BYU that had heard people talking amongst themselves saying things like "All I have to do is text my friend and that counts now!" or "This will be so much easier." It's not supposed to make us slack off like that. It's supposed to stretch our souls and transform us into better, more dedicated, more faithful, more caring, more consistent disciples of Christ.
