    Old video - but brilliant as expected. My 1 year old 250L is suffering dino - introduced by top up of tap water (silicate + phosphates) - cheers for the advice.

    I run my ALR1 dry as well with no leak issues and have covered it with black vinyl leaving a vertical slit to see it fill up with cheato . Works well with nitrates as you said and I have gotten some weird anemone like things growing on each LED which were easy to remove .

      Brilliant - that's the perfect solution! Are they aiptasia?

      The Reef Dork - No they are just a strange jelly like thing, best description would be “ a little fingernail sized wine gum” they might be a Sea Squirt Oe similar.

      Gotcha. Do you get any copepods in your alr1?

      The Reef Dork - To be honest I never took much notice as I dosed a small amount of them them weekly in my tank. I have just added a refugium so I have taken the ARL1 off line but I thought it was worth having when it was running. Keep up with the VLOG’s they are informative and amusing.

    Thank for the video man, I plumbed my Algae reactor dry... best decision I have ever made. Its water tight and works well, no issues with cleaning or removing it. I think I should put up a video of the new setup, planning a rescape (the rocks are just setting with their epoxy at the moment).

      I've just plumbed it into my sump as I need the space in my cabinet. I'd definitely rather dry plumb it though. Yeah, put something up - it's been a while so lots to show!

    Love the T shirt! I had a ALR1 but it didn’t grow much, probably was a bit of overkill on a RSR nano though! :-)

      That's a shame - it worked well on my 120L nano and I actually think its main limitation is its small capacity!

    What size pump do you run on it, I have it but my algea covered in slim

      I have the lights on for 18 hours is that ok

    • @ReefDork
      @ReefDork  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From memory I had a 1300lph pump. 18 hours is too much - the algae needs time to rest so wind back to 12.

    Will this work on a fresh water tank

    • @ReefDork
      @ReefDork  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Freshwater kills chaeto and I'm afraid I don't know if other algae would work

    What pump did you run this on?

    • @ReefDork
      @ReefDork  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used a Sicce Syncra 1.5 although if I started again I'd use a jecod dcp2000 - quieter and easy to adjust.

    good review, for me I could not get my chaeto to grow at all in my system I've tried 2x now and my chaeto died both times I feed my tank with red sea trance elements and colours nitrate 10 po4 0.02 and was running on a Eheim CompactON 1000 donno what happened with mine. I also used the same brand of chaeto from KoralSea so i never had any pests like aiptasia

      @ReefDork  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've seen a lot of people have more success when turning the flow up - worth a shot if you've still got the kit. Maybe switch to a 1,500 pump.

    • @alancunningham5120
      @alancunningham5120 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      which pump would you recommend ?

    • @ReefDork
      @ReefDork  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a sicce syncra 1,350. It worked well but it was a bit noisy. I'd go with a Jecod dct2000 - cheap, quiet and adjustable up to 2,000lph. I had one as my return pump on my nano tank - really impressed with it for the money. Very small too.

    • @ReefDork
      @ReefDork  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Although if money is no object, get a Vectra S1. Absolutely silent.

    • @alancunningham5120
      @alancunningham5120 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      got S1 atm running my main display i only run the pump at 40% on my reefer170 to lazy to make a manifold just to run the alr on. The sump is very small also so with the alr + the nyos skimmer in there it's super packed out, was toying with the idea of adding the alr on it's side and plumbing it right into the tank display not 100% sure that would be a good idea.

    not enough bio load....look at the tank a few fish and live rock waste of time using a reactor.

    • @andycx2
      @andycx2 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I have one in a similar situation and it reduces my nitrates to zero
