@@NYRyder1983 It's really sad. She was already clearly in a fragile mental state after losing her son. She's probably going to go completely off the deep end after finding out what her husband has done. And what's going to happen to poor Bobby after this?
The husband must have been crazy himself, otherwise he would have actually thought about what this would do to his family.

I found this to be a touching scene. Sam’s sad and pitiful goodbye to Robby hit me in the feels. Earlier they were tying fishing flies together when Sam confessed he wasn’t rescued from being homeless. Robby’s demeanor at the dinner table shows he is sad for Sam and distraught at his own situation. Mr Drummond dashing in and scooping Sam up was heartwarming. Sam’s sad goodbye to Robby was heartbreaking. We can surmise that Robby helped Sam and gave him comfort while in a terrible situation. Otherwise he wouldn’t have given that sad goodbye.

If I remember correctly, Mr. Douglas kidnapped Sam because he and his wife wanted a second child but couldn't have one. He snatched Sam, brought him home and told his wife and son that Sam had been homeless and that they were rescuing him from starving and freezing on the street.
Mrs. Douglas and the son were really nice to Sam. Mr. Douglas pretended to be nice, but when he and Sam were alone, he kept telling him that if he said anything or did anything wrong, he would kill Sam's family. So, Sam stayed quiet until he realized that he could really trust the other boy.

You really can't blame Sam for being quiet during most of this experience. That man threatened to kill his family. He did the right thing by keeping quiet. He might have even saved himself, Bobby and his Mom too. I know that they were the man's son and wife, but that don't mean nothin'. How many times have we heard on the News about a man killing his wife and kids? Too many. It would've been easy for Sam to just rat the man out to his wife and son, but anything could've happened if he did. The man could've killed everybody in the house, Sam included. Anyone who's capable of kidnapping someone else's child and making death threats to that child's family is capable of killing their own family too. I think Sam kept quiet to protect his family, Bobby and his Mom.
    Way to go, Sam.👍

There are many problems with this great episode
    1. Sam's abduction would be headline news and Brown wouldn't be able to keep it a secret from his family.
    2. Everyone in the Drummond household just assumes Sam will turn up fine, while ignoring all logic - Sam was a kidnapped 10 year old boy and no ransom demand was made, no one brings up he's most likely been raped and murdered.
    3. The police let Philip go along on the rescue.

If there was an episode of Fresh Prince where little cousin Nicky was kidnapped how do you think that would turn out? It would have had it's serious side like Papa's Got a Brand New Excuse but they could still work in some humour like maybe Will and Carlton could have sneaked in and maybe Carlton would have done his girly scream and Will could have gone "Yo back up, back up". Hell there was an episode where Will, Carlton and Uncle Phil were kidnapped by that guy in the clown suit and that was done for laughs. RIP Safety Guy.

I don't remember how this episode ended, but I would like to think that the dad was able to forego prison time if he agreed to mental health counseling and community service. What a pity it would have been to further destroy that grieving family by wrenching away their dad. Drummond was so kindhearted that I could see that happening.

I do feel bad for her and Bobby, and the father certainly wasn't an evil person (at least not compared to Bill and Mr. Horton), but I certainly wouldn't feel easy about it if he was out there possibly looking to kidnap another child.

Earlier in the episode, Don Brown told his wife that they could give a home to a homeless child. Don kidnapped Sam and pretended that Sam was homeless. The stupid thing about Don resorting to a kidnapping is that with the homeless problem in New York City, he probably could have found a homeless child to take in. Nobody would have gotten hurt if Don would have just used his head. Instead he hurt the Drummond family as well as his own family.

I felt for Bobby too. he's going to need services which he may not get as a result of all this trauma in a very short period of time. It's a very 80's script to make low income people ''troubled wrong doers' and the wealthy Drumonds (and their stepchildren) innocent victims. Bobby is 'smart' but never helps sam escape ---like Arnold himself had done in earlier episodes from bad situations.

I loved Diff'rent Strokes and grew up watching it when it first aired. Once Sam the brat came on with his just as annoying mother Maggie it made me want to scream.
Another Cousin Oliver syndrome on a sitcom. I know so many fans of the show agree. Maggie was just as annoying and it made me miss Kimberly. They were losing ratings and bringing Sam and Maggie on the show nailed their coffin.
On one episode Maggje threw away Arnold's shoes which had the raffle money in it. Drummond offered to by 230 dollars worth and she made them go sift in the trash as rich as he was.
The both sucked! This episode was only good because die hard fans were hoping it meant Sam would not come back.

    • @markv1274
      @markv1274 ปีที่แล้ว

I hated Sam, yet I thought his mother was okay. Bringing her in wasn't a bad idea, it meant that Mr Drummond had a missus on the show, yet the makers of the show should've left Sam out of it. In terms of a storyline, you could do something new with Maggie. You couldn't do anything with Sam that hadn't been done before. We'd already seen The Bicycle Man and Bill The Kidnapper. Sam being abducted just made Mr Drummond look like the most incompetent, least protective father in sitcom history. Sam was always going to come back, but really, he shouldn't have been there in the first place.
