To quote Dickens: “Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen nineteen and six, result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pound ought and six, result misery.”

About 50 years ago, I read David Copperfield and was struck by Wilkins Micawber saying "Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen nineteen and six, result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pound ought and six, result misery". This became my number 1 behaviour and have never looked backed. Resulted in saving for first few years before commencing investing (unit trusts) when I reached 20 and haven't stopped since. The downside - Frugality a behaviour I cannot kick.

Hi Kelvin, thanks for this, enjoyed reading it. The last part especially made me take notice, frugality being tough to kick. That's a video I'd like to make.

Atomic Habits is excellent. This feels like a behind-the-scenes on actual improvement... the book is excellent on stripping everything back. Love the style of this video too. Feels like a documentary. Very enjoyable. Nice tshirt.

I've generally followed your advice and on the whole have a fulling live . I've seen a family member who earned a six figure salary for many years and is so obsessed about hitting his middle class markers his still working close to 70 looking around, totaly burn out, having spent nearly all his money with little savings. Asking where did it all go wrong. facing a further now realising its not light at end of the tunnel but a train coming towards him. Some people apper so intelligent yet unable to ever scaratch that financial itch.

Mathematically speaking you are right. But there is a physiological element to this, something behavioural. Attacking the smallest one gives a quick win and for some people can be the difference between them carrying on and seeing it through or not.
