Hallberg Rassy 312 "Ellös" - Sea4See: The restoring project (DIY SAILBOAT)
Good morning everyone for you the brand new fresh episode of the series "Restoring an Hallberg Rassy 312". Here it is finally time to install the capping rail.. Stefano and Luca of Lineasteam in about 8 hours did the miracle a lot of work a lot of precision astonish result finally the long awaited stuff is now in position

➡️ About My Boats: The Hallberg - Rassy 312 was built for fifteen years between 1979 and 1993. Totally 690 boats were built during this time period. The HR 312 was a very popular model. Until 1986 the Hallberg - Rassy 312 Mark I was built, with the portlights in the blue stripe in the hull and with or without quarter berth. Models without quarter berth had an extra cockpit locker on starboard.

Ellos may become too beautiful to use. HR may insist on making it a museum exhibit. Don’t let them do that of course. Boats like Ellos deserve to be sailed and sailed and sailed. Can’t wait to see you sailing the Atlantic!

If there was an Oscar for DIY Boat films, it surely should go to you. Beautiful boat and videos. I sail a 1983 HR 312 which is still in very good shape. Quality was much better in these days. Only 60k for all that work??? That sounds like a bargain to me. Stay safe!

I saw many of your episodes, you are making this old helberg rassy boat as a new boat , why is that ?.
At the same time why don't you buy a new helberg rassy, might well be chipper for you than renewing this one, 🤔😁

This is another excellent 'job done'. I'm in the same situation as trying to renew some parts of my 352, but the cap rail was too expensive to build it from scratch. So i decided to replace some parts.
What I found after removing the old parts, is that I felt very relaxed when I had only screws to remove in order to lift teak and not glue. If that rail was glued I would have to destroy it. And because this part especially in the middle part of the boat is quite consumable due to easy touching , at marina, other boat etc I would prefer not to glue it. Just for this reason, otherwise glued is much better.

Kostas I prefer to glue it something happen I will replace it. I got the template so the job is easy... but for sure I didn’t want to touch nobody neither in marina and outside 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hi Gabriele, I think that when you are done with Ellos she will be worth at least 2 times what she cost brand new. And that will take into account modern inflated prices! Will you have her surveyed when you are done?
My 6.3 meter sailboat, made in December of 1972, cost about $3,800 then. With inflation her price new right now (if the company was still in business) would be about $18,000. And I too am working slowly to make her better than when she came from the factory. I was lucky about needing to fix her up because she was sailed during the summer a few times for five years then put in a barn for 32 years! As a result, she was almost like new and needed almost no repairs. : - ) Scott W PS - I'm still hearing about your friend Ed but more often he is missing. So good job!

@@sea4see, You do know that I am in the US right? If you look up Bath, New York (on a map) you will see Keuka Lake to the north. That's were I sail most of the time. I'm not very worried about the Coronavirus. There are many farms here and not a lot of people. The only BIG city is 140 kilometers away. I will be careful even if there's no big chance for me to catch the virus. I do hope the best for you, all you helper friends and everyone else too! I will be happy to see the new video! Scott W

So the toe-rails are glued with körapur 928 glue instead of screwed like it was done traditionally?
Yes glued and screwed but with less screws than was original I will see how performance something happen I can add more screws

Hi English ain't my mother language but I think the part of the boat you're referring to it's called "gunwale" ( pronounced gunnel) .Credo che in italiano si chiama falchetta 😀
Ah ah English is not my mother language too.. there are 4/5 word for every thing in English!! Thx I will remember in my next video👍🏻
@@sea4see anche se il termine pi coretto per descrivere la parte superiore sarebbe cap rail (falchetta) , che fa parte di tutta la costruzione che si chiama gunwale. Non so se tutto questo e abbastanza chiaro.😀

No need it was already cut with round profile to match the boat one!
