One of the sickest channels out here! Do you plan on making content in English, or transcribing the videos at least (youtube sometimes does a bad job or offers no subtitles), I was so sad when I saw the only Kai Tracid masterclass online but I don’t understand enough German to buy it😢
Ones worth mentioning is - Rob Papen RAW Kick & Punch2 (punch BD too) - TRK01 for Reaktor - Synsonic BD-909 (free mac, win) There's many more but usable in Techno those are worth checking out as well the ones mentioned in the video. Of course you can make kicks in operator or sylenth1 but it's fun to have some other stuff
yes I heard about that rob papen one, need to ry out indeed. The synsonic I know but for 808/909 I think ableton did a great job with their core kit especially since live 11. TRK01 I might need to check too , heard about it but never really made me take the plunge
1-Nimble Kick 2-Raw Kick 3-BigKick Credland Auido 4-Serum. All four are spectacular but I prefer this last one because of how fast and versatile it is to create kick drums, it is incredible. Backbone (Steinberg).
Great video, I learned about Chop Suey from you now, and now I need to have it. Looks so much cleaner than chopping and rendering in Ableton. :) I have one suggestion to add. But before it, I'll just say that I cannot imagine working on kicks without Psyscope as a visualizer. Especially to tame the dynamic range or length. And fit kicks with rumble and basses. But my main suggestion is Phase Plant. It became my go-to kick synth. It's a "generic" synth (though more like a modular in a box), but there are a few features that make it amazing for percussion synthesis and kicks: - It has a "Curve" type of envelope, which can be any shape, whether time- or tempo-based. So I can set the length to a quarter note and have a super precise volume or pitch envelopes matching my tempo. Edit it in any way you like. - Layering, including analog waves, wavetables, samples, granular, and noise. And process together. Anything can be FMd, including filter FM, or sample FM (!). - Disperser effect (paid extra), which might not be exactly for techno (more like psytrance zappy kicks), but used in moderation makes for very cool effect and actually reduces kick peaks. - Many great sounding distortions, filters, and dynamics effects all in one plugin. And you can apply those same super-precise curves to automate their parameters. So I can distort just the punch of one layer and leave the tail clean. Or the other way around. - Their transient shaper with clipper is amazing for percussions. So much better than Drum Bus "transient" knob. And this is also in their free bundle. - With Snapheap and Multipass you get amazing multiband processing. Basically insert *any* effect in any band. So not just multiband distortion or dynamics, but multiband everything and a complex combo. (The only disadvantage is that it's not linear phase, so can change the timbre and make transients less snappy). I very highly recommend it, even if just for curves - no Ableton built-in synth has such curve controls. In a similar fashion, when not using PP, I use Shaperbox to add some effects and precise curve shaping.
@@audioreakt Opal is on sale for $41 right now (usually $60), so it's a great time to pick it up! I just got it a few weeks ago and it's the best money I've spent on a software instrument in years. Would be worth the money for the sequencer alone IMO.
I recently came across a few newer ones. I’m still trying them out but they are interesting. Audija kick drum, very reasonable at the moment, Kick Ninja, Kick 3 currently in beta.
Yeah I saw this last week or so two new kick vst in one week, none of them really bring nothing new imo but to be fair didn’t really look into it properly
@@audioreakt I think you’re right there’s nothing groundbreaking. Phase lock and switching between logarithmic and linear modes make it more intuitive to create a kick but I don’t think there’s a huge amount of room for improvement or innovation in the kick domain. The only thing I could think of that none appear to be doing is the ability to have another kind of synthesis to give some different flavours e.g FM or physical modelling, but then I could just use any other synth for that. AI kick replication is a useful learning tool I think if you want to recreate certain kick but modify it and are not sure how but I’m not sure how often I’ll use it…
FYI for anyone considering PunchBox - just be aware it's not compatible with Apple silicon (M1/M2 chips), and D16 isn't planning to update. Can still be used if you run your DAW in Rosetta mode, it's just a bit of a pain and can impact performance. D16 is working on a V2 version that will be compatible, but it will be a paid upgrade. Also, Opal by Fors (Max for Live device, not VST) is another I'd add to the list. Really cool groove-box inspired drum synth plugin by former Elektron employees. Has an amazing sequencer and 4 different synth engines - a couple of them are excellent for making kicks.
Are you sure about this Punchbox claim, because mine is working on a M2 chip with Ventura 13.4. I heard about opal, someone mention it already, I need to ry it yes, make sense about the former elektron employee because it look like a lot like elektron design. Will cehck it out, thanks
mate this module it's crazy, when I do sample pack, I always allows myself at least one afternoon just playing iwth it, and it's crazy how good this stuff is... and I always get lost too
I like the look of Kick 2, I use TRK01 a lot of shaping capabilities. Most of my kicks come from Jomox Mbase 11, I haven’t found any VST that can come close.
This video made me buy SINEE's Chop Suey ! Would love to see a video from you using it to make a kick and process it through Ableton to get the kind of stuff you have in your samples packs (that I buy too btw 😀my wife is gonna hate you !)
to be honest there is already a lot of video on how to use it. then about designing techno kick, it's a lot about experimenting, finding the right pitch enveloope, layering properly, etc...
I use the beyer dynamic dt 770 pro 250 ohms, I've been using them for 10 years+, they are great : comfortable, great sound (pretty flat but not perfect), price is correct.
@@audioreakt then make an AB test with resampling and the sound of your plugins, and if you want to save cpu, just freeze tracks. otherwise you loos sound quality. or revamp the samples with your soundcard

Bd-909 is a must-have!
I can always learn more ways to make a kick! The tutorial you made a few days ago is siiiiiick, with the Saturn method.
yeah kick designing is the most unpredictable thing with always new thing to discover
1-Nimble Kick
2-Raw Kick
3-BigKick Credland Auido
4-Serum.

yes I heard about the synth but never really gave it a try, thanks for taking the time to writing all this,
Do you have a recommended tutorial for things like this? I love Phase Plant but sometimes get overwhelmed by my options.
@@xza_old Dash Glitch has a lot of great Phase Plant tutorials in YT. He's a psytrance producer, but the techniques apply to other genres.
2 more, good not just for Kick but percussion in general, excellent for Techno:
Fors Opal
Sugar Bytes DrumComputer

I also have an updated version of PunchBox, they took a long time to get around to updating it but they did.
The BIA module packs a lot of punch… would love to see how you create techno perc loops with it. Its range is so huge I often lose control of it 😆

yeah the jpmox is something indeed
Nice video! Any suggestion to get the kicks from David Guetta, Tiesto? Thank you!
not really what I listen to but would say use kick2 or use /layer vengeance samples... thats seems the most used in EDM
Thermal is also crazy good for experimenting with rumbles/top rhythms
I need to check it out but there is also a new distortion plugin in live 12 I want to try it out haha
hey man how do you get the deep (bochka) type of kick?
Nice video. I like Bigkick as my main kick vst.
I tried it long time ago but didn't really impressed me, I need to give another go
Same I tried and the interface didn't get me going. Sure if you really dig it you can harness some good kick out of it.
Take a kick that you love and use it for de top end. I love the bottom end of the Bigkick plugin but each its own. 😊
Drumazon 2 ? but sinee's one looks cool
yeah but since live 11 , I found the core kit so good that I don't really need anymore 808/909 emulation

layer them all, saturate them, and do revamping just with your soundcard
oh, you're doing that

will try it out
