- Is Sonic Superstars Best On Nintendo Switch? In this video, we will do an in-depth graphics and performance review on the newly released Nintendo Switch Port of Sonic Superstars! I take an extremely close and critical look at the game next to current-gen consoles and see if you should speed to the switch to grab a copy!

I still play Frontiers on the Switch. Some of that music...just pure comfort food. That game relaxes me. I also got it on ps5 and it looks so much better, but Switch on the go baby!!!
Frontier looks so ugly on the Switch. It didn't need to look that bad when you got 3D games like Mario and Zelda that look good. Looks way better on PS5
@@hjames78Zelda doesn't look good, but Mario hell yes
@@hjames78 I wouldn’t say it’s ugly but it’s definitely not as good as the PS5 but I don’t know what to tell you I still like it :-)
@@LZMP60 I think Zelda looks wonderful but regardless it looks better then frontier. The switch is capable of making that style of game look better. Because it has. I don't expect it to look as good as the PS5 version. The Switch is more durable than the PS5 because mine stopped working after a year and a half because a bug got in it smh.
@@TaeKwonMoe it's ugly lol. It's so ugly it took me out of the game. I play the same game in PS5 and I'm into it smh
Sonic Superstars takes place before Sonic met Shadow and Blaze, so there wouldn’t really be a canonical reason as to how or why they would be playable.
Sonic Superstars is one of those games I'd want to play almost exclusively in handheld. It's just a silly little game. A "TV game" would be something big and spectacular gameplay-wise.
Real-time action games and fighting games, for example, require you to view the whole screen at all times, intensely focus, and even turn your head sometimes. Visual fidelity helps you orient yourself and anticipate enemy attacks. Those are "TV games". 2D platformers, turn-based games, etc. are simplistic enough to be played on smaller displays and visual fidelity matters less.
Ok boomer

Funfact: This is the first and only Hedgehog Engine 2 game that runs at 60fps on the Nintendo Switch.
With the exception of Sonic Mania, all other Sonic games on the Nintendo Switch (Forces, Colors Ultimate, Team Sonic Racing, Frontiers, and even Sonic Origins' 3D menu) run at 30fps.
Honestly, even though the downgrade in graphics is noticeable I think it's a good trade-off, playing a frantic platformer like this at 30fps wouldn't be that good and framerate is more important than graphics in this type of game.
Pretty sure this is Unity Engine
And honestly it looks like that only when comparing it to something more powerful like the PS5, but it still looks good on its own and during actual gameplay
The depth of field effect makes most versions of the game look like ass. Yeah, the Switch version's colors appear slightly washed out compared to the more powerful platforms, but it's such a minor thing you'd never know unless you were specifically looking/comparing the two. Huge enemies have their polygon counts reduced noticeably and are therefore less detailed, which is understandable. Personally, I'll take a few noticeably worse looking large enemies here and there over just about every background throughout the entire game being blurry as hell.
The Switch also has the advantage of a bunch of authentic retro style controllers, such as Genesis controllers by Nintendo and Retro-Bit, as well as Saturn controllers by Retro-Bit.
I can't really tell much of the difference, besides resolution. It's a cartoony platformer, so I don't really expect it to make the most of the Switch or PS5 versions.
The shading is a little better, but the game largely looks the same to me on all platforms.
I still don't know why people are shocked about this. Switch has a Tegra X1 chip and it's a handheld. Even Deck makes compromises on its ports. Expecting 4k resolution or something like that is kind of silly.
It's great but my problem is the loading screen lag is annoying a bit I'm not even a big person on lag or graphics but it's really noticeable
This needed split screen, desperately.
Using Supersonic makes the game stutter a lot on Switch. It becomes very unstable, especially when drop dashing. It plays somewhat better in handheld mode. Which is good, since I prefer platformers in handheld. There are also some bugs with the music when using the Supersonic power.
Multiplayer is never good in Sonic games. Its a singleplayer game.
Lol! Had such a great time watching your video! At first sight you look like an average TH-camr looking for views, but you are really good and passionate at what you do! You poured so much effort into this, and it shows. You are an intelligent being, having actually decent opinions, and you are able to reflect that in a way that is not intrusive or hurtful. You also slipped in a couple jokes here and there. 😀 (“jiggle physics” had me cracking up 😂). Great vid bro! You’re great at what you do, don’t stop, and have a great day.
Thank you for the encouraging comment! Glad you enjoyed 😁
Yeah, it might look a little better on PlayStation and Xbox, but just get any 2D platformer on Nintendo Switch if it’s an option imo. First of all, you won’t notice graphics that much in a 2D platformer like in a 3D game. Second, graphics shouldn’t matter anyway, just don’t look like an atrocious dumpster fire and i can play. Third, performance really won’t be much worse on Switch, noticeable frame drops would shock me, and 1080p docked or 720p portable isn’t that bad, please shut up those of you who think 1080p is a blurry resolution, it looks great, even 720p holds up. Anything lower though, i can’t defend it. And finally, you can play these games on the go.
So personally, if you can get a game that’s in 2D, or is friendly to hardware like the Switch, on the Switch, just get it. I would’ve bought Sonic Origins Plus on my Xbox, but i held off until my get my Nintendo Switch this Christmas, there i’ll get all the games like Sonic Superstars, Mania, Origins, and whatever other underpowered games that run fine on it.
from what i’ve learned (haven’t tried myself, hence watching this trying to decide exactly what the title said : ) it’s NOT 1080p docked but 720p, same as handheld…
?¿?¿?
It looks horrible on Switch, so much so that it hurts the experience, it looks like Mighty No.9 to give you an idea
The game is good, I like it, but I regret having the Switch version
I wouldn't want to play this game on a big screen. I prefer the switch over series x version
Get an OLED. Everything looks better on handheld for OLED
It is literally the exact same resolution in handheld mode
Shadow is coming soon....
I'm gonna stay and watch, but as much as I hate to say this, maybe don't give away so much early on? I was looking to see if I should get this on PC or Switch, and you immediately showed and noted it has graphic limitations. That was all I came for!
I'd prefer to know the answer first, then watch if I'm interested.
Gracias! Muy buena reseña.
This game looks like a 3ds game and it should have been 4p split screen
I also seen alot of micro stutter on the ps5 version as well as on your switch footage
The game is not well optimized and was rushed out the door to release before Mario I'm pretty sure. It looks very bad for a Switch game, and looks straight up worse than some 3DS games undocked. Comparing it to Mario Wonder really makes you wonder how a port this bad is $60...
Very helpful and concise video!
I play it on Steam Deck OLED. I like the actual zones but Jesus the boss fights are just dreadful.
or you know, the PC version which looks the best, will be modded and can have reshade profiles lol
Console fanboys acts like PC isn't a platform which is hilarious
You think you have it bad? Even when Switch is ths top selling platform, it always gets listed last. Sony platforms are always the first mention for multiplats because everyone is cucked by this company. Even when they're not doing well. PC mustards have always had it easier than bingtendo fans.
Uff. I'll wait for the half off sale on physical copy after patches.
Superstars is underrated
Great vid!:D
Thanks!
No. The game has performance issues up the wazoo in the late game.
How do you use the emerald powers with only one joycon??
The L and R buttons let you bring up the emerald powers wheel.
Ps5 version is too fast
Sonic Superstar dura 3 horas, Mario Wonder en cambio dura 12 horas
Wonder is going to annihilate this game.
la tuya por si acaso
ARE YOU CRAZY NO ITS BEST ON THE PS5 OR THE PC OR THE PS4
Better to play portable. This is not a big screen game at all
Gross. The game looks ugly on a tv no matter what version you're playing
@@AltairEgo1 your opinion but who wants to play sonic superstars on the nitendo switch yes the game and story is good and fantastic but the graphics are not good
@@AminAmon-kt1hy because it's a handheld and people like playing simple platformers on Nintendo consoles. Sonic games always sold the best on them. Not hard to imagine why.
What else is there to say about it really? You get a PS4/PS5 to play games like Elden Ring and Horizon, and you get a Switch to play games like Sonic, Mario, and indie titles.
I can't really speak for you because I don't know you. But it's just my observation of consumers 🙃
Whatever, I enjoyed it for what it was. And what else can I expect from Sega? They're known for making buggy/messy Sonic games across all platforms.
It was only Mania in recent years that ran perfectly, and it took indie devs to pull it off lmao.
No, is a game better on an SOC from 2015? Lmao.
Switch version is bad
No it's not. Next question.
