Try the test with a kink in the wire, that’s where it’s going to break. Couple of things I have observed over the years with snareing of Rabbits. I have seen snares set large enough to catch a fox. If the snare has a large loop it gives the snared rabbit more length and room to jump around more. I personally don’t use a big loop or a long tailing from the loop to the stick I use to tie the snare to. My loops are 3.5 to 4 inch in diameter and same height from ground. I use a small 3/8 to 1/2 stick with a notch/slit to secure the snare to hold it in place. Then I use a piece of nylon line tied to end of snare and other end is tied to a more secure limb or a little larger stick driven into the ground. The line is the key it won’t twist off. It may take a little more time to set but one well set snare is worth 6 set in hast and improper. I use BRASS legal wire. I have snared Rabbits for 50 plus years. I snared 20 Rabbits this year with 30 slips, lost one Rabbits.
After testing it , I’m convinced it’s about how you set your snares … and some people are reluctant to do it a different way then they’ve been doing all their life. I personally find bendy sticks ( green ) or fresh sticks with a bit of give help a lot to spread out the force that’s out on the snares
Great video my buddy. You must have strong finger pull hard like that ha,ha. You where putting a lot of force outward on the stainless. You done a excellent job on showing the 3 different wire types. Nobody ever showed this before so hates off to you for putting out this great content. Take care and Merry Christmas to you and your woman and rest of your family.
Great video Brayden . My experience shows if the wire kinks it breaks much easier. I enjoyed the video. It would be interesting to see what the difference would be between the 20 gauge brass vs the 22 gauge brass.
I have used stainless when it was still legal to use with great success. This year i used both brass and picture cord lots 9 with the brass and 0 with the picture cord.
The pitchercord seems to be terrible. Not sure why more people aren’t talking about it. All you hear is “ brass is garbage “ lol. Nobody ever talks about pitchercord
Trapping and snaring for over 40 years used it all! Since the banning of the stainless I use brass with piece of fishing twine to tie it on very thin crossbar that can move very easily! That's what works for me! Even tie it off in a bow so you can take them up much faster when you get bun bun!
Sounds awesome ! I’m heavily convinced it all comes down to how you set your snares at the end of the day. Now don’t get me wrong, nothing will be stainless steel in terms of durability
I use to tie the snares with sud line to the stick and a brass snare . I’ve even heard old timers boiling the brass wires and picture wire to dull them so rabbits were less likely to see it .
I can appreciate the tests buddy but the proof is in the experiences that I have had with them. I have used stainless in past years when it was legal and had much more success. Last year with the brass was awful. Only started with the picture cord this year. See how she goes. Kinks is also a factor.
Great test , definitely some merit in your test for sure. But like you eluded the test is not scientific test with all variables equal. Ada guessed 10 lb before you did the brass pull test she was close. Here's one thing I'd like to see and Here's why. You remember how the brass broke much faster on the twist test than the picture cord....so I'd like to see three or four twist then then a break test , I'm curious but I think a couple of twist and the brass will break much easier just a theory lol. I've used brass for the past few years and this year I had a 50% fail rate , I can't compare to picture cord because I didn't use it. My grandfather who I snared with for years would only ever use picture cord but Here's the difference it was probably 10 strand maybe even 12 , I think the 6 is garbage to be honest. I had a long break away from snaring but years ago I used all picture cord .... again the heavier stuff....and it was rare to lose a rabbit maybe couple a year. But great test and it's hard to argue with your results lol Darrell will be our infield tester and I'm curious to see how he does because there were times last year he lost two and three a haul. The main thing is we don't get a pine marten lol Hope you have a great week and a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and Danika from Tucker and I and family.
@ your welcome I subscribed i’m going blind I love hunting and fishing too. Things is getting harder now my vision is really bad. I have to use a cane now. This will be my last year hunting It’s too hard. God bless
You might lose a rabbit on stainless wire but your percentage will be way lower than brass. I have used stainless wire for 35 years and not once have a caught a pine marten. Just a bunch of bs I say someone without a clue came up with this law. Labrador is aloud with stainless so should Newfoundland. And with the gas prices today I don’t feel like losing rabbits by having to use brass wire.
Your stainless slipped, you don’t have enough strength in you to break it. Brass is not even close to stainless in strength. I’m in Labrador and use all stainless and ive never see a broken snare like you do in nfld with brass.
@@Trent_Collins can’t deny the test results lol. Even if the stainless slipped, that’s the point at which the snare would fail at. That’s a lost bunny either way !!! Stainless is stronger long term 109% the better snare. But you can’t deny the results

I can agree. Stainless will always be best. The final test proved that. I’m interested to see how u do with pitchercord

Well done bud ! I’ll stick with good ole fashioned brass . Thanks for the comparison .
Thanks !
I will as well.

I don’t have a huge issue with brass to be honest.
I use brass, had them twist off sometimes not often.it's the coyotes here in ont that gets them
You need to do some twists and a strength test on the same piece of wire. A rabbit is twisting and pulling, not twisting or pulling.
That’s a good idea. I’ll have to do a test with every possible scenario soon
Try it with a kink in it
@@paulbishop5419 the test at the had kinks. When I synched the snare down it made kinks similar to a rabbit synching it down !
