Joy, I have a masters degree in education, and taught for 36 years before retiring...and let me tell you that you would have been an exceptional educator! Your instructions are clear, your intonation excellent, and your knowledge expert! Your sense of humor keeps us interested! ( and laughing). I love learning from you. Thank you so much for taking your time and sharing your expertise! I am getting the pattern tonight.❤️
What a precious comment to my heart! I always, always, always wanted to be a teacher growing up. In my family, boys went to college, and girls married boys who had been to college. My mother insisted we all learn to type and take shorthand though (olden days, lol), and I was really good at both. My siblings didn't do as well. My youngest sister said the teacher gave her a "D" because she felt sorry for her. I've always been a secretary but was able to teach and train a lot of employees when we owned our own business.
sorry to be so off topic but does any of you know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account? I stupidly lost my password. I appreciate any assistance you can give me!
@Roman Duncan thanks for your reply. I found the site through google and im in the hacking process now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Joy- I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your videos, and give you a big THANK YOU for making this video, especially. I recently got back into sewing since retirement and realized nothing I made before fit properly as I never did the alterations I really needed. I didn't even know they existed. Thank God for TH-cam and instructive videos like yours. I have learned so much, and this one has been the most helpful. THANK YOU! Love seeing your family and everyday activities too. So fun!
Joy, thank you for such a detailed tutorial, from the downloading of the pattern to the sewing tutorial! You are so incredibly generous with sharing your time and knowledge and so many of us appreciate you. What a wonder this entire little series has been. Thank you and God bless you!
Joy I wonder how many of the 1,000+ viewers are thinking she made this video just for me! After a 10 year break in sewing so much has changed. Down loading patterns, fitting for our measurements, this is fun but challenging. Your video included it all. From the bottom of my heart, Thank You!!!!! 💕
Wow. I can't wait to try this. Can't get into it right now because my husband had Aorta surgery through Christmas. Praise the Lord for letting us find the Aneurysm through another test. His aneurysm is called a widow maker. It was huge. 35 x 48 centimeters. That is longer than a foot. That was protruding from a 2 inch artery. Looked like a watermelon. Through the grace of God it was found. They put 2 stints in and he is recovering. So when we get him healed up, I promise I am going to try this. I want to start sewing my own tops. I'm built like a frog. lol Very hard to fit with store bought tops. All our women in the family are built bigger through the mid section. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. I got the biggest and best gift of all. My husband.
Joy, you are a great teacher, it seems to come so easy to you.You make everything so easy to understand and keep us laughing too. I know you say your not a teacher but you are. Thank you for the great tutorials.
Hi Joy. I've been enjoying your videos for some time now. Keep 'em coming. Now that I am retired I have more time to sew. You mentioned in a previous video of how fun it would be for the sewing TH-camrs to get together. I personally think that would be wonderful. There are sewing and quilting expos but one that featured the sewing TH-camrs sounds fantastic. I have never been to anything like that but I think it would be great fun to meet all the sewists. Thanks again.
Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge. I'm not new to sewing but am new to actually trying to make garments that fit. Can't say "thank you" enough for walking through both the pattern download and step by step process on making adjustments. Download complete, printed pattern complete, just have to tape it all together and get moving!
Joy, don't keep using your old printer. In August 2917 I bought an Epson 2550 printer that does NOT use ink cartridges. It comes with a tank that uses bottles of ink and I have not yet had to change or fill my tank. I use this printer everyday and around the holidays I print constantly. I love this printer and I can promise you it works and does not cost like other printers. It costs more up front about $250 but the ink refills cost $18 and I have used this printer for 30 months without refilling. Just thought you might like to know.
My goodness, my goodness! You are such an exceptionally good teacher! My heavens you should have been a teacher. I believe this is THE BEST teaching video I have ever seen in my life....I'm not joking. What a blessing you are to those of us who follow you. Not only did you take the time to search out a FREE pattern for ladies to use, then you have taken valuable time to detail how to download the pattern, and begin adjusting the pattern. You should be Blessed beyond measure for your generosity. Joy, you are such a treasure. Sending you a virtual hug though the computer. Happy New Year!
I can't tell you how much you've helped me with this pattern and downloading it. I've been a quilter for over 40 years and I'm just now wanting to get sewing on clothing. Between you and Viv and Becky, there is always something new to learn that's brought in a very concise way. Thank you so much and keep up the good work
You are such a JOY to learn from. I downloaded this pattern after watching this just so I can come back and follow you. Thank you. I'm going to have a cuppa while I read the instructions :-))
Love, Love, Love. Thank you. I learned to do this years and years ago and have totally forgotten everything. Love having you go step by step and Thank you for the Free pattern! Can't wait to see how yours turns out!
I found same page few years back and YT clean them out from my memory .... somebody mention them on video what I watch with free paterns and I reconise her . She is so funny 😃 when she explain some subjects . She is very carefull abd do not skip any important details like you abd GLenda . I start my day watching you when I eat breackfast ..then during cooking and lunch .
Thank you so much for reviewing this pattern Joy, I have it printed off and will piece it together tomorrow, also I will attempt to do the fba, never tried this before so will be a learning curve for me, you certainly made it look like it will be possible for me to accomplish, fingers crossed. Thank you so much.x
I finally updated my iPad and can post how much I enjoy your channel and thank you for your inspiration, enthusiasm and encouragement to sew and create! Thank you so much!
Joy, your name fits you so well. I so enjoy your videos and you are a wonderful, talented teacher. You have a special gift and I thank you for all that I learn from you. God Bless You!
DITTO cindi kallas' comment. THE BEST tutorial ever, thank you so much Joy for the computer section. This for me, has always been the missing info. Many thanks Angela UK
I loved the end, you are so cute. That is the best instruction video Joy, you really get your point across. I wasn't going to do this top but now that you have done this video, I'm in! Thank you I look forward to your videos.
I agree with Cindi, you are an awesome educator! I am printing this out even as I type! Thank you so much for sharing. You are such JOY to watch and learn from.
Cheers to you Joy. I have printed pdf patterns for a few years now. I knew there was something about layers & Acrobat but that was it. You explained clearly what, where & when to print the pattern in the size needed. Bouquets to you. Thank you.
I love DIBY. The lady on the front is the designer. She also does videos to help you with patterns. I'm so glad you found them. I am looking forward to making this top with you. Thanks!
I stopped vid to tell you from my phone your hair looks thick! I used to have tons so wear shorter layered to shoulders to curl or in small 😞 ponytail. Have had lighter blond highlights for most of 50 yrs. It recently grew out darker shocking my grown kids. Lucky almost no gray so back to more blond so you can't see my scalp much. Life is weird - my 33 yr old lost most of his very light blond hair so he grew a full darker beard. Anyway you always look so pretty and perky in your cool clothes. Happy healthy new year to you and your cutie hubby. 🎉😍 love your vids and so much info. Susan
I love your enthusiasm, Joy! Unfortunately now I lack in patience and willingness to even put those papers together. I love to watch you and I think that a video with Lauren would be a delight for me at least. I cleaned my sewing space and found so much unused fabric, but of course nothing to be used in such a pattern. I cleaned my closet and threw away a few garments I made on my own the past three years thinking of you to get courage to do it. I kept the two toppers and the pants though.. I even threw those bad ones over my shoulder , the way you dispense the faulty ones, to make it easier and more fun :)) Happy New Year, Joy! Happy New Year, everybody in this community! I love you all for being so kind in words with Joy and each other!
Diby.club and most pdf patterns has a printable version that you can send out to have the pattern printed if you don't want to deal with printing and taping it at home.
Hi Joy. I just taped my pattern together and it matches up to perfection. The way you do it is put the first paper down, then line up the second piece against the grey line on the first piece. Keep going until the row is done. Then do the same for the second and third row. Then take the second row that’s all taped together, and line it up to the grey line on the bottom of the first row all the way across. Do the same with the third row. It lines up exactly and there’s no need to use scissors. All you need is tape. I hope this helps.
Exited about this project. You mention that you have take patterns to print at your local shop and they don't know how. Similar to me in Office Depot. Now I use a web site pdfplotting.com, they have pattern printing in color and black and white. I always use A0 (zero) format; all my download pdf patterns have this particular option. I just select the third option, select the amount of pages the file have and upload the file. PRESTO! is done. Black and white is just $1.39. No printing 20 pages, trim and tape, all that is time consuming Their delivery is quick and their customer service is their for you. My first time ordering made several calls they was very helpful. Thank you I enjoy your videos
Thank you so much for telling us about this pattern and the step-by-step instructions on how to print out my size. Amazingly, this free ABB pattern fits me very good with only minor corrections. By the way, I dislike the term “sewist” too.
I’m heading to our office to print this pattern right now. I haven’t worked with knits much at all so I’ll be following along with you. You make learning fun 😊❤️
Regarding "No trim" - the DIBY website have a video showing how to do. I just had to trim one single place for better viewing of pattern. Thanks a lot for the tip of this free pattern which made me get the download and working on the FBA rigth now :-)
When it said to measure the vertical distance between bust points. It did not mean measure from point to point, but rather measure only the up-and-down distance ignoring the left-to-right difference.
Thank you for showing all that. I am not a garment sewer but I would love to make this top. So I am going to go on the Website and print the pattern and instructions and watch your videos for the adjustments and sewing it together. I hope you are going to show the whole construction.
Thank you for your easy to follow tutorials. I've just discovered you and look forward to following your channel. But please, tell us about that beautiful quilt top you have on your design board! I adore it!
I read Cindi Kallas"s after writing my comment. We both said the samething, so Joy stop saying you're not a teacher because you are. a little secret, you don't have to be college educated to teach, all you need is the ability to impart information in away it is easily understood .
Thank you so much for the excellent how to video. You can still place the back on the fold? Could you please show us the how to on that. I’m not sure what to match up and what not to worry about. So much appreciate you.
Joy. The top you are wearing in this vlog is absolutely fabulous. You look wonderful in it. Did you make it? I'm very late for the party but finally found time to catch up with your videos. One free pattern has now been downloaded. Bet DIBY are wondering what the heck had happened. Chuckle. 👍😍😍
Thank you Micheline. I've been enjoying your videos so much. So fun to watch all the Christmas ones and then France. Yes, I made that top. It is one I've made over and over. Probably used the Fit Nice System pattern for that one with the FBA moved down into the bottom. Not really sure.
Thank u thank u, for telling us where to get the free pattern, I’ve looked several times for the free patterns but could not find. Again thank you. That is on the Fitnicesystem but will sure ck out the ABB tee also.
Ok Joy hopefully this will be my last comment. I was looking at the instructions. Diby.club had a link to check out which I did. They showed how to line up there pattern pieces. You don't cut any of then pages. She said don't worry if the sides of the paper doesn't line up because sometimes the printer doesn't feed in the paper evenly. Line up everything on the lines and over lap the circle until the paper makes the X on both sides. If you want to watch the video...the link is on the 1st page or you can just search for them on TH-cam. Hope this helps any newbies like myself😊.
Hi Joy, I would describe myself as an advanced beginner seamstress.....but I’m having a problem with this pattern. It gaped badly at the armhole and event though I have never put in a FBA (and my bust and pattern size were the same), I put in a .5 inch FBA to see if it would correct the gaping. It did somewhat however, the armhole still gapes. Do I need a larger FBA (say .75 inches) or do I need to pivot closed the gaping? I have not put in the sleeves but am still working with the pattern-ease “garment”. I appreciate your tutorial on this T and am looking forward to a perfect fit! Thanks, Mary B.
Hello Joy. I am a newbie to your channel. Where have I been all these years! I will download the pattern and sew along with you. Please could you say which pattern did you use for the top you are wearing. Many thank.
Joy....you may have already answered this question but I missed it if so. Do you use regular Scotch Tape? I'm just now going to take my pattern together....I'm having to trim a tiny amount of the edge also. You are so fast at all of this...I realized when I was cutting off the edges I move like a turtle...lol. Thanks again for all your hard work in sharing every detail. Hugs.
This was GREAT Joy!!! I learned soooo much Thank You!!! Question sorry if it's a silly question, I'm a newbie.😖 How do you know if you have a Sway Back or a Round Back therefore need the adjustment? In ready to wear you just put your shirt on and go...you either like the fit or no.
If the side seam does not hang straight down, you may need a sway back correction. If you have a round back, you are always pulling your garment forward because it slips backwards on your shoulders. Most women have one due to computers.
HELP. Glad you reposted. I had to try and remember what you said to do earlier 👀. Unfortunately I printed out the pattern with all the sizes.😩😩. Should I reprint the pattern or try to find my size on the multi sized pattern? Ugh. The full bust adjustment makes more sense seeing you demonstrate that. I’m 38 in my bust and thought I would use size 10. Would I need to do a FBA? Would love to show you how it turns out.
Joy Bernhardt I didn’t catch your personal information. Glad you caught it. Do I need to do a FBA if I’m 38 in the full bust and using the size 10? Thanks
I haven't printed or bought anything yet, but by the look at all that colorful meandering lines , I would go ahead and print again the way Joy showed us for a lesser head ache.
Joy I did the round back adjustment and found I had to put a little pleat in the centre back because it stood out from my neck. Do you have this problem?
What a great video tutorial Joy!!! I am wondering however, do you have a good source for a FBA for a jacket or button down the front blouse? I really need your help!
Amazing tutorial! Tomorrow will set tablet next to computer and go step by step. I’m wondering if you can layer 3 sizes to print instead of one or all? Thank you so much!!!
Hi JoyHappy New Year to you and Jerry. I'm 34" (size4) high bust, 36" (size 6 full bust, 41" (size 10) Full Hip, What size should I print out please to make the Tee. I know I will have to make adjustments but what size do I start with Thank you for all your full Videos xxxxx
I would cut out the size with a 34" Bust because that will fit best above your bust. You may need to add to the waist and hip, but DIBY has lots of instruction on how to do that. You may need to print out 2 or 3 sizes so you will have the lines to go out to for your hip. Just "play" with it.
I still haven't been able to print out the pattern. I am just not getting how to get in the file or whatever. I have to wait till my daughter visits which will be along time. I can always enjoy watching. Thanks Joy you do well on everything you do and teach us and we are so lucky to have you do this for us. Thank you so much and God Bless you.
Ok I finally found out I had to download the reader on my lap top. Trying to print the pattern and when you are in something at the very top it has what % you want I put in 100 %, then did the print and all and it did not print hardly anything, I think it was too huge. I hit custom scale. I feel so dumb. I quilt for tonight, I am wasting paper and ink. At the top of the page it says on yours its 76%. I was making it 100%.
@@donnarichey144 Hi Donna which version of the print out are you trying to print? There are 3 different choices. If you are printing in a regular home printer you will select the one that says US letter. Either in Misses or Plus depending on what sizes you will need. But before you do all that, maybe you should read the pattern instructions if Joy's video didn't help you on how to only select your size etc before you begin. That is on page 1 of the instructions booklet so download those and review before you try and print the pattern again. I hope this 🤷🏾♀️, if not, feel free to message me and I will help you anyway I can.😊
@@donnarichey144 I forgot to mention on the printing, just select "Print to Actual Size". Print the 1st page only and verify that your test square printed out at 1" exactly!!! If it does, then you can deselect the sizes you don't need. Print only your size if that is what you want to do per Joys's recommendation and PRINT.
@@seamsuneven7824 I did the size 22, and I probably down loaded long and short sleeve not sure. I never saw a pattern like this. I am just confused how to put it together. It just looks like sheets of paper. I have some with the round circle on each corner. Thanks. I am used to patterns like simplicity and I haven't sewn in years.
@@donnarichey144 Hi Donna, what are you wanting to sew long or short sleeves? Piece the pattern together as you see it. Joy is making a short sleeve so that is what she showed. The sleeve shows 3 lengths for you to choose which one you want. You will have to cut it after you have taped it together. When you match the pages you will line A1, to A2 etc. and tape all the lines X's etc so the pattern meets the pattern will make more sense. If you look through the instructions there are links to diby.club on how they recommend you tape their pattern together. Did you read the instructions like I suggested in my previous reply? Their instructions are backed with videos that will walk you through as well.
Thanks so much, Joy, great tutorial!! After you do the sway and round back adjustments, do you use a back seam or just put the bank back and hem against the fold?
Joy, did you skip step five of the FBA? I did not notice you regrading the waist and hip line as shown in #2 and #3. See the illustration on bottom of page 22. I did see you regrading the hem line. 😊
I have a question: in the ABB Tee instructions it says to cut your pattern according to your UPPER BUST measurement? Is that what you did? My bust measurement is 37” and my UPPER BUST measurement is 34? See page 14 for cutting to upper bust size? Thank you Joy
@@Joy4650B Awesome! Thank you so much for your reply on TH-cam. I love them. I did go back and watch your FBA video again and I’m in the midst of putting my FBA ABB top together today. So far so good. The fit is perfect! Thank you again, Lisa Hasted

Ligia Moreno thanks for this tip, Lidia. I will be using it.
wow thanks for sharing... your very detail info has really help me... thanks again
Thank you so much for telling us about this pattern and the step-by-step instructions on how to print out my size. Amazingly, this free ABB pattern fits me very good with only minor corrections. By the way, I dislike the term “sewist” too.
Thank you so much Joy this is my first pattern ever
I’m heading to our office to print this pattern right now. I haven’t worked with knits much at all so I’ll be following along with you. You make learning fun 😊❤️
Love, love this video. I will get that pattern from DIBY. Thank you so much for your instructions😘😘😘😘😘
I just ordered my top along with two other free patterns. Thank you so much for sharing with us.
I am excited about the Dondi pattern I have it printed and will tape together tomorrow. And I will print instructions. Thank you for this.😊💗
thank you for all the help you are giving
Thank you for showing all that. I am not a garment sewer but I would love to make this top. So I am going to go on the Website and print the pattern and instructions and watch your videos for the adjustments and sewing it together. I hope you are going to show the whole construction.
Thank you for your easy to follow tutorials. I've just discovered you and look forward to following your channel.
But please, tell us about that beautiful quilt top you have on your design board! I adore it!
Thank you so much! Cannot wait to see the top when you are done.
Thank you so much for telling me about this fantastic website! I will definitely be checking it out. 🤗
I'm loving the Dondi top! I followed your link and the cost is 10 dollars, not free!
Thanks Joy! Great video! You explain everything so well! Love it! Looking forward to trying this! Happy New Year🥳
@@Joy4650B whichever method or pattern you used Joy I have to say it's extremely flattering on you. I can see why you made a few tips like that. 👍😍
Thank you Joy. You look like a pro.
Oh Joy, you are such a Joy!! LOL... With your size and adjustments, I think we have the same body!?!
Thank you for the excellent tutorial, Joy. Happy New Year!
I’ve gotten the pattern and can’t wait to try it! Excellent information, love your videos !
Awesome, thanks for sharing! I need to get some knit fabric and sew!
Hi, you are a grate teacher. Love your tutorials. HAPPY NEW YEAR, bleeped you.
Sorry. Blessed no bleeped
Thank u thank u, for telling us where to get the free pattern, I’ve looked several times for the free patterns but could not find. Again thank you. That is on the Fitnicesystem but will sure ck out the ABB tee also.
Thank you for showing this
Thank you so much Joy, can't wait to get started. Happy New Year to all!
Thank you so much Joy I will definitely make this top. With your help and wonderful explanations it will be a breeze. 🤗♥️
Happy New Year to you !🥂
Happy New Year, Joy! You have inspired me to try making this. So far I have totally failed at making clothes. They never fit or look right.
Yes, I know you COULD do it that way, but I like to see it all. I will go watch that though. Thank you.
Joy to the world!
Wow that was a lot of information, I loved it, thank you .
Great information, thank you.i can hardly wait to see your top.
Joy I got lost sorry I can follow your but I’m a donut it time I went to bed I live fab,s but yours is easy to follow see you tomorrow luv teresa
Hello Joy. I am a newbie to your channel. Where have I been all these years! I will download the pattern and sew along with you. Please could you say which pattern did you use for the top you are wearing. Many thank.
Thank you so much for this video!
Thanks for the pattern info.
Joy, I love the shirt you have on. What is that pattern? Just finished my first LDT.
Gosh Joy, I had to pause you and go get this pattern. I will start printing tomorrow.
I'm sorry I had to take it off. My address and email were showing in a clip, and I had to edit that out. Yes, much easier to print only one size.
Joy Bernhardt I didn’t catch your personal information. Glad you caught it. Do I need to do a FBA if I’m 38 in the full bust and using the size 10? Thanks
@@dimples7334 What is the bust size for the Size 10?
Joy Bernhardt 38 bust
I haven't printed or bought anything yet, but by the look at all that colorful meandering lines , I would go ahead and print again the way Joy showed us for a lesser head ache.
Thank you!
Joy I did the round back adjustment and found I had to put a little pleat in the centre back because it stood out from my neck. Do you have this problem?
thank you this was very interesting and helpful
What a great video tutorial Joy!!! I am wondering however, do you have a good source for a FBA for a jacket or button down the front blouse? I really need your help!
So what do you do after page on? Just hit on 1-29 pages?
Amazing tutorial! Tomorrow will set tablet next to computer and go step by step. I’m wondering if you can layer 3 sizes to print instead of one or all? Thank you so much!!!
Sure. Open the eyes on the three sizes you want, and the lines will all print out.
Thank you so much for your help. Will try that xxxxxx
It still goes on the fold. Line up top point and bottom point with the fold. Ignore the rest.
@@Joy4650B Thanks Joy!
@@Joy4650B thank you!
Joy, did you skip step five of the FBA? I did not notice you regrading the waist and hip line as shown in #2 and #3. See the illustration on bottom of page 22. I did see you regrading the hem line. 😊
I knew there was enough room in the hip and waist. I measured to be sure.
I've learned so much!
Thank u joy your so awesome
A4 vs standard letter. USA only uses standard letter (8 1/2 x 11) and most other countries use A4 (8.27 x 11.7)
Oh I forgot, A4 is UK paper size I believe. If you want to do copy shop, PDF plotting is great and affordable. You email and they ship it quickly.
Thanks for that tip.
This was so much fun. Thank you very much.
I have a question: in the ABB Tee instructions it says to cut your pattern according to your UPPER BUST measurement? Is that what you did? My bust measurement is 37” and my UPPER BUST measurement is 34? See page 14 for cutting to upper bust size? Thank you Joy
Yes. I always use my upper bust measurement so the shoulders and upper chest area will be correct for my body. That is EXACTLY WHY I always do an FBA.
@@Joy4650B Awesome! Thank you so much for your reply on TH-cam. I love them. I did go back and watch your FBA video again and I’m in the midst of putting my FBA ABB top together today. So far so good. The fit is perfect!
Thank you again,
Lisa Hasted
Joy I forgot to add, beautiful pic of you on your laptop🙂.
