@@sophiawilliams8650 Well you can’t miss if you don’t shoot. It got to the point he wouldn’t even look at the basket in the 4th quarter against the Hawks
I had this same problem through middle school, I was by far the teams leading stealer and defensive player. Where my team and the crowd would have to scream slow down and I would literally sprint and hop jump to a tiny jump shot. It worked.
It’s so cool that Matisse knows who George Mikan is. Mikan was slow, couldn’t jump but had great footwork and was strong as a bull. He’d do great in today’s game (think Jokic or Deandre Ayton). Clearly Thybulle loves basketball, and so do I. Now I’ll be watching for him in 21-22!
When I was playing basketball in school I used to steal a lot but miss layups too. So, I quitted basketball 😅 However, my height was another important factor in my decision (I'm 5'10" now).
I had the same issue when I played ball, of course no where near his level. But I do understand where he came from when he said he couldn’t control his speed and finesse, being a smaller but fast guard myself. I could shoot fine and everything else but I would miss layups, especially the wide open ones and it ultimately became a mental hurdle over everything else. I make my layups now but I did mirror that fear he had at some point. I think it had everything to do with height and overcompensating momentum and strength when laying up.
I used to do the same exact thing, had no body control and would get so nervous everyone was watching me, when I was in elementary school I would get the ball in basketball and literally just toss up 3 pointers from half court just cause i didn’t want the ball in my hands, I was just a pass machine and my dad would get so mad at me “shoot the damn ball” LMAO
Seattle!!! Represent all day!! Also, had some kind of mental block with layups too in the 6th grade lol. The ball would slam off the backboard. Everybody would be on the floor laughing. Lmao. Its some kind of ptsd lmao.
I actually know exactly what he's talking about. I was pretty fast and got steals often, i would be going so fast I had to just float the ball straight up and let momentum bounce it in. Somehow was doin that brain trigonometry in 6th grade.

Happened to me all the time. Still does from time to time. You just get that crazy adrenaline rush when you’re running full speed after a stop and you just want to jump through the roof of the gym.
