Hi Sam your content in this video is very Raw to us this week with the daughter in law sitting on a stool weeding this week in her OWN GARDEN when a dog WHICH WAS ON A LEAD came around her gatepost and sunk its teeth into the top of her arm !!! Like yourselves we have 3 small grandchildren and God forbid that could have been one of them... A MINORITY OF DOG OWNERS are bringing the majority into disrepute, the animal has now been reported to the authorities along with its owner... Also devastated for you with the loss of your stock, its ( to me) like the loss of a harvest to some growing farmers, lastly I agree with others get a control knob online for the pressure washer, you can't cut corners with machinery.. Great content again thanks..

hi sam sorry about the sheep and cow and calf my.dad lost 5 sheep and 6 lambs through two dogs out of control but me and dad had guns waited the next day. saw the dogs two of.them and.we shot them and got the police through owner of the gods kicked off me and left the police to deal with the owner because my dad had a vishus temper
Do you put heifers to smaller bulls to prevent issues from too large calves? Also, do you do necropsies at all to determine if it’s toxaemia or other issues that kill off both cow and calf?
It's no dif. here in the states when it comes to country living and dealing with ignorance in dog owners who find it perfectly acceptable to walk the dog in the country without a lead on. This is why people who live in the country don't want animals running lose and causing chaos. My all time pet peeve is letting your dog out to run all night, while it does stuff like this, chases and mauls deer and goes after neighbors. I'm so sorry that you had to deal with losing the cow, calf and now, this. I know what it means to the pocketbook.

Sorry that you’re having a bad week,as you say that’s farming it happens everywhere some people should not have dogs Keep your chin up keep the videos coming 👍👍👍
Unfortunately unless someones been born, raised, or spent SIGNIFICANT amounts of time in farming areas they don't necessarily not care about livestock, they're just ignorant to what their actions can do. Mind you, thats absolutely NO excuse for letting pets run wild. It's similar to moving to a completely different geographic region. People moving from the mountains to the ocean have no idea how dangerous the water can get until they've lived there awhile. People moving from the ocean to the mountains have no idea what to do with woodland predators. And if they're just on vacation, they're not staying long enough to worry about learning any of that. Im thankful i grew up with school trips to dairy farms and wool producers. I was taught about how hard it can be for those who do your work, and how much you rely on your animals. Im sorry not everyone gets those lessons, and when they do its at your loss
Mate that sucks with the dog! I've only ever seen border collies herd sheep. That's shocking aye! He will pay for the poor sheep? He won't know the cost of extra time lost with the orphan lambs. Well I wanna see them so You got a new sub here ❤ from 🇦🇺
Hi Sam hope olly got paid for the sheep and sorted the man out he seemed a bit clew less at least you show everything that's happening on farm's dayly people need to know and understand
I'm so sorry. Some people shouldn't own dogs. We actually went on a holiday, which was in the same sort of situation. A cottage in the middle of a farm. We have 3 dogs, a working cocker spaniel, a staffie lurched cross, and a border collie cross bearded collie. There was a fence around the garden but the sheep were right there. Now our dogs didn't show any interest in the sheep, but, being RESPONSIBLE dog owners, we leashed our dogs, obviously while walking, but even when just in the garden. Just in case. We understood that those sheep were the livelihood of the farmer, so we respected that and kept our dogs away from them. It's not hard!!!! That dog owner should compensate you. I also can't bear to think about the pain and fear that poor sheep went through. Absolutely horrendous. I'm so so sorry.
Hi Sam I’ve just found this Chanel and gonna subscribe sorry bout the loses did you try to go the guy to pay for the sheep his dog killed and I hope things go a little smoother soon
@@Sam-shutt That is good. My sister is having trouble here in Kentucky. U.S.A. with a neighbor that keeps letting his pit bull dog run loose and attack her dog. Irresponsible ownership of dogs behavior is so hard to deal with, especially when there are laws here against dogs and free roaming, leash laws.
Dogs are bred to hunt? Nope, Border Collies are bred to work. A border collie that ends up as a pet needs at the very least a 4 hour walk every single day. And if it’s out in the country, it needs to be on a lead. It’s not the dogs fault, it’s never the dogs fault, this is the fault of the owner, can’t control his dog, can’t give his dog the exercise it needs, clearly doesn’t know what a lead is. Shame on him, not the dog, dog was doing what it was bred for (except untrained for sheep & basic obedience it would seem)
@@julzcarpenter5431 there natural instinct is to hunt. Notice how most of them walk while eye on a sheep. ?? Creeping... Hunting action. And we train that hunting instinct to work. And have it under control. Yes owners fault

I was going to suggest the wrong bull. We liked to use an Angus on heifers as they are a shorter gestation and usually pop out like bullets. I am guessing the heifers are also big arsed Belgian Blue X which doesn’t help. We got on really well with Hereford x British Friesian suckler cows. They were cheap to buy in as calves and rear on. They milked really well and crossed well with a Limousin after the first Angus calving. Sorry you had to suffer the anguish of dog worrying. What the general public also will not appreciate is that farm collies are usually left in a secure place where you will know where they are. A keen well trained Border Collie will sheep worry left to its own devices. I hope the owner paid up. II will try to advertise you on other farmy channels because yours really does have a lot more interest than most. I am surprised Cammy didn’t give you a plug when he came to do a bit of shearing. Just a thought, if the holiday cottage id accessed through your yard, what about putting up a notice in BIG asking to keep any dogs on a lead at all times in sheep country.
Yes a sign would be helpful. Cammy yes that would of been great! But I don't like asking and I don't mingle like the rest 🤣 I don't go anywhere or socialise so it's a bit more difficult to get seen and heard. But I don't mind. Iam geting there slowly. Thankyou glad you find us interesting that's a relief. Yes he payed some compensation so iam glad. These heifers calving are out of dairy cows that we bought as a weaned calf. So not verry arsey milk well !
you show the good and the bad side of farming, this week you guys are down a considerable amount of money, it would be hoped the owner paid up, bad owners and nowadays everyone feels entitled to do just what they want, surely that is a reportable offence terrible times. you are educating your children on life and death which i think is good. need some happy videos now
Hi Sam I know it’s not the point but I hope they are going to pay for the sheep & to pay the guy to take it away & cover the cost of raising the two lambs
Hi Sam was born and bread in country but now live in city for my sins know your neck of the woods well used to work in leyburn I’m sorry to say I think things will only get worse more and more city people coming into the countryside and don’t care there are videos on here of people with dogs and boomboxes having parties which are not good for livestock hope you survive the dickheads
That sucks I have a Rottweiler a American bulldog and a working line German shepherd all great with stock I wouldn’t walk them on someone else land of lead it’s just not worth it
Sorry about your loss but on your heifers why not try AI and synchronised heats with a easy calving bull I am sure the cost would be a lot less than dead calves cost of removal and replacements and nd ai and vet fees the same as you have already paid. As I had trouble with dogs I turned my farm in to a golf course much more profitable but still same problems with general public and dogs was in your shoes forty plus years ago
Not hard for dogs to be on a lead around livestock and roads. Maybe look into livestock guardian dogs, unsure if breeders are around in the Uk but maybe take a look to try and deter dogs, foxes and badgers. They can be trained to care for the specific livestock they have around their farm but the instinct to guard and protect is natural. I am sorry for your loss, Its always hard to loose animals. 🩷🩵
how you sam. im so sorry that you have had to go through the bad things of loosing animals. oliver, this includes you as well. the dog incident. no. you should not have to go through that at all. public right of way. okay. but. big but . they really have to realise that they should be one hundred per cent in control of their animals when around others. i dont know how oliver didnt get more annoyed. whos out of pocket. whos got to pay again for the pickup and disposal of it. whos not gonna get payed for the loss. i dont know how you and farmers can make it clear to joe public that this is not what you do around farms and animals. sorry you two . i think its very annoying and negative of society. let oliver see the comments. but it should not happen. sorry for the rant.
Thats tough going Sam but as you said that's farming,Dog attack could have been avoided, nothing as bad,but dog owners will tell you it's a pet ,my dog would not do that. Really maddening
Have to say that sheep in the stram didn't look like it had any injuries or blood on it and the dog was clean and didn't appear to have been chasing anything it was perfectly relaxed and that's not what ive seen with worrying the sheep usually are black with being on the ground when the dog attacked and the dogs are usually much the same and usually look absolutely knackered
When you don’t know the circumstances its better not to make judgemental statements, re the possibilities. The devil as always is in the detail and this is a very disheartening story.
@@forplan1 well ive been involved in sheep for 50 years and never seen a clean sheep that had been worried to death and you also left the viewers assuming the dog had something to do with the death of the cow as well when the dog was never near the cow so.make sure you post the correct stories as well or people will not know the correct circumstances
Sorry, where there's livestock there's deadstock is a cop out. Using a heifer bull and calling the vet in a timely manner saves the lives of cows and calves. It is actually your fault and convincing yourself it isn't doesn't incentivize yourself to do better. Please don't teach your children that stupid saying. There needs to be huge fines for dog owners who let their dogs run livestock.Saying "bad dog" doesn't cut it, but having to pay a £2,000.00 fine for a first offense and £10,000 for the second offense will make people think twice. Half the fine should go directly to the farmer for compensation.
@vwvw4 It is our fault . Yes as we are farming the livestock. And if you look in the next video I save 2 lives by calling the vet. We called the vet to calve this cow, and she did. But the cow not making it isn't our fault we did everything we could.???

I totally agree with you, and I own 4 dogs. My small fluffy dog has 1 of the highest prey drive 🐕💕
Great content again thanks..
aw im so sorry about the animals, my dog has been around sheep for about 4 months now, she’s a Staffordshire bull terrier, first week with them she chased them a bit, then calmed down loads. people SHOUKD really keep their dogs on leads
Sorry for your loss. I'm wondering, have you ever had issues with hunting dogs going after your stock?
Please teach your kids how to be kind to animals dead or alive not puting the foot on a dead cow or thinking about riding.... this is awful ....
@nickys855 kids will be kids she must of thought it was a horse 🤣🤣😉
hi sam sorry about the sheep and cow and calf my.dad lost 5 sheep and 6 lambs through two dogs out of control but me and dad had guns waited the next day. saw the dogs two of.them and.we shot them and got the police through owner of the gods kicked off me and left the police to deal with the owner because my dad had a vishus temper
Readie is actually my dad, if you have any questions about what happens to the cows and everything at the knackers yard I’m happy to answer, couldn’t believe seeing his wagon haha
@hjread111098 thanks ! Be interesting
Hi Sam sorry about your cow and 2 calves . Congratulations on your new baby girl great video I in Co. Cavan Ireland I farm cows and sheep
@@MarkMcDonald-f7x thankyou 😄I love Ireland!!!
I’m so sorry about your cow and calf. Heartbreaking.
The people that do not keep their dogs on a lead will get mad if you tell them to do so.
Again sam genuinely true farming as i said Rebecca miss her so much she would be bloody savage but as you say life and death in the world x
@DavidGadsby-e6s yes we're there is life there is death. Her memories will last in you forever so she lives on.💪💗 chin up x
Hi Sam, a difficult few days for you. The dead ewe is annoying but to find the cow dead is heartbreaking. I know how you all feel, loosing a cow is awful. Anyway, all the best
@@SuperTone35 these things happen once they want to give up there's no helping them ! Thanks
It's 160euro in South Ireland 🇮🇪 for dead cows 🐄 Samantha dear good video pet as always hope new baby 👶 is doin good n ur looking well to dear lady kind regards from Mr valtra Ireland 🇮🇪 😅
@AdoKehoe Mr valtra 🤣🤣 what a man. Bit more than us then? I think. Thankyou and she's doing great 😃😃
Little Angus bull for heifers only Sam
Sorry that you’re having a bad week,as you say that’s farming it happens everywhere some people should not have dogs
Keep your chin up keep the videos coming 👍👍👍
@@aidanelliott6228 yes these things happen no point dwelling on them .
👏👏👏 Well said
Mate that sucks with the dog! I've only ever seen border collies herd sheep. That's shocking aye! He will pay for the poor sheep? He won't know the cost of extra time lost with the orphan lambs. Well I wanna see them so You got a new sub here ❤ from 🇦🇺
@pascalswager9100 ah lovely thankyou! And welcome to the mad House,🤣🤣 it's shocking all breeds do it. !
Kids learn about life early on the farm. Sorry for the loss.
Yes, shame though that they’re being taught to just replace an animal instead of being able to be sad/mourn
That’s a tough one with the cow and calf but then the dog worrying some dog owners haven’t got a clue it makes me 🤬
Sam it’s bad hope he’s a man and pays up I no it’s not right I watch you to graft ya cobs off ❤
Hi Sam hope olly got paid for the sheep and sorted the man out he seemed a bit clew less at least you show everything that's happening on farm's dayly people need to know and understand
@traceyrobinson7554 absolutely that's what our channel is all about real life 🙌
I'm so sorry.
@Agrijack101 thankyou much appreciated 👏 yes he gave us a little compensation. Ups and downs but have to carry on 💪💪
How do dog owners keep letting their owners loose on others property!!!Can you sue for the value of the sheep??
@@TheLamba444 he paid a little compensation and hopefully learnt his lesson!
That comes from a hunting instinct the collies hearding style comes down from a wolf stalking it’s prey
@@shyshy07 rubbish, dogs are not and never were - wolves, that’s like saying that domestic cats are close in dna to lions (they’re not, but they are close in DNA to tigers) pet/working dogs evolved from wild dogs.
@@julzcarpenter5431 So what, wild dogs & wild cats aren’t hunters then?
And Oliver
so sorry for your losses , did the dog owner at least pay you for your murdered ewe?
They did pay some compensation yes.
I do not have a sheep dog but the first thing I do when I take my dog on a walk threw the farmers feild is put my dog in the lead but most importantly I would never go threw the fields if they have their live stock because of them chances of this happening no fair this is ridiculous and if I was you I’d be requesting something to be done about this contact the cottage owners whom rent get them removed for this reason without refund xxxxxx
I'm so sorry bout the calf and cow😢. People please subscribe, just hit that button and thumbs up! Maybe we can help them buy a new cow😊. A nice word or two will help in the commit section. A lot are watching but not hitting the thumbs up❤❤❤❤
@cheryldowner4834 Thank you! Much appreciated
im not going to ask where peter is taking that wool but make sure he sees a recent certificate for the scales theirs a few collection centres where the scales are not correct
Okay !👍 thanks
You have good bb
Hahahahahahahhahahahahaha😅😅😅😅😅
Nothing worse than an untrained collie.
get a new pressure washer and make sure its a hot washer the time you save and the hot wash kills all the bugs too
Hi sam.oh my god but ye had a bad week on the farm. unfortunately these things happen but hopefully thats the end of it.hope the owner of the dog gave oliver a few pound for the loss of the sheep but i guess he didnt.hopefully its onwards and upwards for ye.take care.and the 85% of people thats hasnt subscribed hit that button now for sam.come on
Awh thankyou hopefully get a few more subs ! Slowly geting there ! Yes these things happen all the time. No point dwelling on it.
You need to update your channel info to show five children now that wee Sheila is here...
@jimmyjohnstone5878 oh yes ! Thanks for reminding me 🤣
I was going to suggest the wrong bull.
Plus you will get a vet bill on top of everything
you show the good and the bad side of farming, this week you guys are down a considerable amount of money, it would be hoped the owner paid up, bad owners and nowadays everyone feels entitled to do just what they want, surely that is a reportable offence terrible times. you are educating your children on life and death which i think is good. need some happy videos now
Belgium blue cows love pure or crossed narrow in pelvis dont blame the bull I wont have one on the place iv heard lot of horror stories
Hi Sam I know it’s not the point but I hope they are going to pay for the sheep & to pay the guy to take it away & cover the cost of raising the two lambs
Did the dog owner pay for the ewe and deadstock guy to pick it up?
@@Dennismelnychuk he compensated a little yes 👍
👍
Hi Sam was born and bread in country but now live in city for my sins know your neck of the woods well used to work in leyburn I’m sorry to say I think things will only get worse more and more city people coming into the countryside and don’t care there are videos on here of people with dogs and boomboxes having parties which are not good for livestock hope you survive the dickheads
I have ❤❤❤❤
That is the disasters of using big bulls.
@Far9960 he's not a big bull. Heifers first time calving and they have narrow pelvis
O man that some mess did sheep.
That sucks I have a Rottweiler a American bulldog and a working line German shepherd all great with stock I wouldn’t walk them on someone else land of lead it’s just not worth it
😢
Sorry about your loss but on your heifers why not try AI and synchronised heats with a easy calving bull I am sure the cost would be a lot less than dead calves cost of removal and replacements and nd ai and vet fees the same as you have already paid. As I had trouble with dogs I turned my farm in to a golf course much more profitable but still same problems with general public and dogs was in your shoes forty plus years ago
❤
I hope the dog owner compensated you for your loss?
Not hard for dogs to be on a lead around livestock and roads.
Maybe look into livestock guardian dogs, unsure if breeders are around in the Uk but maybe take a look to try and deter dogs, foxes and badgers. They can be trained to care for the specific livestock they have around their farm but the instinct to guard and protect is natural.
I am sorry for your loss, Its always hard to loose animals.

Sorry Sam, wish people would smarten up. I hope you can replace your cow and sheep. So sad, again sorry.

how you sam. im so sorry that you have had to go through the bad things of loosing animals. oliver, this includes you as well. the dog incident. no. you should not have to go through that at all. public right of way. okay. but. big but . they really have to realise that they should be one hundred per cent in control of their animals when around others. i dont know how oliver didnt get more annoyed. whos out of pocket. whos got to pay again for the pickup and disposal of it. whos not gonna get payed for the loss. i dont know how you and farmers can make it clear to joe public that this is not what you do around farms and animals. sorry you two . i think its very annoying and negative of society. let oliver see the comments. but it should not happen. sorry for the rant.
Dog shouldn't be aloud to walk lose!
shocking stuff
But reality....
😩

Bad vet advice
