This was part of the prelude of our wedding more than 50 years ago by my beloved organ teacher, R. Rice Nutting. It is incredibly sweet to have one of our sons stumble across this performance and link it to us, as in "Hey, Dad, Hey, Mum, listen to THIS!"
My maiden name was Van Curen, from Van Köln. My umpty great grandfather was a principal partner in the Dutch West Indies Company. I visitedThe Netherlands when I was ten and visited Keukenhof - such a beautiful country! Danke sehr!
Another excellent performance, with a quality recording and great virtuosity on the part of the organist. The organ sound is exceptional and the tempo, very well chosen, brings a lot of dynamism and joy. The phrasing is perfect, and you feel uplifted by Bach's music. In short, an enchantment. I hope to reach this level one day, but I have work to do... Many thanks to the NBS ! This performance brightened my day !
Wahrlich genialer Organist!
Johann Sebastian Bach-composer, organist master, kapellmeister, master of polyphony, author of over a thousand music pieces and the great balancer of tonalities. (Joke from “Stradivaly” channel).
"On the spur of the moment I began to play Bach's chorale Nun danket alle Gott. I resounded through the ruins to the outside. More and more of my men climbed into the battered church, followed by old women and children, who knelt on the ground and quietly prayed. My men were not ashamed of their tears." ~ German colonel Hans von Luck in Rittershoffen, January 1945
Excellent performance which gives us the opportunity to hear this chorale as if we followed it reading the musical notes and penetrating Bach's true intentions in this arrangement. Bravo! Thanks for uploading, NBS.
Victor Hanson Davis tells the story of a Wehrmacht officer (Panzer Commander Hans Von Luck) playing this piece on an organ in a bombed out church on the French border in December 1944. Davis observed that Luck saw no disconnect between fighting for nazi Germany and playing Bach. Bach wrote the churchiest church music of all time.

What are the markings on the keys? I don't think I have ever seen this before.
¿Qué relación exiwste entre la coral BWV 657 y la célebre coral alemana "Nun danket alle Got", tambein llamada "el coral de Leuthen"?
👌

The keys look shocked

Just decoration, as far as I know. Schnitger, Hinsz, and others did that sometimes.
