  • Emma came to our center to correct her Class III bite that caused functional problems and low self-esteem. In our center, Dr. Hernandez Alfaro performed a bimaxillary surgery that consisted of advancement, centering, and counterclockwise rotation of the mandible, and advancement, centering, and impaction of the maxilla. Now Emma has gained in quality of life and she feels much more confident in her image.

    Her profile improved, but after 1 year and 3 months recovery, from the front, it looks like her nose widened and the philtrum area also became more prominent. Is there a way to prevent that for future patients?

    Is the removal of wisdom teeth necessary for double jaw surgery? It seems like all the cases have their wisdom teeth missing before surgery.

      I've seen it done, but there is an increased risk of complication. Ensure you are with a great surgeon. 👍

    Do patients need to pay extra if they want to fix TMJ as well?

    • @InstitutoMaxilofacialBarcelona
      @InstitutoMaxilofacialBarcelona  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's no such a thing as paying "extra". You will be quoted according to your treatment plan.

    I have some questions please, How do jaws connect after they're moved? what do u use?
    Can they chew, move their jaws comfortably like before?

    • @InstitutoMaxilofacialBarcelona
      @InstitutoMaxilofacialBarcelona  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are fixated with titanium plates and then the bone regenerates filling the gaps. After healing is complete they can chew as before surgery.

    Why does her mandible look so much wider and more defined? On the animation it doesn't look like the width of the jaw actually changes at all between the gonions.

    • @InstitutoMaxilofacialBarcelona
      @InstitutoMaxilofacialBarcelona  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That visual effect might be due to the counterclockwise rotation, but the mandible is not wider.

    If she dont stop her tongue thrusting the teeth then she'll again get the openbite

    • @bunb8541
      @bunb8541 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Her teeth are now much more forward so her tongue has more space.

    • @Dellisola
      @Dellisola 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bunb8541 yeah it is, but i don't think she has fixed her thrust myofunctionally, people with openbite push on their teeth which causes the openbite in the first place, if she has fixed her swallowing pattern then she will retain her new face. Correct swallowing is to push on the palate of the mouth, suck to collect food or saliva and push to swallow, this will eventually and slowly widen the palate and move the maxilla upwards and forwards.
