I have 14 hens, and 2 roosters. My boys are brothers, who have always loved each other. I've never seen them fight more than a mild spar, and they rarely do that, although they are about 5 months old, and one of them is an aggressive mater.
I had 3 brothers they were good boys always stayed by their mothers side for 2 or 3 years then one day the mother was killed by a dog. The brothers stuck together for maybe a year then 1 of them was injured one day . He was exiled and kept to himself couldn't catch him and found him dead few days later. Never seen them fighting but another brother was found really injured a month later . By this point they had chicks and there was a rooster . Everything was fine for 2 years the kid kept away but now they do nothing but fight. Never seen anything get as overwhelmed with anger as the dad does. He's brutal caught him banging the kids head on rocks and I swear to God trying to snap his neck over a grill rid(,stick thats for support) the kid keep s getting beat up but seems the other one out it's crazy. I just have them locked up now but doesn't seem anything with change.
@@pretendfarm They were too mean to the hens, and killed their sister, so I rehomed them. I think they would be better with hens they did not grow up with.
So here I am, I have 2 roosters about the same age apart. The three OG hens and Mr Roo are about 2/3 years old. This spring I purchased chicks. I have 3 more young hens and young Brahma rooster. Everyone co-existed until 2weeks ago. The 2 yr old rooster is constantly chasing the younger rooster away from food and has taken over his hens. Yep, I have one lonely, very isolated Brahma Roo whose hens left him for a more mature Roo. Neither Roo have chased any people, only each other. Not sure what I should do, but leaning toward parting with one of the boys. I don’t want any serious fighting and don’t want a lonely Roo
Just hatch my first batch of eggs. Got a Roo. So far it's all good. Already doing what was suggested in this video. Got plenty of hens. Multiple food and water soures. So it's sounds like I'm on the right track. Here's hoping Father and Son can live together. I introduced them day three. The older Roo is getting protective. 🤞
I think you’re going to be just fine! They’re barnyard chickens. I’ve got 3 roosters under the same roof right now and still no problems! I’ll do a video update soon to show how they’re getting along
I have 17 hens with two Roo's - father n son--- the son is 7 months old and basically have the same situation in my yard like yours--father is a pure Delaware and son is half Delaware-half Barred Rock and is 3 inches taller ;) Will be keeping a close eye on them as time goes on.
I think Buffs Orpingtons tend to be mild mannered. Which is good for having multiple roosters. We have rooster brothers. They do ok. But every now and then we have a knock down drag out to settle a score and then they are friends again. 😂 My issue is I hatched out a bunch of eggs and ended up with way too many cockerels. I was given a rooster - he is mean! We raised 2 hens and one rooster last year and he is so beautiful we wanted to keep him. He gets the run around from the older one! Never keep just 2!! That’s a definite disaster waiting to happen. You need eithrr 1 or 3, or more. Two alone will fight eachother wrecklessly, as opposed to the others blended in to break up fights and ease tensions.
My two roosters behaviour is similar. The dominant one (General) chases the other one (Lieutenant). General gets triggered when Lieutenant mates his girl. What is this behaviour from the General?
There is always a dominant rooster and a subordinate one when you have multiple roosters living together. Mine have always displayed the behavior you mentioned for years, but nobody ever got hurt. I don’t know what happened to cause this now since they’ve lived together for years 🤷🏻♂️
That's good to hear that its normal behaviour. One more thing i noticed is that the Lieutenant hasn't started crowing yet, that too happens because of the presence of the dominant rooster?
We have an established one year old rooster and 8 hens. We rescued another rooster and have him in a pen within the main run. The 2 fight thru the fence and the new guy is about the same size but with longer spurs. I really want to try to merge , but don’t want my boy getting hurt. Would you have Suggestions or advice , please??
