In a right turn only the right clap open up, one up one down, and hence drag spin the plane in a clock wise turn, as the stealth bomber do. At the same time the left clamp stay closed and level. Normally only one clamp operate in a turn. Why do the model in this video let the left and right clamps configured to open in a forward flight?
Thank you for your detailed observation! You're correct in noting the drag-based control approach. This method seen in advanced stealth designs like the B-2 Spirit, reduces radar cross-section by eliminating traditional vertical stabilizers. The use of clamshell-style drag rudders allows precise yaw control without compromising stealth characteristics. Regarding the dual clamp operation in forward flight, it could be a configuration to test symmetrical drag effects, potentially for stability or to simulate specific aerodynamic conditions. In operational settings, asymmetrical deployment is typically preferred for directional control, as you mentioned. Differential thrust, as @ZweiZwolf highlighted, is another critical factor, especially in stealth platforms, for fine-tuning directional adjustments. Together, these systems provide agility while maintaining low observability.
You may be right about the symmetrical drag test explanation. However with together landing gears down, I think the drag on both clamps complementing the gear for one goal, a combined drag to stress the engine under test, at 50% or higher thrust. Also set up to determine a low speed stall speed limit. If so it is a safer plan to use in case the wing do enter a stall, the pilot can close all clamp flaps to recover the thrust sooner than the time it takes the engine to rev up from 1/3 thrust or so. Near stall speed it is easier for the camera crew to capture its flight images.
We should not forget that, J-31 prototype in its development stage eventually became J-35. This unnamed bomber may be China's H-20. As its development continues, new technologies such as hypersonic flight and air superiority capabilities can be added turning it into H-21.😅

That is my opinion... no one really knows
I'll say the more commonly known US delta wing fighter are the F-106s, they are developed from 102, have less built, but were better known then 102, because they were used as back drop for both F-4 and F-15...
Chinese fighter jet pilots would engage in confrontational maneuvers with their US counterparts every once in a while in real life standoffs over West Pacific, so at least they've got some good training, thanks to the US. They lack the kind of operational experience that the Russians have, but I think they are much more professional than most other air forces around the world. Underestimate them at your own risk
Three engines on the J-36 is a lot of weight for an aircraft. That will be a lot of mass to turn with those little flapperons. With China’s definition of a 6th gen fighter including the concept of thrust vectoring and ultra maneuvering I would bet they’re really going for a new thrust vectoring engine. This thing would certainly need an engine like that. With that in mind, I bet this is going to be one seriously maintenance intensive aircraft. Logistics will probably also be a challenge. In speaking of which does anyone have an idea how well China’s maintenance practices are for their advanced fighters? Do they use primarily contractors? If so with their large quantity of J-20s, this thing, j-35, drones, and their new bombers. I’ll be interested to see if they’re able to keep up maintenance during conflict
I can tell you for sure that it is not possible, because in 2023, China's manufacturing output will only account for 35% of the world's total, and we hope to increase it to 45% by 2030.
It's not a dogfighter, it's a supersonic carrier interceptor. Fast and stealthy from the front, with a large, heavy munitions loadout to strike from far beyond visual range. China's military is all state, no contractors.
China is not like the United States, where the manufacturing industry is hollowed out, so the maintenance cost is no more than half of that of the United States. Of course, the same is true for purchasing aircraft. This way you can understand that the hollowing out of the US manufacturing industry and the large number of talents going to the financial, legal and other service industries are definitely strategic mistakes, and this situation is irreversible. In this competition, the United States is doomed to lose!
Your point about the potential weight challenges of the J-36 with three engines is interesting. China's focus on incorporating advanced thrust-vectoring engines aligns with their stated goals for sixth-generation capabilities, including ultra-maneuverability & advanced electronic warfare systems. Regarding maintenance, China's rapid advancements in aerospace technology suggest significant investment in logistics and support infrastructure. While there isn’t much publicly available data on their maintenance practices, it's worth noting that their military-industrial complex has increasingly integrated domestic contractors & automated systems to manage their growing fleet, including the J-20, J-35, and newer platforms. It will indeed be interesting to see how these systems perform & are sustained during prolonged operations or conflict scenarios.
@VIVIANLIU0310 Ohh... poor baby can't come up with anything so resorts to insults. China hasn't been able to match the F-22 let alone the F-35, they've had all sorts of issues with their turbines (the J-20 is struggling), & you think they're going to leap ahead with an aircraft the size of a block of flats that needs 3 engines to fly? Cool story, bro. 🤡

Does it properly work is another question, can’t even make your own jet turbines. Relying mostly on Russia built turbines and all of a sudden this? It’s Questionable.
They've been building their own jet turbines for years now, they only relied on Russian imports initially because it was cheaper and allowed their fighter jets to be operational sooner. You are so behind in information. They have also built actually working hypersonic ICBMs and other advanced missiles, all of which depend on super advanced engine designs, all of which the US/NATO doesn't have, so there is no reason to believe that somehow China doesn't have the engineering or industrial capacity to build the engines proper to a 6th generation platform... Or whatever they intend to do with "J-36"
J20's maiden flight was like only 12 years ago. I'm guessing they already started at that time the design of this new jet. So they prolly cooking something else already at this point.
China need to show something which selected so as to warn some countries better keep safe distance, they won't show you their most advanced and confidential technology
Three engines, who's engines? Russian's or their own? With Russian it might work they make a good dependable engine as for the Chines engines if it is theirs, they needed three to get it off the ground. They haven't advanced their jet tech as far as the Russians and the US and reverse engineering only goes so far.
China's jet engines, particularly those of the j35 and j20 are much better than the engine of the f35. The j20 does not use afterburners to perform supercruise whereas the f35 can not perform supercruise without using an afterburner

It's too big, looks like a bomber
that's why it' s a long range assassinator
A guided missile destroyer with wings
It's designed for very fast supersonic up to mach4 ... and with lots of armaments can serve as the deep penetration plane even to near space .
Being with tails means it is designed to fly very fast .
Yes, can function as a bomber and deep penetration plane.
neither fighter or bomber. it is a new category.
@@bixudiwon6363 a plane can either be a fighter or bomber OR BOTH as in this case.
But my guess is it is more of a new plane that is able to reach near space which will give it longer range , very high supersonic , lots more of ammo, long range and acts as forward AWAC detecting all including stealth.
That is my opinion... no one really knows

America never made a delta wing? 😂 I say do the research again F-102
I'll say the more commonly known US delta wing fighter are the F-106s, they are developed from 102, have less built, but were better known then 102, because they were used as back drop for both F-4 and F-15...
Appears if they were inspired by the Darkstar

China's sixth-generation fighter jets use pulse detonation engines (PED).

Does it properly work is another question, can’t even make your own jet turbines. Relying mostly on Russia built turbines and all of a sudden this? It’s Questionable.
Dude... Your info are outdated by at least 40 years... XD
WS15
They've been building their own jet turbines for years now, they only relied on Russian imports initially because it was cheaper and allowed their fighter jets to be operational sooner. You are so behind in information. They have also built actually working hypersonic ICBMs and other advanced missiles, all of which depend on super advanced engine designs, all of which the US/NATO doesn't have, so there is no reason to believe that somehow China doesn't have the engineering or industrial capacity to build the engines proper to a 6th generation platform... Or whatever they intend to do with "J-36"

Three engines, who's engines? Russian's or their own? With Russian it might work they make a good dependable engine as for the Chines engines if it is theirs, they needed three to get it off the ground. They haven't advanced their jet tech as far as the Russians and the US and reverse engineering only goes so far.
Ignorance! Just search for China's WS-15 and WS10B, they are better than the same level engines of Russia and the United States!
The thrust and durability of Russian aircraft engines are inferior to those of Chinese ones. The Chinese have long stopped using Russian engines!
China's jet engines, particularly those of the j35 and j20 are much better than the engine of the f35.
The j20 does not use afterburners to perform supercruise whereas the f35 can not perform supercruise without using an afterburner
China now use indian engines, they normally will fall apart in 2 years, but only cost $100 per one, I ordered last week, not bad
Lol dude the original j20 had russian engines which was horrendous! China updated the J20s with their own domestically built WS15 engines
