This engine is still stock. We drive the shit out of this car too.

I agree Jake. I have the same car. It has cost a lot in repairs. And BMW service is horrible and blames the owner for the problems and at every turn they overcharge! Today I was told that it would cost twice what it is worth to fix the car, so I put 7k into trying to fix it, and essentially having to scrap the car to auction or to donate it. I get to chalk this up to my one and only time I will ever own a BMW - I loved driving it, but it isn't worth the maintenance costs!!!
Wow! Great information. I've been looking at a 2013 528 like yours nicely optioned with 45,000 miles on it. Seems like a pretty good deal at $16,500 but they wouldn't tell me how much the extended warranty is. A simple email question comes back with "it depends".
Never buy a car from a dealer where they dont tell you how much extended warranty costs. There are honest dealers that would tell you right off the bet!
Man, you guys have me nervous. About to buy a 2016 528i with 96k miles within the next few days. My 2007 328i had very little issues. Hoping to have good luck with this new to me 528i car.
N/A 6 cylinder is the way to go with BMWs. That is, if you want to keep a car for a longer period of time. If you are going to keep it for a year or two, it doesn't really matter. Oh, and of course you didn't have problems with 2007 328i - it has N52B30 motor - one of the best engines BMW ever made. This 4 cyl. from original video, not that it is not from the same car, it seems like it's from different universe compared to N52B30. I wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole (as you Americans use to say).

No worries. For any suggestions on a 2006 325i and 2013 528i in my experience the common issues are usually gasket leaks, radiator leaks, windshield washer pump, thermostat and water pump (every 70k miles approx.) issues. I kept the 2006 325i until 135k miles and sold that one and sold the 2013 528i until 116k miles. Lease a bmw to save you any headaches.
My 550 has been rock solid. I feel sorry for the people in the comments who have been put off by one guys comments. I suspect for every negative post on the internet there are hundreds of satisfied customers just getting on with their lives :)
The only one I’ve had of these with mine is the headlight issue and mine only has one light that gets water in it. I ended up putting one of those silica gel packets in it, and that seemed to have worked and keep it dried from here on out.

I have the same disappointment with my F10 535i that had the constant small issues then a rod knock that caused the engine be replaced at almost 50k miles. It was all fixed under warranty. Now at 58k and Ive lost all confidence with it and currently thinking of trading it in but dont want tcar payments. But for some reason I still kind of like it.
Either you bought a lemon or you made it a lemon by neglecto everything, you said 'this was broken for so long then eventually broke, that was faulty...then broke" hahaha
At 3:00 when you mentioned not getting a boost when driving/ sort of a sluggish drive, this could be that you were in eco pro mode, which causes the car to drive like that to save gas and go easier on the engine. Maybe that’s not the case, but just a thought.
those plastic door trims? I actually ordered replacements from Temu, and replaced it myself. The Trim set, I think was around $30. hey, if it works for next couple years, why not? 😄
Yes that is true except this happened at such low miles. The car was not raced or abused. The rotors warped and didn’t last long at all. Other cars I’ve owned have had cam swaps and were driven very hard and the motor mounts always made it to at least 100k (at a minimum). I’m hearing from many that the motor mounts on bmw just aren’t that great so I guess I’m not alone.
@@jakess707 dude if you can't afford it then stop whining. Bmws were never made for poor people. Like i said Motor mounts and Brakes are normal wear and tear. My BMW is at 100k and still has original motor mounts. It depends on how the previous owners treated the car also hitting speed bumps hard anr hitting pot holes can also low the life expectancy of the motor mounts. There's many factors to this.
Lol there are many factors, but the car was babied and had quite a few other issues such as the AC (entire unit), lock mechanism, radio, and more. When you pay 70k cash for a brand new car it’s kinda disappointing when you have to spend significant time and stress dealing with the dealer techs or fixing it yourself. Poor people? Lmao, Clearly I hit you somewhere where it hurt haha. Enjoy your car lol
Mine had 80k miles needed some repairs not major stuf just oil change this and that, months later motor broke down lost 11k of money there, bad experience with this car
Has anyone had this awful experience? I was driving along as usual when out of the blue I got a "Drivetrain Malfunction" error. Then something about low oil pressure and operation of the vehicle is not possible. The car went into limp mode. I just had to have it towed to the nearest BMW repair shop. After draining the oil the guys found pieces of the engine in the oil and said they wouldn't spend time fixing it. The engine was blown and needs to be rebuilt. It only has 66,000 miles on it. The last time it was at BMW was for the turbo fix that was covered under warranty a few months ago. I've had my car serviced regularly by BMW and have never had any problems until this. I did see someone else on some other forums with the same problem. Found out the 2012/2013 had some timing chain issues and the 2012/2013 are the most problematic...heard they completely fixed the issue by 2015🤦♀️never again will I own another 5 series
I’m actually going through the same thing with my 528i, I drove it and kept hearing a ticking sound.. ended up taking it to the shop and the people said they found pieces of the engine in the oil and I need a whole new engine. Sucks
this just sounds like a bad experience to me.. but the motor mount is a typical issue with many cars expercially a 10year old car.. but the electrical issues damn

Sounds like stuck calipers on the brakes. And these engines sound like they do its not a defect. Just replaced some rotting planstics on my 2015 535i, easy. Gotta agree with other people that motor mount went too long unchanged. Also the cats on these are very restrictive. HiFlo cat opens it up and reduces running temp. Fwiw i agree GM rock. But as a lifelong GM owner no Big3 can touch the class a BMW provides. Totally differenrt universe but stay away if you lack shadetree skills.

Want to upgrade to an F10 530d making it 3 f10a 😂 in contrast i would deffo buy again
The older you buy the more problems you fix, the difference that with BMWs this older becomes around 4-5 year period from new and get worse with every year.
I’m going to stick with Audi. My old Audi was just in an accident sadly, and it had 210k solid miles with only a timing chain replacement and water pump replacement.
mmmm. it looks like this a Rebuilt car, all those problems described are common but with rebuilt cars no matter the brand. my dad's car is 530i 2006 150.000 miles on it and still runs and looks like new, just normal issues, he recently replaced suspension arms and shocks but it is more than normal for a 15 years car, it is true maintenance is not cheap, but you have to do it before problems arise, the same you would do with any other brand, like changing transmission fluid every 35000 miles even if the dealer says that it is not necessary (lifetime) differncial fluids every35k miles, serpentine belt every 65000 miles, fresh coolant every 2-3 years to avoid those oil leaks, (acid coolant destroys gaskets) All cars need valve cover or engine gaskets any time after 60k miles my junk Chevrolet had oil leakings just at 30.000 miles and needed engine gaskets replacement, fortunately it was under warranty. I am posting this comment to warn people about Rebuilt cars, my boyfriend got a rebuilt 323 xdrive with just 18.000 miles and it is only problems.
My beemer stalled lost power all a sudden that I almost..almost on the brink of an accident, almost hurting myself and others that I got rid of it right away. .not worth it. Used car lots or car dealers should refuse these cars as trade ins or purchase and sell em for parts.
2010 535i aint that much better boss. A/c evaporator went bad and sits at the back of the engine, major hours from a fix it shop to change. Oil pan gasket is another major issue as it takes hours to fix, Engine motor mounts as well as the transmission mounts went bad as well causing vibrations when idleing, Now my transmission needs to be changed. Turbo hose jumped off the turbo, eats rear tires. Electric Water pump and thermostat gave up on me. Water hoses needed changing. Looks good to own and drive but huge maintenance issues.
Don't buy a bmw after lease. They are being abused very often. My coworker puts the cheapest regular in his leased BMWs and skips maintenance often. They do not care, most of them. Also if it is with M sport package, they often been driven on a track. Way too much abuse. And such neglect often is hard to see when you buying second hand them

My 550i had issue after issue.... Valve stem seals were the number one issue, went at 70k miles and BMW wouldn't cover it. The repair costs thousands, just got rid of the car because besides that there were so many issues.
Thank you for the honest review!!
Really appreciate it
very informative. I have a 1999 E39. The best 5 ever. I've had the E60 (2004-2010)-- total crap. bad plastics. Still have the E39 , 20 yrs now. thinking of getting an F10. The do look good, but I'm so scared its more junk and computers. Thanks so much!!
I have a 2011 535 with a manual transmission. It now has in excess of 140,000.00 miles and I have not had any of those problems.
That’s awesome! Wish i could say the same
My 2015 528i motor mounts went bad around 50k. Radio screen has a spot on the top side, dealer said is probably the head unit. Valve cover and oil cooler gaskets leaking. Rear bushing cracking and cowl rubber on the windshield coming apart. Oh brake light won't reset $250 and replaced rotors twice. That's why you lease these high end cars.
I have had my 2013 BMW 528 I since I bought it 2016. I have had to replace the turbo, and brakes, of course. I am at 106000 miles. It needs brakes and motor mounts if I want to stop the vibrating. It needs a valve cover. It needs an oil filter seal and the gasket. Inside.
Everything works and is in wonderful condition, from the leather to the plastic to the sunroof. This guy must have had a lemon!
im sorry that happened to you bro. i just ordered a 2014 f10 and like you aid in the description you can save literally thousands just by maintaining the vehicle on your own
Facts
how could he have prevent some of this stuff? I’m about to buy and my dad repairs cars but I want to learn myself but he has no time to teach me
just what to do to save me from these stuff because I read another comment and it said he probably flooded his vehicle
My f10 is 175k and only replacing ive done so far is suspension arms. A few other f10 drivers i know say same.
hw much did yoou spend? i was quoted $1,700 including alignment
@@cleanerdetailsllc7789 just had mine done at an alignment shop, total for both sides and alignment with spec sheet, $700, got OE parts from ECStuning and had shop install and align. 4 wheel align would have been extra $50
This engine sound like diesel thank for advise
OMG! Thank you bro I was about to get one!! Scotty Kilmer was right when he said undless money pit.
....you should look at the G30 chassis w/ B58 engine....very reliable according to various automotive sources out there!
@@bluestonemetallic7 G30 is pretty new, most of us wouldn't able to afford it LOL but its my dream car actually XD
Hey I have a 535i 2008 had it 8 years now bought with 20k original miles I absolutely love the car. I have 127,000 miles on it 12 years.
I have not had the turbo go out it ever no Westgate issues the ac and heat work perfectly the radio unit still function like new the car still drives like new. I have had the water pump go out I have had the alternator go out at 120,000 it cooked my battery and gear shifter. And at 90,000 the valve cover gasket started leaking. For the most part the car has been great spark plugs changed every 50,000 tranny serviced every 50,000 oil changed every 15 000 when the valve cover was pulled my engine still looked new aside from carbon build up.
This engine is still stock. We drive the shit out of this car too.
My 520d 2014 cost me money , various items going wrong , changed it for 518d 2016 , seems a lot better to drive and better build .Not sure why this should be , Both high mileage 100000 plus , latter engine more refined .
LCI post 2015 perhaps?
I agree Jake. I have the same car. It has cost a lot in repairs. And BMW service is horrible and blames the owner for the problems and at every turn they overcharge! Today I was told that it would cost twice what it is worth to fix the car, so I put 7k into trying to fix it, and essentially having to scrap the car to auction or to donate it. I get to chalk this up to my one and only time I will ever own a BMW - I loved driving it, but it isn't worth the maintenance costs!!!
thanks jake I was going to buy the same as you. but now I'm changing my mind and target at lexus now
My timing chain failed on my 2012 I would never buy another BMW in my life!!!!Lexus ES is a way better entry level luxury car more peace of mind!
Wow! Great information. I've been looking at a 2013 528 like yours nicely optioned with 45,000 miles on it. Seems like a pretty good deal at $16,500 but they wouldn't tell me how much the extended warranty is. A simple email question comes back with "it depends".
Get the 535i those engines are better mechanically
Lol man go with 535i or 535d or 550d or 523i (6cyl)
hahah
Never buy a car from a dealer where they dont tell you how much extended warranty costs. There are honest dealers that would tell you right off the bet!
@3000
Im short and i have to squat ATG and bend my neck just to get inside. Then to close the door you need a 10 foot long arm.
Man, you guys have me nervous. About to buy a 2016 528i with 96k miles within the next few days. My 2007 328i had very little issues. Hoping to have good luck with this new to me 528i car.
Just bought a 2016 528i 89000 miles on Tuesday and I'm really impressed with it. Fun car!
@@plocke3 how is your car? I will buy 2016 528i m package 52k miles
How is your car now?
@@j.c.ubagox873 I ended up picking up a 2014 528i with 80k miles. Had it about a month now. The car is awesome. Put about $1,000 in parts getting it back to perfect. Fingers crossed.
My motor mounts had to be replaced too runs really nice now things wear out
Wow... that’s crazy... I have a 2011 535xi with over 130,000 and haven’t had any problems... I did change out the nasty door trim piece with a aftermarket part and it worked fine. I changed out the run flat tires immediately...
The runs flats are awful and I’ve not had any of these issues I did need the I drive screen replaced though as it just failed one day along with my climate control
Hi. May I ask where you bought the aftermarket door trim? Thanks in advance.
@@franciscoruablanco3587 ! I got it from EBay! Just search for door handle or trim for bmw E90 and several vendors will come up!
I feel ya. My car has 115k miles did about $3k maint on my own last month and have $1k more to go. If I would of gone to the dealership would of cost me like $10k by now. Oh yeah one more year to pay it off too.
Are you happy with your Beamer
@@kalenawarren4782 I enjoyed the ride but not the maintenance up keep. Just traded it in for a 2021 Toyota Highlander.
@@miguelc9358 thanks for your comment and congrats on the highlander
Miguel C I am scare I want to get one but the maintence is scaring me
My 550 has been rock solid. I feel sorry for the people in the comments who have been put off by one guys comments. I suspect for every negative post on the internet there are hundreds of satisfied customers just getting on with their lives :)
Does it have the infamous N63 Hot-V TT V8?
The 4 cylinder is the problem
The only one I’ve had of these with mine is the headlight issue and mine only has one light that gets water in it. I ended up putting one of those silica gel packets in it, and that seemed to have worked and keep it dried from here on out.
thank you for the great details video! Wonderful info.
Waiting for them to hit about 10k asking then I’m buying
They're already.
They’re paid mines 12k
You just complain about everything you had the car for 7 years😂 it’s a BMW if you can’t afford it stay away 🤷🏽♂️
A car to lease only ..I drive like 25,30 k miles a year so it’s not an option for me. I drive a Lexus gs f 2015 , 280 k miles 0 issues
He doesn't sound like a bmw person I mean don't we all know what we get into when we buy a bmw I've spend around 2k just one engine maintenance and I love my 535i I do my own oil changes he should too he probably doesn't like working on car I've saved alot of money doing my own work obviously he is gonna pay alot if he goes to the mechanic for every little thing
i've got many of the same issues. Motor mounts, oil filter housing gasket, valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, seat belt sensor error,..... 🤮
And that's the most reliable platform. lol
Just wait til this guy learns about the timing chain guide issues on those engines....😂
Either you bought a lemon or you made it a lemon by neglecto everything, you said 'this was broken for so long then eventually broke, that was faulty...then broke" hahaha
If your car is vibrating the motor mounts probably went out
At 3:00 when you mentioned not getting a boost when driving/ sort of a sluggish drive, this could be that you were in eco pro mode, which causes the car to drive like that to save gas and go easier on the engine. Maybe that’s not the case, but just a thought.
I had it in sport mode or comfort mode when i was not feeling power, but thanks for the thought!!
@@jakess707 i had problems on my e60 with EGR and DPF, and symptoms were loss of power.. So check that maybe :).
Video Production Company would u trade in a trading in my 2014 impala LTZ for a 2011 535i?
Thank you very much sir
those plastic door trims? I actually ordered replacements from Temu, and replaced it myself. The Trim set, I think was around $30. hey, if it works for next couple years, why not? 😄
I’ll stick to Honda. My 2008 civic runs like champ and I commute 34 daily.
For most people, that's good advice.
what's up with the Beamer Code vid dawg :)
Not too bad, especially on the fact that it’s a BMW.
It would've been even better if you mentioned the costs for the repairs , saying it wasn't a cheap fix dosent say much
the fact that you just let the engine idle is mind-boggling.
😂😂
If you get a bmw make sure it has the inline 6 cylinder. The four cylinder turbo is just not a good engine.
Motor mounts and break rotors are normal maintenance items on every car. You cannot get mad about that stuff.
There a recall on the engine we got a new engine… Month later the car break failed I reended someone. Car would not stop going 30 miles a hour.
Mine had 80k miles needed some repairs not major stuf just oil change this and that, months later motor broke down lost 11k of money there, bad experience with this car
same!! motor broke down and out 9k!!
I don't think BMW's are made to be driven after the warranty period. This was not the case for BMWs in the 80s and 90s!
Sounds like someone screwed up your turbo work.
I think I'm gonna keep my 2011 323i... no issue at all.
Nice video! Would not buy a used BMW for these quality issues they have faced. Have a 2020 330i for work and love it but would not want to own one. Wish Bmw cared about quality.
Thanks you! And yes I totally agree!
@@jakess707 Just because your experience was negative doesn't mean all of them are. ANY model of ANY car you type into TH-cam will have a video just like yours.
I’m thinking about buying one of these. And when I seen your video I thought “oh no here we go” “let’s find out how shitty they are” bro that’s just normal wear and tear type stuff 😂😂
Im curius, I will look for the bin on the web, last summer I saw many bmws in US, after inquiry the vin on google found that majority of those cars wera badly damage and repair for resale, have to say all of them looks like new but after saw the photos of the car in the auction I dont know how the repair those cars. badly damage cars will have those kind of problem, now I have a 535 2014 and loved, no problems so far.
It’s a 4 cylinder what do you except they vibrate and don’t have they much power
im going to buy it in a few weeks
Sounds like stuck calipers on the brakes. And these engines sound like they do its not a defect.
Just replaced some rotting planstics on my 2015 535i, easy.
Gotta agree with other people that motor mount went too long unchanged. Also the cats on these are very restrictive. HiFlo cat opens it up and reduces running temp.
Fwiw i agree GM rock. But as a lifelong GM owner no Big3 can touch the class a BMW provides. Totally differenrt universe but stay away if you lack shadetree skills.
I’m at 200,000 miles with Mine same model and everything and still brand spanking new lol if you own a bmw you gotta take care of the things before you think about taking care of it lol
Lol u just got unlucky pal
I had 2 f10s a pre facelidt 2012 525d had it 2 years and covers 60k miles and was solid as a rock. I've now has a 2016 520d with a stage 1 remap for a year now and have done 40k miles and its been solid as a rock. Want to upgrade to an F10 530d making it 3 f10a 😂 in contrast i would deffo buy again
feel bad for this car, heavy body with tiring small engine...
The timing chain is trash!! The damage the engine if you not change after 70k o 80k ..
The older you buy the more problems you fix, the difference that with BMWs this older becomes around 4-5 year period from new and get worse with every year.
The n20 engine is trash that’s where you went wrong I personally prefer the n54, n52 and n63 2014 or newer. Reliable decent power
I’m going to stick with Audi. My old Audi was just in an accident sadly, and it had 210k solid miles with only a timing chain replacement and water pump replacement.
What did the dealer say about the lights n interior sticky I have both in mine
My 535i drive brand new still wit 80k plus miles
I don't understand why the headlights cost so much?
my 5 series runs great but i think i need new rotors now at 130k
mmmm. it looks like this a Rebuilt car, all those problems described are common but with rebuilt cars no matter the brand. my dad's car is 530i 2006 150.000 miles on it and still runs and looks like new, just normal issues, he recently replaced suspension arms and shocks but it is more than normal for a 15 years car, it is true maintenance is not cheap, but you have to do it before problems arise, the same you would do with any other brand, like changing transmission fluid every 35000 miles even if the dealer says that it is not necessary (lifetime) differncial fluids every35k miles, serpentine belt every 65000 miles, fresh coolant every 2-3 years to avoid those oil leaks, (acid coolant destroys gaskets) All cars need valve cover or engine gaskets any time after 60k miles my junk Chevrolet had oil leakings just at 30.000 miles and needed engine gaskets replacement, fortunately it was under warranty. I am posting this comment to warn people about Rebuilt cars, my boyfriend got a rebuilt 323 xdrive with just 18.000 miles and it is only problems.
i don't think ill ever buy a 528i after watching this video. i was specifically targeting the F10 2011-2015ish, but hell no.
My beemer stalled lost power all a sudden that I almost..almost on the brink of an accident, almost hurting myself and others that I got rid of it right away. .not worth it.
Used car lots or car dealers should refuse these cars as trade ins or purchase and sell em for parts.
You should have gotten a 2010 and 2011 straight 6 versions. They absolutely destroy those super boost tiny 4 cyls.
@alfa_romeo55yush82 but the 535 stayed turbo straight 6. The 328i non turbo 6cyl.
My 528i 2012 has 175k miles runs like a top
Change spark plugs
144k 2012 528i no problems as of right now
I think all 3,5 series have that problem with door plastic. Is so sticky and annoying
What year is your car ?
Don't buy a bmw after lease. They are being abused very often. My coworker puts the cheapest regular in his leased BMWs and skips maintenance often. They do not care, most of them. Also if it is with M sport package, they often been driven on a track. Way too much abuse. And such neglect often is hard to see when you buying second hand them
That's very true That's why you have to do your research and buy it straight from the owner not a dealership. The owner can tell you everything about the car
Its a shame bro people can't even afford to own one but still go and get one leased to loose it in a year SMH some people real ignorant
Ah. Longboard. Well, there you have it.
Man Bmw just a problem had Bmw x5 give me a lot of engine problems I had to get rid of it got a Mercedes no problem at all Gas and oil and that’s it
U get a lot of those problems with undersized engines. A 5 series should have a v6 or bigger
