Know absolutely nothing about BJJ or grappling. Watched his match against Toquinho Palhares a few weeks ago. Totally hooked. Now just gotta hoof it to San Diego.
The only way I see Galvão winning is if he goes full blast for however long he can, that should be his strategy. If he tries to follow a game plan and take it easy the first 5 or 10 minutes Gordon will take control over the fight
Actually it’s quite the opposite. He’s a better wrestler than Gordon so the only way he could win is by using his superior wrestling and stalling. Gordon could drop guard but that’s a hug risk in ADCC because of the negative you get
Andre chances honestly go up if he's on top as with that Galvao gets it done quick so wrestling is probably going to be key as he beat Felipe years ago to defend the ADCC Belt. Gordon has to avoid getting takendown as now he would be fighting 1 of the solid champions at heavyweight besides maybe 2 people also Andre can play the aggressive chess game this is probably going to be hard for Gordon despite what's happened.
Of course Andre is a better wrestler. Gordon is way better than him almost everywhere. Just not wrestling.
Well he's the most dominant ADCC champion in history but yes, most high level grapplers are better than him now. Not wrestling though.
@free-over-hurt-feelings All recent events considered I question that Gordon lost to Vinny Andre beat Vinny never lost to him. Andre is 2-1 vs Felipe Gordon is 1-2 vs Felipe also looking at Andre's record most of the guys he fought are extremely dangerous. Andre's greatest strength is to blend grappling with wrestling I don't think he's more a staller he most likely values position then finish which is harder when comp is higher
His problem is that if he gets on top he will not pass Gordon‘s guard but if he is on bottom Gordon will pass his guard. His only chance is to keep it wrestling the entire time. But then Gordon will just pull and sweep him. When you really think about it he doesn’t have a very good chance.

It’s finally happening
I think this is going to be a really interesting endurance match. Remember that Galvao went balls to the wall almost non stop against Pena and did not really look exhausted come end of the match. Gordon chose to attack non stop (although at a much lower pace) to go the distance to wear Pena down. If we want to speak who has got an edge on whom, my prediction is:
- Age: Ryan;
- Experience: Galvao;
- Technique: On par.
- Gas in the tank: On par (but maybe Ryan given his age difference).
- Size: Ryan;
My guess is that strategy will have to be the deciding factor.
Technique is Gordon’s, statistically speaking Galvao hasn’t had a sub in years.
The longer the match goes the advantage goes to Ryan, but this is a 5k, not a marathon. So Andre has a great chance on upsetting Gordon. I am anticipating this match will be on the feet for a good portion of the time, that is unless GR pulls guard hoping for Andre to come in and commit to a pass. But Gordon’s confidence has got to be fairly high after taking Pena down several times so he might try to dominate on the feet. Gordon has to get through the weight class and absolute first though. How he does there will likely determine his strategy with Andre. No shame in either one losing. Galvao is past his prime although he can still compete at the highest level. So a win would be very impressive. A win for Ryan would cement him as the greatest sub grappler to walk the planet. Only if he wins weight and absolute as well though. Even a close loss against Andre and winning weight and absolute would still be an incredible feat for The King.

He knows how to play within the rule set very well. Hopefully they will be more stringent on passivity.

Gordon faced off many guys who are in tremendous shape. Gordon himself isn't tremendous shape. I think part of the thing is most people aren't used to Gordon's smooth flow. Andre's is very bumpy and explosive. Gordon controls the match right off the bat and if he can do it with Andre he can win

Well it’s over and The King is the undisputed champ. Taking down GR was a big mistake in my opinion. Why? He’s way too dangerous there. Maybe he did this cuz he really did had a bum knee? Possibly. Maybe standing and wrestling would be more of an issue for Andre and his knee, thus he decided to get it over with and go to the ground? I don’t know. Only Andre knows why. Twisting out of and defending Gordon’s leg attacks seem like would be more concerning to me if my knee was going to be an issue. Any other thoughts?
The Juiciest fight since Glavao vs Palhares. Gordon is more roided than ever, and Galvao is looking as always. Grappling will never approach mainstream for many reasons, but the fact that the top guys would never pass even the lowest grade testing is one. It's easy for pros to pass Usada testing, but these guy are all out Juicing, not even trying to hide it or limit it. There is a reason that the Grappling guys going into MMA are flocking to ONE where the testing is almost non existent. Check the footage of Galvao in Strikeforce, in the prime of his 20''s. His physique was no where near as jacked as his Grappling physique. It's radically different, and he was juicing then too, just nowhere near as he can in grappling. As soon as he grapples his muscle goes into overdrive, his fat vanishes (even age 39). If Gordon starts MMA in the US his physique will sudenly change radically. If he does MMA in ONE it won't

They actually have separate prayer session in different parts of the gym for each belief system. I am a practicing satanist and Galvao lets my brethren and I sacrifice our goat in the southern corner of the gym while they pray in the northern part
