    Unbelievable run. It would have been absolutely nuts if he actually broke the record here. The fact that he got so close is just incredible.

      When he went past Legese he did a big curve around him that cost him a few seconds

    Only 3 people in history have dipped under 2:02, Kipchoge, Bekele and Kiptum. What an insane trio to be in. We will surely witness sub 2 hours officially in our lifetimes(hopefully)

    I took part both in 2018 and 2019. Bekele had lower and thus better temperatures than Kipchoge, however in 2019, the surface was a bit more slippery due to rain. Bekele also lost like some seconds by overtaking the second runner Legese in an exaggerated bend. Still amazing how he could took 9 seconds of Kipchoge on the last two kilometres.

      That curve was so unnecessary. I get the moment took him and really made him do an awful bend. It cost him the world record.

    Kenenise Bekele will hopefully win Kipchoge in London marathon in april. He is finally injury free. Dont forget that Carlos Lopez was 38 years old breaking the world record in marathon with the time, 2:07:12 in Rotterdam, 1986. Lopez was then the first man running the marathon under 2:08.00. Runners are often at their best in marathon running, around the age of 40.

      The thing is with the Berlin 2020 marathon recently being cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic he is going to have to wait until Berlin 2021 by which time he will be nearly 39. Also he will probably have to choose between going to the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 to face off against Kipchoge or skip it to try and break the record in Berlin. If the Nike Alpha Flys really are even faster than the Vaporfly next % then he might just break the record next year if he goes to Berlin instead of Tokyo. Unfortunately it means we probably won't see Kipchoge vs Bekele for a while and Kipchoge will prob take the WR back from Bekele when he gets a chance wearing the Alpha Flys. I still think Bekele is the best ever distance runner but Kipchoge the better marathon runner because of his discipline and dedication.

    The official length of a race course is not identical to the length run by an athlete. Certified marathons are longer than 42195 meters, measured along the shortest possible route, within 30 cm of curbs at turns. Athletes never run this perfectly. Also, the precision of bicycle measured marathons is 1/1000, or 42 meters, or 7 seconds @ 4:40/mile. The lengths run at Berlin by Bekele and Kipchogi are not identical, and probably are as imprecise as the bicycle measurements. 2 seconds is insignificant when the least significant unit is 42 meters, or 7 seconds. Scientifically, KB and IK share the "world record" for a road marathon.

    • @waterproof4403
      @waterproof4403 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The world record was lost when Bekele ran an awful curve around legese. Around 35km. He ran a few extra meters. That cost him like 4 seconds. So agonizing.

    But in a real race had they been neck and neck heading into the last 2 kms or the last kilometer kipchoge would have dug deep and dropped bekele,, in the London marathon 2019 it was impressive how he went about dropping the two Ethiopians running on his shoulders,, to get rid of geremew the last one he dropped a mile in under 4:30 after running 40k already,, would be fun to see them both compete in a fast pace marathon, but kipchoge has so much experience in how to win marathons that kenenisa couldn't beat him

    • @jiannanhuang4974
      @jiannanhuang4974 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      In a real race if Kipchoge hadn't dropped Bekele into the final 2k, it's Bekele without a doubt. It's just an unlikely situation.

      @@Almostoncearunner that's 5k,everyone knows bekele was a beast on the track because of his speed endurance, but this is the marathon, and yes he's ran 2 .01 .41, but if it came to a big burn up in the closing stages of a marathon, kipchoge drops him 9 times out of 10,, okay maybe 7 times out of 10,but you get the point

    • @flamingored960

      @@richwarega2584 bekele would drop kipchoge in any race if he stayed healthy and committed 6/10 times in the marathon. But that's a big no because that they never happened in the marathon. Its still impressive how Bekele came back from a couple of months of training.

      You must not have watched them on the track when they were younger. No one, absolutely no one outkicks Bekele. Nothing against Kipchoge, but a healthy Bekele is no match
