@@kingexclusivo No, not the first ever. But it was the first to so extensively use what are now known as special effects, makeup effects and stop motion animation. It really depends on what you want to call a movie. The earliest known "moving picture" clip dates to 1888. The first of what we would consider to be a feature length movie (it's one hour long) to 1906.
Plus, people were experimenting constantly, churning out sometimes dozens of little movies a year. Most of which is now lost.

I agree. I never liked the video for that reason. For me, the song is about leaving your home to strike it out in the world, to evolve, shed things, becoming a truer more mature self and to not fear the uncertainty of this leap, and the beautiful music really electrifies this significant and pivotal moment and feeling, and the music video interrupts that feeling I get when just listening to it.

The great thing about growing up in the 80s-very early 90's is being around to see all these amazing bands and hip hop artists in clubs, bars and festivals in their infancy and nobody was divided into different camps/closed off like they are now. Their first two albums were amazing combining real hard rock with crazy guitar solos, alt rock vocals and arrangements, perfect marriage of new and old. Then billy just stepped it up so many levels as a singer song writer and made songs that were culturally significant.everyone was open minded and breaking down all the barriers that had kept us separated for so long. Young people of all races, colors, creeds, orientations were all mixing together and sharing ideas. It's crazy how the proverbial "they" have been working to turn us all against each other. I guess its better for them than the us vs them counterculture movement we were all a part of. They want to divide and conquer. It's crazy to me to see any young person worship any kind of president/politician, even more so when it's obvious he's sending you all to your doom.

Just spun my copy of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness last night. Absolutely the best I’ve ever heard that album, because the mix is just less compressed and really brings out the dynamics. Recommend it if anyone can afford it.

Oh, I'd forgotten how much I love this song and video. Steampunk-ish video before that was even a widespread/known thing. Never got to see Smashing Pumpkins live. Wish I had. Do they still tour? Last I'd heard, Billy Corgan had gone a bit off the rails, like aluminum foil hat off, but I do still love this band and their sound. So many memories.

Love me some Smashing Pumpkins but you should definitely have some Rob Zombie on Halloween Living Dead Girl or Dragula

We'll crucify the insincere tonight, tonight
    We'll make things right,
We'll feel it all tonight, tonight
We'll find a way to offer up the night tonight
The indescribable moments of your life tonight
Cannot listen to these lyrics without tears. ohboy of the nineties.

Yeah, the video is something special on it's own for the homage to the silent film age, but the song is also great on it's own. As a Chicagoan, I always love it when he references "In the city by the lake, The place where you were born." :)

Growing up watching MTV....this has to be (to me) one of the best Music Videos and songs ever put out in the 90's. As well as "King Nothing" by Metallica.

I noticed you reacted to Alison Krauss a little awhile ago and I don't want to totally blow your mind, but did you know she did an album with Robert Plant about ten years ago? It's called Raising Sand and it's pretty solid.
