    What a great and interesting circuit to hear all that insights from. So many details in this lesson are later usefull on their own in other builts. I love your video's so full of knowledge and so good to follow and understand. You are a great teacher and with a schematic like this i can enjoy learning more than ever.     Thank you for the video! I am using it now for the practical design of the converter. But I found if we define d=tph/Ts, the formula for g should be corrected as follows: g=Ts*(1-2*d)*d/(n*L), which corresponds to 90 degrees (d=1/4) for maximum value like in the picture from your video. Thank you.

    Respected Professor is DAB is suitable to connect MW scale PV system to HVDC Transmission system please help me in this regard for simulation of DAB in MATLAB

      For very high power it would be better to use everal units in parallel. Sorry for not being able to help you with MATLAB simulation.

      @@sambenyaakov When Qb1 and Qb4 are on, then I2=IL so the two lines are the same. When Qb2 and Qb3 are on, then I2=-IL. Thanks for all the great videos by the way.

      @@sambenyaakov @14:03, you show that I2=IL, along with the switching plots for Qb1, Qb4, and Qb2, Qb3. When Qb1 and Qb4 are on, then I2=IL so the two lines (red and blue) are the same, which is what you have shown on your plot. However, when Qb2 and Qb3 are on, then I2=-IL, so the blue line depicting I2 should have a positive slope while IL has a negative slope. I think you drew I2=IL when Qb2 and Qb3 are on. Is that correct?

      @@xichenjiang7799 I really don't follow you. Never mind the slope. when Qb2 and Qb3 are on, then at any given time I2=-IL, (mirror across the time axis)

    One thing immediately appears. In the left and right legs we have to use very different mosfets (or even mosfet and igbt). I doubt we can use a same controller for the whole system (I don’t mean drivers, but a controller exactly). How to sync boost, soft-start, dead times, etc if we spread a phase shifting mechanism over a bridge?…
    Another thing.. What is an advantage comparing to a classical two secondary coils + sync rectifier architecture? I see twice more expensive transistors and a doubled heat losses.
    Modern TI full bridge phase shift zvs controllers do their job great at only one side of s bridge

      As compared to phase shift: DAB is bidirectional and has a wider range of voltage ratios with ZVS.

    Thank you a lot prof for the shared valuable informations related to DAB. My questions are the followings:
    1- is it possible to implement the voltage-fed or current-fed DAB without blocking capacitor in series with the leakage inductor?
    2- Among the mention modulation schemes which one is recommended for reducing the circulating current with extended ZVS range.

      Thanks for conversation.
      1. Yes is is possible, a blocking capacitor is not needed
      2. The basic phase shift DAB does not have circulating current (like the phase shifted PWM). There is no duration in which the inductor current is locked into a short.

    Hello Professor, I have some Questions.
    1) For resistive load, if there is no delay between the gate pulses than can we say that the DAB will act like Phase Shifted Full Bridge?
    2) For the same resistive load, if the secondary Bridges are operated with some phase delay then what is the impact on circuit operation?

      What do you mean resistive load? No output capacitor?

    Thank you so much sir for this wonderful explanation. I am actually developing the hardware setup of dual active bridge in the laboratory. I/P is 300V DC and o/p is 225 VDC (transformer turns ratio is 1:0.75). I am observing that power transfer is possible for a resistive load at the output with no delay between the pulses for the two H-Bridges. Can you please give an insight of the circuit when no delay is given, and how power transfer is possible with resistive load at open loop with no delay.

    How to design the DAB for a particular gain? eg if I need to connect between 12V and 400V. Is the gain dependant on the turns ratio?

      The gain is primarily by turns ratio. Modulation adds a litttle . Hard switching in step up mode.

    Hi Professor. Thanks for the lecturer. At time 13.49 explains the I2 current will be same as IL with zero phase shift. How this is possible. I see I2 as sawtooth rather than triangle waveform with zero phase shift . However I agree the average current is zero.

    Hello Sir. Thank you for such a great explanation. I had a doubt. What is the critical role of the inductor in this scenario? I understand that it performs the current reset or more accurately zero crossings and is an essential part of maintaining the system stability. But exactly how does it do that? Also, what would happen if the inductor was taken out?

      Practical gain range is up to, say, 1.5.- 2. But above one the efficiency goes down. Sorry about not being to help you on references.

    My question is about your definition of DTs in the figure on the video 22:10. I think it is DTs/2 instead of DTs. So does d=2*tph/Ts otherwise the first equation of I1 doesn't hold.

      Solid state transformer is a is generic name. One way to design it is by ADB

    Thanks for the explanation Prof ! One question, if I were to express the average input current I(ia), would it simply be the average inductor current multiplied by 0.5 (proportion in a a switching period where S1 is ON)?

      Average during the period the switch is on (not average over period) since you are sailing the inductor at that time.
