I don’t like the quote in the start. I think it’s true, but we are also the luckiest generation. I say this because we will be the first generation to make humanity a multiplanitary species.
I guess so...but it would've still been cool to have been born in the future with flying cars and all that crazy sh*t. (I'm joking about the cars but you get my point).
The future is definitely about saving Earth I agree with that. But I think it is kind of ridiculous that you say we will *never* colonize the outer solar system or another star. There are many propulsion designs such as nuclear thermal or fusion propulsion which would allow for week long trips to Mars and month long trips to Saturn and those are relativity near future tech we can see our-self's getting in 100-200 years. As for interstellar travel laser propulsion allow for speed of around 10-20% the speed of light which would let us get to near by stars within a hundred years not thousands. None of this tech requires "science bending". Here is a good website which talks a lot about realistic space craft designs for near and far future called Atomic Rockets, there are some outer solar system and interstellar designs on that list. www.projectrho.com/public_html/rocket/realdesigns.php Here is a great TH-cam channel which deals with interstellar colonization using real physics and no FTL th-cam.com/channels/ZFipeZtQM5CKUjx6grh54g.htmlsearch?query=interstellar+colonization
That example was using chemical propulsion. If we use laser propulsion like in this video which lets you get to 20% the speed of light then there are 138 stars within 100 years of travel time, 3 of which we have found terrestrial planets in the habitable zone. Though most people probably would not live on planets by then instead large rotating space habitats like Oneal Cylinders are much more efficient use of resources and can be build around any of those stars, they just need an asteroid belt or a planet to disassemble. As for it being logistically unfeasible that might well be the case. Trade at least would be kind of pointless but if people just want to leave and make a new civilization in a new system that seems practical considering future advances. The sun outputs 384.6 yottawatts per second, if we tapped even a small percent of this energy from solar collectors orbiting the sun we could send out thousands of colony ships per year. As for methods of people surviving the trip well this would be hundreds of years from now so medicine has probably gotten a lot better by then. Life extension might let people just live out the trip or if they get bored we might figure out a way to make them hibernate or safely cryogenicaly store them. Sounds far fetched I know but you were the one who said this will *never* happen so we can look at far future tech as well as long as it does not violate the laws of physics, and long term hibernation or better medicine does not. As for radiation several feet of water or other material can stop most radiation. Or better cancer treatments might make it a smaller concern. Issac Arthur has a good video about the challenges of interstellar travel and possible solutions if your interested. th-cam.com/video/s6BQSgidbmc/w-d-xo.html
The Sun has about 4-5 billion years left before consuming Earth, humanity has about 1 million years tops since we'd probably destroy ourselves before the sun does. I take comfort in knowing I won't be here for whenever it is our species leaves Earth for good, because that'd probably be depressing af; I only hope that once we leave we don't repeat our ills of war, greed, racism, etc.
If we can last another 1000 years, I think we'll have a chance to get off the rock. Possibly become a Civ II species. In my honest opinion thought, because technology is so far behind our ambitions and coupled with all our modern issues and irrational brains/ social behavior. We're most likely not going to see 3017.
Sagrotan well, after a while we might not be able to technologically advance any further because of natural impossibilities, there could be many things that couldn't be manipulated unlike nuclear fission and fusion which the nuclear bombs rely on.

Exactly!!!
I've heard the *theoretical* top speed of breakthrough starshot is 25% of the speed of light.
That means that it could go 134.2 million MPH at its almost definite max speed, and about 167.75 million MPH at its *theoretical* top speed.

True, with the progress of modern medicine, people that are in their teens/twenties now could easily live well into their 100s, maybe even 200s. Rich people though, the technology to keep people alive for that long won't be cheap and accessible to poor people.
pierre no
Pierre F I doubt 100 lol if there's a major breakthrough in the near future then maybe. The highest life expectancy is like 78 for that to jump 20 something years in less than 100 years when we've never done a jump like that before is crazy
@Carl Clark, the life expectancy nearly doubled from 1900 to today, and thats only a century or so, so I think 20 years is feasible
The last person born in the 18th century died some years ago, they had lived for 110+ years. Researchers say that the person (or persons) who will reach 150 or beyond has already been born.
When they said it might get damaged due to dusts, and few of them might reached. I literally thought of sperm race lmao.

Mr Cool at least we're born just in time for a race war
RoyPhee mars, by 2030 we will have humans colonizing mars
The future is definitely about saving Earth I agree with that. But I think it is kind of ridiculous that you say we will *never* colonize the outer solar system or another star. There are many propulsion designs such as nuclear thermal or fusion propulsion which would allow for week long trips to Mars and month long trips to Saturn and those are relativity near future tech we can see our-self's getting in 100-200 years. As for interstellar travel laser propulsion allow for speed of around 10-20% the speed of light which would let us get to near by stars within a hundred years not thousands. None of this tech requires "science bending".
Here is a good website which talks a lot about realistic space craft designs for near and far future called Atomic Rockets, there are some outer solar system and interstellar designs on that list.
www.projectrho.com/public_html/rocket/realdesigns.php
Here is a great TH-cam channel which deals with interstellar colonization using real physics and no FTL
th-cam.com/channels/ZFipeZtQM5CKUjx6grh54g.htmlsearch?query=interstellar+colonization
1:58 Ahaha... *outer what?*
Claire Knight that stuff will never be gone.
First race to leave will nuke the races left behind so they can't bludge in on the new planet.
Dont forget to mention that Proxima Centauri b is inhabitable because it’s atmosphere is blown away every now and then
