@@BobHarley Pre-2010 lots of TH-camrs were still using cameras with image quality closer to 1988 camcorders than current HD video, I guess. I remember seeing a lot of stuff that looked digitised from analogue tape in the early days.

I've always thought it not unlikely that this is a demo tape. The idea that it was all done by one person recorded in a home studio is not out of the question either. A couple things this theory has in its favor are that 1) it narrows the circle of people who knew about it and 2) the artist may have passed away in the decades since its recording. This would explain the mystery of why no one has come forward to claim it as their composition. (I think it's a great song.)
I dont know a single new wave act from 1984 that was making music on their own. i mean the sound is well recorded. i can t belive one person would record and play all the instruments and master such a quality demo tapeon. it s more likely that all people involved in this are dead. i know personally a friend that re-released his music from 1981 in early 2010. they tried to found the lead singer for royalties but they lost complete touch with him since mid 80s .. saying it s likely he is no more.(he told me that that singer had "a lifestyle")
@@ludochem You could be right, but consider the following: 1) I never said this musician became "an act". His life may not have gone that way professionally. 2) I actually think aspects of this recording sound a little 'homemade', like the way the lyrics come back in at 2:21 (not smooth & seamless), and the lack of clarity at points on the vocal track. 3) I don't agree that it is "more likely" that an entire band has passed away. @@pnutbutrncrackers i mean the trend of artists starting making music on their own appeared in the 90s with computers etc.. technically i cant imagine a guy doing this on his own in the 80s where everything was recorded on tape.. playing all the instruments placing the mics etc.. i dont think all people involved are dead but they might have no interest in their past. a bit like the deejay who consider this song as forgettable ..time will tell

People were certainly making music on their own in the 1980s. The first multitrack cassette deck was TEAC 144 and it appeared in 1979. Of course during the 80s and 90s there were lots of models out from different manufacturers. You could certainly get a decent sound from them if you knew what you were doing. Then there were also "cheap" reel-to-reel recorders that started to appear,as well as used stuff that were reasonably priced. (I personally knew a guy who had a complete setup in his home in 1985.) Another option would be to have the artist/band recording at a real studio, a school or a venue that had stuff for recording or they could always rent the stuff...I think it's all possible...This could be one or two guys (and the guy who is setting up the mics and mixing etc might be someone else) There is always someone who either has access to the stuff or has connections...To my ears it sounds like a band demo. But the instruments are being played in a very basic way but it's that style of music so it's really hard to know. I just feel it sounds a little unfinished.

This song was recorded from a German radio station called NDR between 1982 and 1984. Search (online) has been active since the early 2000s, when the song was made available online, and to this day no one has been able to give any accurate and correct information about the origin of the song. Facts like the band's nationality and exact year of recording are unknown, and to this day, we have not gotten any information about the whereabouts of the authors, or even the correct title of the song. Apparently there is no alternative online register/archive of this song, since the only source we have of this song is from the cassette tape that Darius recorded from the radio. Recently, a Reddit user found that in the chorus of this song, a synth called Yamaha DX7 was used, there's a preset called Syn-Lead 5, and it's exactly the same sound they used in the song, the Yamaha DX7 was released in 1983, so we may have a basis that the song was probably recorded in 1984, or late 1983.
ATTENTION: It's not "Like The Wind" by Antwon01, a guy put it on Shazam under his name without our permission and it's NOT a real thing, it's FAKE.

@@BobHarley the author of the song is the only person who knows the thruth, of course. But your choices of words for the lyrics fit the structure of the song pretty much excellent, they have perfect correlation with each other and gives the song a meaning and purpose for existing. Other versions I found out there has a lot of phrases that sound quite random and laves the song meaningless, but your version is the most structured one i found. The only doubt I have is the part where it says "you gonna somewhere", but its really unintelligible what the guy is singing there. The rest fits perfect. Lyrics aside, your remastered version is pretty clean and the best i found in youtube. If you upload it on Spotify it'll definitely be in my playlist.

ich war von 1983-85 DJ im B52 M.Gladbach. Ich bin mir fast sicher das es vom NDR3 Radio produziert wurde, Kurz bevor Camouflage entstand haben sie es gespielt, Marcus Meyn hat gesungen (hört man auch deutlich das es seine alte stimme ist). Die rechte blieben beim NDR und so kam es das dieser Song nie in der Camouflage Playlist kam. Marcus oder die damaligen Bandmitglieder müssten das bestätigen können, wenn man sie fragen würde.

I don't know if its my ears but during the instrumental parts, its almost as if there's a banjo that joins in out of nowhere to accompany the guitar and bass

I’ve been having a very vivid music video idea for this song, so I might as well document it.
A young man and his girlfriend living together in an old apartment. The man has psychological issues, and is on medication. His girlfriend supports him and comforts him. About halfway through the song, he starts to abuse his medication, becoming more erratic. He eventually just tries downing an entire bottle, but is stopped and tackled by his girlfriend, hitting his head against the edge of the bathtub. He finally snaps, shoves her off, and rips a towel rack off the wall, giving her a fatal blow to the head. He drops the rack, and comes to for a second, and goes to the phone to call emergency services. Halfway through the call, he loses it again, and starts cackling into the phone. Police arrive on the scene, and quickly determine the man to be hostile. The man threatens an officer with the towel rack, and the officer fires the first shot. The man gets incredibly lucky, and the bullet gets lodged into the towel rack. He looks at the bullet, and starts cackling again. He lunges at the officer, believing to be invincible. This was proven to be false after the second shot was fired. A fatal blow to the head. The song nears an end as an eagle-eye camera zooms out on the officer assessing the man’s body as paramedics rush his girlfriend out of the scene.

I don't know if it's just me, but that's a young David Gahan singing. Has anybody asked Depeche Mode about this? That is even an early Yamaha synthesizer being used. I have a feeling this is one of their first experimental or probably demo singles, that they abandoned for some reason.

I have the hypothesis that it's actually either a mashup of different old songs, done by a modern producer using different filters and techniques to make it sound retro. I mean, it's been done before (check on "Everyday Chemistry").
Whatever the case, fake or not, this mysterious song is just brilliant, it really gives that 80's vibe from West Germany garage bands.

I love this song, it sounds totally alike early demo of my beloved Abney Park. That's funny, I think at all that's all just a scam, and we'll never know the truth about this song. The most versions are with slowed - up vocals, this one seems ''real'', voice seems sounds like natural. I think it should name ''hit song , that never existed''. I can listen it on and on, I don't care who and when made this one
It is like 4th or 5th generation copy, it has to be slowed down. I analized the song on multiple ways and it is 99% not scam. Snare was recorded with two microphones, one is out of phase. There is a few seconds of Abba deep in the song which means it was recorded on a pre recorded cassette.
