Colorado switching from black gear to blue was the best decision they ever made. When I see old clips they look like a house league team that just got socks and jerseys.
Colorado should use their burgundy pants and gloves for the away.
It's strange I think the Avs Away uniform with the blue pants/gloves is actually #1 -- it's such a nice uniform to me.

The Blue Jackets wore those blue pants two years ago with the reverse retro jerseys. Late in the season the players got the idea to wear the blue pants on the road. Management saw it and liked it.. The jackets had to wait an entire year to switch to the blue pants as they needed league approval to make the change permanent.

I LOVE the Kraken unis this year! The blues work so well together, and then they have that red pop that brings it all together

I'm a die hard Avs fan and when they first unveiled the new colors for the pants, gloves, and jersey numbers I hated it. But now, after watching them for an entire season and extended playoff run, I am uncomfortable watching them in anything else. Watching highlights from previous seasons with the black pants/gloves and it looks like they are wearing loaner equipment because their's got left at home. Plus the burgundy name on the back looks really nice against the white
Having the Avs at the bottom below Washington and Anaheim’s atrocious uniforms is a crime. 😂 So is putting the Wild that low, they have one of the best uniform sets ever. I like that the Avs moved away from black because it doesn’t really match with their other colors. The blue numbers on the back look great too, they should just maybe go with burgundy pants instead.

Also Neil when you mention the Canadians using an alternate white jersey, what cane to mind is their white alternate from the 90s where they had a blue stripe going from the logo around to the back like their home jersey and the shoulders were blue. It would look sweet!
Buffalo and Calgary definitely have the best overall set of jerseys in the league tbh, the whole package is so good
The thing I love about the panthers jersey specifically is that it’s the Florida flag but a stripe instead of a cross
As a sharks fan I have to extremely disagree.. The one thing the Sharks need to do is lose the orange. Teal, silver, white, black. That's all they need.

My #1 favorite road jersey/uniform is Buffalo!
I can see how some people don’t really like or even care for the Avs new blue pants, but I personally like them paired with their white away jersey. Coincidentally they won the Cup with the transition so I ain’t complaining lol 😂 to me I felt like their old black gloves & pants were out of place.
I’m with you, I think the move away from black was a great choice! And I like their road uniform too, though I’m an Avs fan so I’m biased. 😂 I know teams don’t really have two different colors of pants for home and away, but burgundy pants on the road is an option Colorado could consider. If not, keep rocking the blue!

I would love to see the Devils go back to the bottom stripes again like on the old jerseys. I still have their old white “home” jerseys from back in the day and they are incredible and look so much better.
Agree about Columbus looking way better with the blue pants. Avs being ranked last was an eye opener lol! I wasn’t ready. Seattle has sharp unis, the teal with the seagreen is just 👌🏻…. Having the Rangers up high, yes! The shoulders and ends of the sleeves are what do it for me.
Hey Neil another cool ranking you could do is top 10 overall seasons of jerseys. My number 1 is the 1997-98 season. The only teams that slacked a little that year were canucks, Sabres, and kings imo

I noticed that you like it when there is constant change in appearances when it comes to the younger teams in the league, but you also like it when the teams that founded the league keep their looks classic. Where do you draw the line, Neil?
It depends on their history. A team like Philadelphia is very classic in the sense that they really haven't changed up their branding too much since their inception into the NHL. However, the Capitals have changed their branding and even their primary colors, flip flopping all over the place in that same time period. Age of a team does not determine if they should change, but more so their typical branding life-cycle.

I never understood why Avs used black helmets, gloves and pants in the first place when everything else in the branding was blue and burgundy. The black seemed always out of place for me. It's only because over time people just got used to the black they got mad when the color scheme got finally corrected.
Haha yeah I agree with this, aesthetically speaking it was a good choice to ditch the black.
I am a firm believer that the color of the name and numbers should be the same, but I think the wild pull off the green and red font colors better than any team in sports. Love how the shoulders and stripes are mostly green and then the numbers being red stick out more

This is true, but some teams specifically always have off-colored pants regardless of year and time of season.
Both Flames Uniforms are easily Top 2 for me. They did everything right with them
I totally disagree with you on the Avalanche uniforms. I'm so glad they finally took black out of their color scheme and their uniforms look much sharper because of it. Their away uniforms look so much better with the blue in place of the black, especially the numbers on the jerseys. The worst road jersey, for me, is Carolina. Just the shortening of their name, CANES, coming down diagonally is not a good look. Also, Chicago may have one of the best home jerseys, but their road jerseys are weak. Definitely not #1. The top 5 best jerseys, for me are: Pittsburgh, Rangers, Montreal, Buffalo and Calgary. 👍🏼

If I were to go off the top of my head, I think the Jets and Redwings away jerseys are their best looking ones and I'd put them at the top two. Minnesota is the only team that I think the shoulder color thing works for, the Jets are the only team that the sleeve color they do works for. I'm a Hurricanes fan, I think the Hurricanes away jersey is nice, I just wish there was a different logo on it, like a white and red version of that stadium series jerseys logo they had would be great on their current away jersey

Whats the issue with the red pants for columbus when the canadiens have random blue pants. Same deal right? Just makes the uniform more interesting to me.
Because the blue that Columbus uses is very dark, so it does not contrast well with the bright red. Montreal uses a brighter shade of blue, so the contrast between the 2 is much more natural.
@@Post2PostProductions Hmm. I disagree. I think the Jets' home retro (beautiful jersey) and Rangers recent winter classic jersey prove it works fine. High contrast is nice.

That would be nice, but trouble is finding proper non-copyrighted images to use. Current images of alternate uniforms are a bit hard to come by. Would take hours and hours of sleuthing on the Twitter team accounts to find them all. Unfortunately not something I have time to do at the moment.

@Mike S I totally agree with u when the Hurricanes changed their away jersey and went with the wordmark CANES on the front they should of just put their logo of the Hurricanes right on the front.
Most Red Wings fans will agree with you that the away jersey is better. It’s one of those things where because it’s so classic and still looks good you don’t really need to change it. The home uniform is just so basic though so I definitely would like a refresh
It's definitely because I'm biased about it but the capitals because they're my favorite team they're home and away jersey is my favorite I didn't like the capitals jersey too much when reebok was still making their jerseys but when addidas started making the capitals jerseys I started to like their jerseys more and my second favorite home and away jerseys in the entire league are the Seattle kraken home and away jerseys
So you think that Washington should change their uniform because they've worn it for 12 years, but you think montreal should never change the uniforms that they've worn for decades? So should teams change things up regularly, or should they stay the same? I'm pretty sure the problem you see with the pants colours is more due to the material than the shade. The shade of most of them are accurate, but the sheen of the pants material catches the arena lights differently and makes it appear to be a different colour.

To your first point, correlation does not always equal causation. Just because I don't think Montreal should change their uniform doesn't mean the same opinion applies to a different team. Montreal is an original 6 team and hasn't changed their uniform in 50+ years essentially. It's iconic, just like the Red Rings. These older traditional teams not changing, that is part of their brand. Washington has been through at least 5 uniform changes since their inception into the NHL. Switching up their branding and look is a normal life-cycle process of their brand, and most professional sports teams.

Even as an Oilers fan, I COMPLETELY agree with Calgary being in the top 3. Where I DISAGREE is them only being #2. They have my favorite pair of home and away jerseys in the league, and I can't wait to see them paired up against Edmonton's classic jerseys next year. Neither team should *EVER* wear any other colors as their primaries. Alternates, sure, but Calgary's red and yellow vs Edmonton's royal blue and orange should NEVER go anywhere ever again.

I really dislike Pittsburgh and Calgarys jerseys 😂 Pittsburghs jerseys were wayyy better when they were baige and not yellow imo and Calgarys away is definitely better then their home but I don't like the McDonald Flames jerseys in general. Avs are now a top 3 for me and a lot of avs fans. the black was terrible, the only orher place on the uniform there was black was the puck, it didnt make sense. i do think that in order for it to be #1 the gloves and pants would need to be burgundy, then itd look great

I think it was such a "meh" uniform with the black pants. The light blue pants/gloves catapulted it to my favorite away jersey actually.
To be fair, the Canadiens blue on their pants is not the same as on their jersey or socks
It's not as egregiously different as some of the other teams so I didn't mention it. A couple of teams are in that same boat.

The only change I would make to the avs away is a blue helmet. That’s why it looks so unbalanced. Also the black looked 10 fold force than the blue
Following your standards, why is Montreal so high? The blue in their pants doesn't match the darker blue throughout the jersey and socks at all.

Frankly I can't truly put anyone last. Colorado is not last, pit Pittsburgh or Tampa last or Dallas.

I’ve always wondered that! Think it’s kinda cool that they’re all synced up that way, Pittsburgh has a consistent identity.
