Skiathos Airport Summer 2023 Crazy low landings + Powerful Jetblast Departures! Planespotting in 4K

- This video features the famous Skiathos airport. Which includes a high risk visual approach and landing over water and across a busy road at the threshold of the runway with aircraft coming just metres from your head on arrival to runway 01 and also with departures being breathtakingly close to spectators! The entire approach and runway is visible from this well know spot at the end of the runway.
This airport is commonly referred to as the European St Maarten. But having been to both I would suggest that no airport is like Skiathos in terms of how close you can get to the runway action. So in my eyes this airport is the ultimate location for low landings and Jetblast departures!
This year I didn’t manage to get to the spot on the hill like last year, so check out last years video if you want to see that perspective too, however there was a location just round from the threshold which I tried out which can be found a few times in this video
Filmed freehand using a 4K Sony AX53 video camera.
Videos were shot between June 14th-17th
Some days are a lot busier than others
Sadly I came a week or 2 too early this year as some airlines hadn’t started summer ops as of yet so I’d recommend coming at the end of June earliest for the best action!
And also as seen in the video I got some pretty adverse weather which adds another dimension of fun with some wet runway action and diverts
[Disclaimer] Nobody in this video was seriously injured during the JetBlast however it has been known to happen due to people underestimating the serious power and danger of jet engines, this is done at your own risk and can be enjoyed safely within limits.

When I flew out of Skiathos about 20 years ago we had to re-land shortly afterwards at Athens to refuel; we were told that, with the short runway at Skiathos, planes couldn’t take off with a full load of fuel…
Same here, we took off and made our way to Thessaloniki then onwards to Manchester fully fuelled ;)

This is actually a proof in what dumb society we live nowadays, just for a few seconds of filming yourself being cool putting your face into a jet blast...few years back my friend was hit by a stone at the same location right into his face. People should be more aware of the danger they put themself in. No clue why the police does not close the street and area when traffic departs...they do it in Corfu as well...although its not even that close to the jet blast

Excellent video! We've been there for 14 days, and we found ourselfes in some scenes in this video!! Excellent! And yes, we were the "lucky" ones too, who had to wait for 3 hrs, for the diverted AUSTRIAN 320 coming back from Athens on June 17th! Great holiday, great Airport and again: great video!! 😎👍
The red and white zebra-plane at 11:22 is so pretty and sweet. Such a lovely red nose as well. If I ever get a lot of money, I will buy a cheerful private jet like that.

Ich bin immer wieder froh, dass nichts passiert und die Piloten, die dort landen dürfen, es immer wieder schaffen. In den 90'er Jahren war ich sehr oft dort. Tatsächlich war einmal für eine Maschine von All Italia damals ( über die Xanemos- Seite anfliegend) die Landebahn nicht ganz ausreichend und sie mähte den damaligen Maschendrahtzaun nieder und stoppte mit dem Vorderrad gerade noch kurz vor dem Wasser, halb auf der Straße hängend. Gruselig.

When I was there from July 14-17 I did not see arkia, did they stop flying there?
I believe it was a one off so I was quite lucky. It came in from Kalamata which they do operate there every so often

Great video notice that skiathos airport doesnt have an ils approach and can't serve planes biger than a-321 or b-767 in the past all flights from neighbor counties like Israel Romania even Italy are deserved by non jet planes like atr72 or bombardier q400
