Thanks for the great reaction! The sober line is actually in reference to an amazing song she wrote called Sober. In that song, she says she “picked the weeds and kept the flowers” when it came to a relationship. From what I understand, she didn’t do that here and stayed in the relationship when she shouldn’t have. Now she only sees that regret. Recommend listening to that song, it’s one of her best
Every time I listen to those lyrics, I feel so overwhelmed by the emotion, the deepness, the honesty, the vulnerability. It's a true piece of art! And about Kelly's vocals...well, I don't need to say anything, cause we all agree how impressive they are!😮
This song is so special to me. I was verrrry freshly divorced when this came out and it was like hearing my deepest thoughts sung back to me. I got to see her in Vegas this summer and she sang Skip This Part, straight into Lighthouse. I was fully BAWLING only a few yards away from Kelly. The line that quite literally changed the course of my healing is "sometimes you fight and sometimes you walk away in order to survive." It somehow helped release this guilt I had about being the one to leave. You are correct about it being so raw and vulnerable. I'm grateful she had the courage to release this for people like me who hadnt been able to express, or even recognize, these emotions before.
The way I see it, the "I didn't choose sober" is referencing her own song "Sober", which is about her "sobering up" from the person she used to love after breaking up with them (most hard-core Kelly fans agree this is one of her best ones, you should totally check it out). By not choosing "Sober "she means she didn't choose the breaking-up and the getting over her ex. The whole album is full of self-references to older tracks about her ex husband, which she's doing to give those song new meaning
This is Kelly’s favorite song from the album. I believe that Kelly did all of the vocals on the album, if I’m not mistaken. I’m pretty sure I heard her say that in an interview. Such a great song! So very heartbreaking 💔 She said she wrote this album out of necessity & not knowing if she was even going to release it. She was going through so much with the divorce & writing was her release. She said this song was about the moment she knew she needed to walk away from the relationship.
She said "I didn't choose sober but my eyes can't look away", meant that she started to notice the truth and now its all she can see. She sees the wreckage. Yes'y'all played on this album and Jason produced a lot of her vocals
This song for me reminds me of a relationship I had with someone who is no longer on this plain of existence, because we were each other's lighthouse. We would check in to make sure either one was "okay". When I found out that this person had passed I was not and I couldn't call and speak to them or hear their voice anymore. Sorry to rant, but just wanted to let someone know that it's ok not to be ok!

Kelly said in an interview that this song was the hardest to write because it was so emotional and raw.
