    Great video showing what this can do. I have recently bought one of these and was disappointed how little functionality it had until I watched your video and saw how many more functions I can have for the purchased additional software and bought the add ons for my cars straight away. So good. These things should come either way s new car purchase.

    If you have only one brand of vehicle, then it is best to buy a scanner with the full software package for that brand of vehicle as most scanners may not read all oem enhanced systems. I purchased two Foxwell scan tools, one for Hyundai and one for PSA group vehicles and the scanners cover all oem enhanced codes and functions. Both tools also cover the obd2 functions.
    I could have purchased both software packages for the one scan tool, however the cost difference made more sense to have a second scanner.
    In my view this is more cost effective for people that have only two vehicle brands as you know that they cover everything with no on-going fees as the updates are free.

      Wouldn't buying two Foxwell tools still being more expensive, than the ~190€ for the Launch Tool + 2 brand activations?

    • @colinreid7305
      @colinreid7305 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TylerDurden-pk5km The first Foxwell software package is free, and you can purchase a second package and save some money over buying two scanners and still have free upgrades.
      However most electrical trades people have more than one multimeter and most automotive diagnostic people have more than one scanner. The reason for having more than one multimeter or scanner is to ensure that suspect reading can be confirmed. In the case of the scanner if it fails to connect or receive data do you blame the scanner, vehicle wiring or the vehicle modules hence the need for a second scanner and most scanners will read obd2 codes and systems just not enhanced vehicle codes.
      This is just my experience in the real world as a qualified electrical/ mechanical tradesperson.

      @@colinreid7305 I agree that as a professional you want two or more units - ideally not of the same type/brand.
      But I would also say, that this unit is clearly not for the professional. It is a downmarket product with the focus of as low as possible purchase price. And to no cannibalize sales of the more expensive units, they make it unattractive for the professional and attractive for the owner-maintainer.
      You only need the updates (for more than 1 year) ,at least in most cases, if you service many different cars of a brand - and then you are likely a professional :) Sure if the prices are the same - I take the one with the free updates - but if a look at the Foxwell scanners, the are more expensive than 190€ for the Autel - though not by that much.

      What's TPMS? The updates/options are a rip off. Should be free or at least cheaper. That some functionality/options can be artificially locked shouldn't even be a thing in the first place. Its just a/some configuration file/s.

      Tire Pressure Monitor System. Uses a transmitter built-in to each wheel stem. It transmits a signal to an antenna in the car which sends the signal to the computer. On some cars the stem gives you tire pressure on others it just gives you a warning light if your pressure is low. It's a pain in the XXX, because when the battery fails you have to replace the stem. Between the cost of the stem and the cost of the dealer charges to program the computer with the stems ID. It can be a couple hundred dollars for each tire.

    Upon "updating" my Launch 123E it caused the screen to freeze after appearing to start up normally. Now it is useless. There is no way to reboot it, like a pin hole that even cheap devices have. All I can advise is to avoid updating if you want to keep the basic functionality on this example of lousy design.

    A lot of these personalisation settings are just pointless gimmics. Why would you want the AC to come on every time you press the front windscreen demist button. It seems contradictory. You wouldn't need AC in winter but that is when you do need to demist the windscreen.
    That you have to buy updates EVERY YEAR for full functionality of each make of vehicle is a con. All it does is download a few small files. Updates should be permanent and free or at least cheaper. Not worth the cost.

    • @ray73864
      @ray73864 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Funny enough, the AC is a very good assister to window demisting.
      Change the mode from cool to heating, turn AC on, set vents to demisting.
      Plus, even during winter time you should still run your AC every once in a while to ensure the system is still well oiled.

    • @simontay4851
      @simontay4851 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      "Funny enough, the AC is a very good assister to window demisting" Really? I didn't know that. Seems odd. So is it running in reverse? I'd always assumed heating mode used waste heat from the engine or an electric heating element.

    • @TheDefpom
      @TheDefpom  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I do want the AC to come on when turning on the defrost, it clears fogging MUCH quicker, in mere seconds, especially useful when the car is cold and there is no heat yet. Also the more topical the climate the more likely you are to need AC year round, some countries probably would not really need it, but here, we do.

    • @TheDefpom
      @TheDefpom  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@simontay4851 AC dehumidifies the air, making it absorb moisture much more efficiently, which in turn makes it perfect for demisting a windscreen. Does your car have AC? if you do you should try it and you will see what we mean.

      Updates are never free for these units - which is understandable, since it is effort to implement the functions for new cars. On the other hand? How often does one buy a new car - and only if you buy a new one which is not already covered you need the updates.
      I have seen free updates for the read only units for single brands - but never for scanners with bidirectional functionality.
      Yes, if you are a mechanic, it is cheaper to pay for the expensive units and you only need one subscription to update all makes and models - these subscriptions are also more expensive of course.

      @@simontay4851 if you compare the cost of buying a fully featured unit with everything up front, this is a LOT cheaper, as you only pay for what you actually want.

    • @TylerDurden-pk5km
      @TylerDurden-pk5km 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In reality, really really cheap for the functionality. You can buy the unit for 110€ in Germany - shipped. Add the car brand you own (40USD if you are lucky) - that's 150€ for a full featured unit for one brand.
      And as long as you do not buy a new car (and how often do you do that) - you do not need the updates.
      Never seen the functionality so cheap. These units are usually 800€ upwards (for beginner units) + yearly subscription for the updates.
      Sure, if you are a mechanic that works on lots of brands, it may be cheaper to buy a version that supports all models - but to maintain you own car, that is much cheaper.
