I love that she’s so kind that she’s so kind she doesn’t want to ruin a story that’s been out since 1904. Like, that’s dedication to giving your viewers spoiler-free content.
Meanwhile, my friends ruined the ending of Lost for me. 😤

So many people say "cassics are overrated" but I don't think that's necesarily true, I think it just depends on everyone's taste. It's ok if you don't like a classic but that doen't mean is "overrated", it's just not for you.

I agree 100% with everything you said about Count of Monte Cristo. I'd just also like to add that although it is over 1000p, you never really get bored because there are so many sub stories that we get detours about. .. but they all come together in the end and create these genuine, emotional impacts on the characters and plot and ahhh this book was phenomenal. :)

It is great watching you get excited over these books!
And I have a similar case with the first classic I read (outside of school that is). The Picture of Dorian Gray is one of my favourite classics and I still love that book so much, even though I do also think some of the other ones I read were done better this still stands as one of my favourites, if not my absolute favourite classic. I don't think I can give a top six favourite list, but I have found some new favourites this year. Two of these are poetry collections, and one is a prose book and I don't believe these will then count as standalones but I am going to include them anyway. Also, this is in no particular order.
    - Ariel by Sylvia Plath
    - Tell Me the Truth About Love by A.H. Auden
    - Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds
    - The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow
    - The Deep by Rivers Solomon
    - Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandal

Honestly I am so hyped to try Rebecca. The only standalones I can remember reading are Time Cat when I was like 7 and Animal Farm when I was 13. Domestic thriller isn't normally something I'd think to grab since I usually stick to fantasy but your description of it always intrigues me and we seem to have similar tastes, so I have full confidence that I'll have a good time.
I'd also like to try Jane Austin at some point in my life, but for now I'm more interested to go back and reread Little Women (and the sequels that no one talks about) and Animal Farm to ease myself into classics.

The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and the Horse is on my top 5/6. I just read it this year and tried reading it out loud to my husband and kept choking up. I also love Backman's writing. I've only read A Man Called Ove so far but struggle to pick up another because his writing makes me so emotional sometimes. I've officially added Peter Pan to my TBR for this winter...I hope to love it. Also, adding Jurassic Park because of you.

I've got Rebecca in my TBR. I read Peter Pan quite late in my life (2-3 years ago) and I was surprised at how different from all the movie adaptations it was. I found it much darker than I had expected, and also - being a non English native speaker - a bit tough to understand at the beginning (it made me feel a bit dumb since it's a children's book 😅). Anyway here's my list:
    - The Neverending Story
    - Neverwhere
    - 1984
    - Amatka
    - La psichiatra by Wulf Dorn (it's a psychological thriller by a German author and I've read the Italian translation, so here's the title in Italian. Unfortunately, as far as I know there's no English translation yet, which is very surprising to me since it's quite a popular book)
    - Recursion

Agreed, Grapes of Wrath is AMAZING. One of my favorite books of all time! Perfect book for 2020. Haven’t read East of Eden yet but that’s on the short list for sure.
