I like that they made Andre nuanced. There were a lot of layers on why he didn't kill Roc. You see throughout his run on the show that he actually tries to keep his business quiet and running smooth. Can't do that shooting everyone that upsets you. He also seems to live by a code in terms of what he does for violence and when. When he talks to the kid in prison, he was disgusted that the kid used a drive by shooting like a coward, where he could have hit people not involved in his dispute, rather than walking right up to the person he had a problem with. He's not a senseless killer. And finally I think he saw Roc as an obstacle. But he also saw him as a guy just doing what he felt he needed to do, and was willing to stand up to someone like Andre to do it, while not resorting to trying to seriously hurt him. There was definitely respect there.
Andre respected Roc because he wished that he had the type of honor and pride that Roc had he stepped to him with no gun no people and didn't to take no money or territory. With all the power Andre has he don't like himself like Roc does
I think the biggest reason he didnt kill Roc had more to do with how respected he was in the community. He was everything andre was.
