    I have an old mercury (1982) 20hp and it still runs great! I have a much bigger tank because it uses a LOT of gas seeing as it's a 2 stroke. 9.9 is what I will be teasing my wife for in the near future as the 20hp seems like overkill on a 14 foot boat that I only use for fishing.
    All you need now is a kayak for fishing those hard to get to places. I love mine as much as my bass raider.
    Great video. Your boat looks great!

    I bought Suzuki 9.9 hp and there is 10 hour procedure to break the motor in and all online forums stated to follow it or else motor will not reach peak performance for rest of it's life. Do not over fill the oil even manual tell you you need 1 qt at oil change, Mercury had to start that motor for quality control and there are few ounces of motor oil in it. My motor was calculated to get 3 hours of wide open throttle from 3 gallons of gas but who needs wide open throttle for 3 hours straight. One of things that got my attention was fuel. My Suzuki can not do E15 fuel. Only up to E10 so please check your manual. Tell tale (pissing), you should make sure engine is doing that as soon as you start it. If you don't see it stop the engine immediately. 10 seconds of not happening can destroy the impeller. Don't forget the PLUG! Check the drain plug at the ramp few times and . Rate of 1 inch hole water movement is 750 gal per hour, that's 12.5 gal per min. My boat has luxury of plugging the hole from inside the boat, I think your boat does too. I have asked my wife tell me "Don't forget the PLUG!" at ramp and I appreciate it even when she tells for 3rd time. I have a state park with camping and they stop charging people after 5:00pm to get in. Call around your state park and see if you can do that too. Free ramp use and few hours of fishing before gets too dark. Best luck to you man. MasterOfNone out.

      All good info. This comment is timely. I just started the break in process yesterday. Did the first two hours. Eight more to go lol. All went well. The motor pissed and everything. As far as the biat plug goes I actually forgot to plug the boat on Monday and almost flooded the whole boat. Luckily we were still at the boat ramp when it happened. The bilge pump kicked on and pumped the water out. Thanks for the detailed comment.

      @@BassBrothersFishingDMV Installing hour meter is great. It gives you how many hours are on the engine and instant tachometer reading. I installed Hardline Products HR-8061-2 ordered from Amazon. Each parts you are putting on your boat counts in your max capacity weight. Your motor , gas and battery counts in that too. My boat has 6 person capacity and I only put 4 persons including me(about 190lbs per person). US coast guard person weight is at around 140lbs a person and that's still standard.. I think. Mine is 6 person capacity at 850lbs. Max capacity at 1250lbs. So let's say 800lbs for 4 of us. Take that away it from max capacity leaves me with 450lbs. My motor, gas and starting battery is at 185lbs. Take that away and leaves me with 265lbs. Cooler with ice and some drink, snack, fishing gear, and +tiny anchor.. Another 100lbs is my guess. That leaves me with 165lbs. So another person will put my boat over loaded. By adding all these parts, you may have made 5 person boat to 3 persons depending on each person weight.Just saying, I looked up all the info online about weight capacity and this is what I gathered. Please stay safe. Can't wait to see you on water with that motor! I'm excited.

    So what is your total build price so far? I'm trying to determine if I should build one or just buy a bass tracker classic at around 12k turn key ready.

    • @BassBrothersFishingDMV
      @BassBrothersFishingDMV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly I don't know yet. I plan to tally it all up when i'm done. But buying a $10K or $12K turn key ready boat is another good option. Its all depends what you want in your boat. I'm doing a pretty extensive build so my cost is higher than someone else who may chose to keep things simple and easy. For my build I think I'll land around $8K or $9K if I had to guess. Of course that includes brand new boat, trailer, trolling motor, outboard motor and a Helix 9 Gen3 fish finder plus build materials. So you really have to take some time to price it all out to see what makes the most sense for you. Of course nothing beats the satisfaction of building your own setup. Good luck. Let me know which way you decide to go. Tight lines.
