To be honest if you’re usually bigger than your opponent, I would suggest Muay Thai and learn the clinch, if you can become excellent at the clinch, your opponents will be in for a rough time, but kickboxing is also pretty good
@@Nelkz39CFC I mean the taller person would have more leverage seeing as they would be pulling down on you, also if you’re taller usually that means you’ll be also heavier and that would sometimes make it harder to knock a bigger person down. As I said on other comments, it's really hard to say what style is better. You mentioned the clinch, which I liked. A lot of American gyms don't work the clinch very often.
In terms of actually being helpful in streets or self defense, I'd give Muay Thai and kickboxing a B tier. It's all technical and gives you an edge for doing well with your techniques. Both martial arts trains you to be great fighters in the ring. But outside of it, there would be a big disconnect. I would put Muay Thai a step higher than kickboxing. MUAY THAI 😁
My vote goes for Muay Thai. Due to similar fundamentals in both forms, it may go the other way around too
My favorite is Muay Thai but kickboxing is cool too ❤
Looking at the kickboxing stuff, Mauy Thai has all that except for the Variety of kicks and that may just be a teacher thing.
You can use many kicks in Muay Thai, but the thing is that, you SHOULDN'T use many of them most of the time. Most of the time, teep and rounhouse kick are the most effective
Kick boxing is about the fundamentals of combos lol. I wouldn't say it's a variety of kicks
I love it how Thaiboxing it still counts as strikepoints even if your kicks get blocked
Growing up I thought arts like kung fu, taekwondo, and pencak silat were the ones to learn. After taking Muay Thai for a year, I wish I learned it much earlier
this video made me decide to start muay thai. Been 1 year in this journey and best choice i ever made
Kickboxing uses elbows and knees aswell
From when.? Only maybe in glory kickboxing but still elbow is prohibited
@@saraths6842 in my old kickboxing we where trained to elbow but not knee
@@tomvanderveldo_2047that was prob so that If you would want to compete in muay thai rules
Muay Thai and kickboxing is basically the same thing but Muay Thai adds some other stuff to make it even more tough
Kickboxing 🥇
It doesn't depend on the martial art it depends on the martial artist -

I prefer Dutch Kickboxing
I am a kickboxer and i usually combine my styles like karate with muay thai
Muay Thai is a tank and kickboxing is a military vehicle
I,am coming from muay thai but power kicks are also in kickboxing i thnk thai boxers have advantage plus muay thai boxers are great strikers
Muay Thai é a melhor arte marcial de todas! ❤️😍🇹🇭
Далеко не лучшее. Его изучают убийцы и киллеры, поверь, БИ - созданы для защиты, а иногда и для зрелищности, НО НЕ ДЛЯ УБИЙСТВА СВОЕГО ВРАГА, как тайский бокс
not me combining all the best parts of each martial art into one
Kickboxing seems to be faster but Muay Thai seems to hit harder.
How many fighting styles do you master?
Him: Yes.
He's mastered none and taken barely any
Kickboxing has power kicks
I already do Muay Thai and absolutely think it would defeat kickboxers
No
Mi maestro de Kick Boxing nos hace entrenar técnicas de Muay Thai junto con las de kick Boxing, lo admiro.
Man this song really fits to the vid lolol
As a Muay Thai amateur I always wondered what was the big difference with kickboxing but never bothered to watch until now. It's so interesting to see when they seem like essentially the same thing at first. I'm proud I chose the style I did. Nice videos by the way.
Muay thai is more leg focused, kickboxing is more arm focused. Muay thai focuses a strong defense and demolishing kicks, kickboxing focuses heavy combos, good head movement and offense over defense. They're 2 very complete striking arts.
@@oblivion9202 thaks for your comment, very learning
JUST KICKBOXING COPIED MUAY THAI STYLE

@@oblivion9202Then why do muai fighters eat hits ?
Both. Train both styles. They both have a lot to offer
Muay Thai is better for self defence.
But both are effective
Avarage boxer everyone
one leg kick puts your statement to rest
Why
@@AbdulazizACE Boxers arent trained to defend leg kicks. You could effectively win most fights based on keeping your range & throwing low kicks
@@tman4life01And Thai fighters dont have great head movement
@@iGadgetzz head movement isn’t going to protect you from having a dead leg
I’ll personally take kickboxing, with my height and size , I wanna be super volume puncher but be able to use my legs as well
To be honest if you’re usually bigger than your opponent, I would suggest Muay Thai and learn the clinch, if you can become excellent at the clinch, your opponents will be in for a rough time, but kickboxing is also pretty good
@@redheadslush5270 if your taller you shouldn’t be in a clinch tho?
@@Nelkz39CFC I mean the taller person would have more leverage seeing as they would be pulling down on you, also if you’re taller usually that means you’ll be also heavier and that would sometimes make it harder to knock a bigger person down. The taller people would also have the advantage where it would be easier to knee your opponent higher up on their body.
Although if you’re shorter and have a lot more skill compared to your taller opponent then you should easily win, but if you’re at the same skill level as your opponent, the taller fighter has the advantage
@@redheadslush5270 yh but the shorter person would usually want to penetrate your range and put them selves in a more comfortable position
@@Nelkz39CFC that… is a good point. I guess being shorter comes with good advantages, but bigger size comes with advantages too which would give a smaller opponent a tough time
Muay Thai is one of the best martial arts, also Karate and BJJ are very cool
Kickboxing is really cool and practical to learn if you're fast, agile and small but for bigger and meatier guys we might have to rely on Muay Thai simply because we'll have a better chance of defending and delivering devastating kicks
Everything alright but neither Kickboxers nor Thais are known for their defense, I'd even say most of them suck at defense (there are exceptions like Saenchai, a master mind).
I would love to learn Muay Thai but I don't have a clue where to start. I live in Los Angeles and I'm sure there are gyms all over but I'm broke. Hopefully I can get my finances straight cause learning Muay Thai is a must.
You can search tutor video on youtube and practice, you may do it wrong but if you keep learning and practice you will have correct form
Go offer to work for the instructors for free in exchange of doing a class. No trainer will refuse that. I do Muay Thai and the trainers/senior guys are some of the most humble helpful people I’ve ever met. They will
Gladly help you, if you are willing. Gd luck
@@jaseperi I second this. 3 years of muay thai under my belt but couldnt afford the classes anymore. head coach let me take over 3 of the kids classes a week to train for free
Muay Thai + Karate = Kickboxing
Or boxe+taekwondo
Kyokushin + Muay thai + Western boxing = Kickboxing
Yeah, so kickboxing should be more powerfull
No, Kyokushin and Muay Thai made original Kickboxing (Japanese). Then the Dutch went to Japan and learned Japanese Kickboxing, took it back to their country and slowly incorporated Western Boxing Techniques, making Dutch Kickboxing.
I have been doing muay thai for about halve of my life
I'm 13 btw
nice ❤️
Kickboxing better keep up their guard. One opening and fights over.
Muay Thai 🔥😍
Thanks, i will try this at the playground should be easy to knock them out 😎
Guess the name makes sense
Muay Thai all day everyday. And if I was a professional fighter I would study this as well as Brazilian style jiu-jitsu. These two things will make you the best well-rounded fighter
*Lethwei and Catch Wrestling (CACC)
Every martial art has their kryptonite.
@@arianlatifi5492 eh lethwei isn't very technical. It's more like go in the ring and go ape shit vs muay thai were they're technical and playful, playing smart.
Muay thai is gonna have to take the vote here.
As for catch wrestling and jiu jitsu I'm not sure. Not really informed on catch wrestling than jiu jitsu but there must be a reason jiu-jitsu is mma favorite/norm than catch wrestling haha.
@@IlyuuJrry34 Here's a little insight. th-cam.com/video/l4KZuxy6az0/w-d-xo.html
@@IlyuuJrry34 Lethwei is essentially ancient muay-boran. But I agree modern MT is more technical.
Muay Thai also has clinching, making their arsenal that much wider. However as a punching enthusiast I have to go with kickboxing because in Muay Thai punching is frowned upon as it is worth hardly any points
As I said on other comments, it's really hard to say what style is better. You mentioned the clinch, which I liked. A lot of American gyms don't work the clinch very often.
Kickboxing is powerful martial art from Japan and it’s great for self defense and discipline
Agreed
Which one can give me a better chance to survive being jumped by 3 dudes or just which one is better for street fights
Muay Thai is pretty fucking scary tbh. Even in that situation. One hard ass low kick, knee, or elbow and it's quickly 2v1 or 1v1
Only because it's just kickboxing but it hits harder if I were to summarize how they fight.
No martial art is better than running in a street fight, don't die stupidly
None will help you in a gang fight.
As for street fighting, both will get you the KO you've been dreaming for.

I think kickboxers generally have a stronger regular defense (guard) due to the fact that they cannot rely on the clinch. The clinch is probably the biggest difference between the two styles so its a bit weird you didnt mention that part in the video
Also Muay Thai: great clinching
