You're overcomplicating the solution. Basically, it involves squeezing the string together between the vertical portion of the maze and one side of the ring itself which frees the string without any of the balls being involved.
@@musicoldies83 you have correctly stated the solution....but I was trying to show how you could reach this realization through logic and deduction. It is a good way to tackle any puzzle...I think so anyway!

Walk away. 2) If there is some sort if unspoken value or necessity to removing these two things, pull one ball til the rope is taut. Continue pulling and it would probably rip the fragile wood center out in a satisfying way that would render the puzzle obsolete. that's what the research said about Brain training type games. Playing them doesn't de-age your brain or make you smarter. It just makes you better at solving the same kind of puzzles. So the games that advertised themselves as making you smarter or lowering the age of your brain (in the beginning it will tell you your brain is 60 years old as a 20 year old which is BS) proved to be false advertising and bunk.
..Could have figured that one out in five seconds. Maybe a tad more than that, but yeah.. not super complicated. That said, other people have pointed out that solving similar puzzles makes it easier to solve puzzles like this and I solved a couple of those at a museum. There were more difficult ones, too.

I was good at intelligence tests but topology was never my thing. I never enjoyed this kind of puzzles, but like to see others solve them. Thank you for the explanation
Ironically, when i was 13, i tested at Yale to figure out my IQ. At the time they still had 3 IQ testing methods. One that is no longer used and the other 2 they still do use. The reason why the 3rd method is not used any more, is because it is what is now used to effectively measure for interspecies IQ, meaning they could use it to even test past the limits of what is considered "human" intellect. The highest end of what is called "human" intellect is, in the two methods still used, is the same in both methods. About 250 to 270. On the other, 3rd method, it caps at 3000. But the limit of biological capacity for intellect is only around 1200 on this scale. I scored a 562 on that scale, somehow. I was also involved in brain tests afterward that they used as reference in developing Neuralink.
What i didn't know when i took this series of tests is that i genuinely tested at nearly double what is considered human intellect. It makes some sense, but not fully to me. While i had a college year 2 level of trading and writing comprehension at 8 years old, and still have an eidetic memory even now. Maintaining an eidetic memory after childhood is exceedingly rare. Possible, but rare to the point of being one in billions. Not only that, but i remember being barely 5 months old. This kind of puzzle is not hard at all if all they require your solution to be is unique for the problem. I could figure for four in the first few seconds of watching this video. Not even 1 second in, i knew it was a dumb thing of some clickbaiting variety. This kind of garbage actually gets me angry when people post it, show the solution, and say "oooooohhh i figured it out" as if nobody told them how before they post the video. If they really figured it out their selves, why not show how you figured it out. This kind of post, and the people who post it, are a complete joke.
I have a masters in mathematics and I’m usually very logical when it comes to solutions, but these type of puzzles always get to me. I think maybe it takes someone more balanced in their thinking. Not just all left brain or right brain.
I am a ropemaker, knot tyer, string expert in very many other ways. Yet I find this solution difficult to comprehend, let alone solve myself. (Wouldn't ever occur to me to break the wood...)
These types of puzzles test someone's ability to try various solutions to the puzzle without pre-judging which might work. Most software engineers I know (including myself) don't have many issues with these types of puzzle specifically because this is normally how we work. Don't get stuck on the obvious.. look for what works. Most folks get stuck on a seemingly obvious solution (or 2) and try to make that work, rather than looking for all possible solutions to see which works.
Alternative move: break it, install a camera in it, sell in on ebay, and watch the immense happiness in the buyer's eyes as they realize they already figured out the puzzle.

@@JustMeUpNorth lots of IQ tests are different and they test many different variables and ways of processing information, some people are more visual, others are more hands on/practical etc. I score roughly the same on most IQ tests, but score terribly on any other type of tests, like written exams or educational testing. Always free the balls lol!
You're overcomplicating the solution. Basically, it involves squeezing the string together between the vertical portion of the maze and one side of the ring itself which frees the string without any of the balls being involved.

I mean thats one way to do it. As an "intelligence," I've found 3 more!
1) Ask yourself why you want to seperate these two things. Realize you don't really care. Walk away.
2) If there is some sort if unspoken value or necessity to removing these two things, pull one ball til the rope is taut. Continue pulling and it would probably rip the fragile wood center out in a satisfying way that would render the puzzle obsolete. Solving it forever!
3) Three is similar to 2 but it involves a hammer...

What @@gmork1090
Actual out of the box thinking would be to untie the knots at the ends of the beads :3
Yes
my first thought :)
I was thinking that if you treated the puzzle like a spring, you could easily pull the string out - assuming the material was flexible.
Yeah, I thought of that and scissors. There were no declared rules. Through the reuquired solution, you are being trained to think one way.
Or push the puzzle beyond its flat dimension, like a spring, just enough without breaking the wood, and work the balls through the created gap.
These, in fact, do nothing for thinking outside the box. They help you recognize how to solve similar puzzles to this one. Doing these kinds of puzzles every day or even regularly will not help you solve real-world problems that require outside the box thinking. And you don't need quick thinking
These are simple to solve. Just fast forward to the end of these types of videos. Bam!

@@TW-hb2cr Actually, I was thinking more along the lines getting a bigger hammer.
Well aren't you Mister Smarty Pants!
that's what the research said about Brain training type games.

These types of puzzles test someone's ability to try various solutions to the puzzle without pre-judging which might work. Most software engineers I know (including myself) don't have many issues with these types of puzzle specifically because this is normally how we work.
